The koi's golden scales looks like golden shiny dragon scale. If you had read about the shiny scale fish children book, yeah that fish remind me of that children book.

I used to have a Gin rin Chagoi just like that one, it was undoubtedly my favourite fish in the pond, sadly I lost it to a predator along with several others one night, I now have another but she lacks the abundance of gin rin the other had. Truly a beautiful fish no matter whether you like Chagoi or not.

Butterfly koi are not considered true koi, as they are created by breeding koi with another type of carp to get the long fins. They are also considered more hardy because of the carp they are cross breeding them with. However because they are not pure breed koi you will not find them in most shows

I feel you I have the same type of stock. In the end all fish need a good home regardless of their pedigree or price. My $5 investment ogons are stunners. Had them for years now they are monsters. You do not always get more bang for your buck.
