Scarecrow actually has the potential to become worse than Joker. He and Batman both use fear as a weapon, but they both use it on opposite ends of the moral spectrum. If Scarecrow's gas would be any stronger, it would have a physical effect on the body like Joker's Laughing Gas. Except instead of a crooked grin, the body would literally turn pale, the hair on the body would grow out and turn white, the vocal cords would turn to shreds from the screaming and leave the corpse in a mid-scream position. It would pretty much be called Screaming Gas. Not to mention, the advantage Scarecrow has over the Joker is that while Joker uses doubts as tools of manipulation, Scarecrow sees doubt as a way to manifest fears in the fearless, making even the bravest crumble in fright. Scarecrow has potential to become one of the most powerful villains in comic book history if they give him a chance.
"I used to fear the Batman." "You still should." "Nobody's afraid of Bruce Wayne." That's how you make a character good, he preyed perfectly on Batman's weaknesses.
Superman revealed Batman's identity as Bruce Wayne. Nobody fears him anymore because the One Earth Regime basically made him a hobo for the better part of the Injustice story.
"And what happens to kindling?" It burns out. That's an interesting take on rage vs fear. Although I think you ended up calling yourself a mad dog, Atrocitus.
Scarecrow has so many unique conversations. He only has like three or four reused lines, and even those have unique lines from the other character. So much better than someone like Darkseid.
"Phobophobia:" "The fear of all fears." "Our greatest achievement!" Even when he's literally talking to himself, Scarecrow is always amazing and (for me, at least) takes 2nd or 3rd place on a list of the most badass fictional characters of all time, right behind Doom Guy and Heath Ledger's Joker.
I love how Robert Englund brings his own comedic and witty charm to Scarecrow. It just makes me love him even more Edit: Holy shit, thanks for the likes
Gotta hand it to Arkham Knight; that game really elevated Scarecrow up in the Batman villain gallery. Otherwise I don't think we would be seen him here!
RandoGrunt it honestly did, People who felt like Scarecrow was pathetic and a waste of space found a new respect for him, hell even marvel fans gave a kudos to him.
No, he has always been great. He had some of the best episodes of TAS, he rocked in Arkam Asylum and in the comics, he is considered a Joker-level threat on Gotham.
Here's an intro perfect for him and Joker Joker: I like your style, think of all the pranks we could pull off Scarecrow: Fear is meant to control, not create anarchy. Joker: Stealing jokes is part of the job, you know?
@@murderofcrows5089I've always thought that but I guess they don't want others heroes villains intermingling with each other. But Scarecrow was epic during The blackest night wearing a yellow ring fighting black lanterns while yelling at the top of his lungs "give me your fear"
Scarecrow: Do you remember them? Scorpion: Who? Scarecrow: The family you failed to save! Scarecrow: Ah, Sub-Zero! Sub-Zero: I won't lose, Scarecrow. Scarecrow: Like you lost your brother? Scarecrow: Such a lovely wife... Johnny Cage: You stay the hell away from her! Scarecrow: You lost her once, what's one more time?
I can just image his fatalities. They would be these gruesome horrifying fatalities and then it pans out to the seemingly unhurt but dead combatant with his face frozen in terror with Scarecrow in the background.
Imagine if him and mysterio met, the amount of psychological harm they could cause would be destructive, they could break even the most strong minded people break.
Scarecrow was the highlight of Arkham Asylum because that's the best time he was like this. Scary...clever...and knowing just what to say to make his victims shiver. This jokes against Captain Cold's sister hit pretty close, I'm sure.
I love the mirror match lines. They both just accept each other's existences and are enjoying the unique circumstance. Also, as someone who had to take some psychology classes in college, I got a chuckle out of the id versus ego line. Leave it to Scarecrow to enjoy a good bit of self experimentation.
@@gabegrether8647 yes 100% of sure here is the explanation. The ID is the impulsive (and unconscious) part of our psyche which responds directly and immediately to basic urges, needs, and desires. ... The id operates on the pleasure principle (Freud, 1920) which is the idea that every wishful impulse should be satisfied immediately, regardless of the consequences. The ego deals with reality, trying to meet the desires of the id in a way that is socially acceptable in the world. This may mean delaying gratification and helping to get rid of the tension the id feels if a desire is not met right away. The ego recognizes that other people have needs and wants too, and being selfish isn't good in the long run. I’ve studied that for a science assignment once.
@@Masters123lfm Wow. Thanks for the psychology lesson. After I read this, I felt the urge to rp as Scarecrow, but then realised that it wouldn't be... Effective.
John Nobel from Arkham Knight, Jeffry Combs from TAS S4, and Robert England from Injustice 2 are my favorites! All of them really nailed the different aspects of the Scarecrow
So… Superman would see Lois Batman might see Flashpoint Batman Wonder Woman would see Zeus Mr Freeze would see Nora Black canary would see her world’s Green arrow and Green arrow would see his world’s Black canary
Mad, MAD props to not only Robert Englund, but the writers as well; Scarecrow may be one-note in his dialogue, but he remains the most menacing character thanks to that very same dialogue, even more than The Joker. Even without the last word, the emphasis on mind-games - realistic given the character - makes every sentence absolutely chilling, giving him a feeling of dominance over every character, save for The Joker, of course.
Imagine Iron Man with him *Scarecrow:* You have an artificial heart? *Iron Man:* The Arc Reactor is not for sale. *Scarecrow:* Who said I was paying for it? *Scarecrow:* You have an artificial heart? *Iron Man:* It keeps me alive, scarecrow. *Scarecrow:* Allow me to shut down your other organs, too. *Scarecrow:* Would Howard be proud of you, Tony? *Iron Man:* Speak NOTHING of my dad, asshole. *Scarecrow:* Allow me to elaborate. *Scarecrow:* I sense mental disruption. *Iron Man:* What would that be, scarecrow? *Scarecrow:* PTSD. *Scarecrow:* You are rank with fear, Tony. *Iron Man:* I cry for nobody. *Scarecrow:* What about Peter Parker's head on your doorstep? *Scarecrow:* She is _my_ experiment, Tony. *Iron Man:* Leave Pepper ALONE. *Scarecrow:* I was referring... to Morgan. *Scarecrow:* I too, am a hacker Iron Man. *Iron Man:* What do _you_ know about hacking? *Scarecrow:* The harder the swing, the deeper the laceration. Scarecrow: "What scares an Amazon?" WW: "You won't frighten Zeus's daughter." SC: "Sounds like Daddy issues." Scarecrow, are you *trying* to get yourself killed?
Not the lines I would've gone for personally. I think: Scarecrow: The human race is both powerful and inquisitive. WW: I will fight for their safety from you! Scarecrow: Even if Man's law reaches Themyscira? WW: I've defeated Hades; I can surely defeat you. Scarecrow: And you don't wield him through your sword? WW: My sword and will are my own!
i really love scarecrow's intro vs him, he seems to injoy the idea and indulges in a batle with hes own fear hallucination of hes self, hes hes own best nightmare come true also thats fuck hallarious that super girl brought up black mercy!
I'm amazed how much Scarecrow knows about everyone. He sure did his homework. Yet it seems no one knows who he is, not even Batman. "Who is it under the mask?"
No, they know but often times it's depicted that Jonathan has an identity crisis with Scarecrow so the question from Batman is more: "Who is in control at the moment?" Everyone else just refers to him by his Rogue name because that's how the superheroes and super-villains talk to other heroes' villains.
That and in the injustice universe joker killed scarecrow, its even referenced in a few of these match ups. We don't know if crane some how came back from death or if its someone else entirely, which is all the more frightening.
I was under the impression that the whole match is an illusion, and that they're just imagining scarecrow saying these personal things. Scarecrow himself doesn't actually knows their secrets.
Considering every fight actually happens with Scarecrow in his monstrous form, this basically confirms his toxins work on basically every creature in the universe - from alien creatures like Atrocitus to magic beings like Doctor Fate to actual gods like Darkseid.
18:15 *Scarecrow*: Now, *I*'m hallucinating. *Green Arrow*: Call me the Ghost of Arrow Past. *Scarecrow*: I fear no ghost. Double reference, the true ones wil recognized.
Scarecrow has always been one of my favorite villains. Not really for what he was but the potential he had. I feel like that potential has been shining with his appearances in this and the Arkham series.
Imagine him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Crane: "Your 'teammates' will never respect you, Mr. Quill." Starlord: "You don't know anything!" Crane: "I know that a man who runs from his dying mother in fear doesn't deserve respect. And I think you know that, too." Crane: "What fears are you hiding with all those tricks?" Loki: "One must outwit, rather than challenge, a stronger opponent, human. Come. Let me show you." Crane: "Play warrior and threaten me all you want, you'll never be more than a trophy to Odin, Laufeyson." Black Widow: "Oh no, Scarecrow! P-please, don't hurt me!" Crane: "You can take off the mask. I know you're not afraid of me. I wonder if your children would be, though." Crane: "You think you can save Barnes from the Winter Soldier?" Cap: "Bucky wouldn't give up on me. I won't give up on him!" Crane: "Am I speaking to the boy afraid to let go of the past, or the living weapon fearing his own loss of humanity?"
Spider-man: woah now that's a Halloween costume Scarecrow: is it scarier than your aunt's death Spider-man: I'm putting some dirt in your eye Doctor octopus: interesting your fear toxins would work nicely with my next project Scarecrow: will it work nicely for that arachnophobia Doctor Octopus: bold of you to try to use it against me Green Goblin: why I'm something of a mad man myself! Joker: mad enough to take on Batman? Green Goblin: the IRS bane: which venom is stronger Venom (Eddie brock): the Symbiote of course Bane: I'd like to break you in half Chico perra Last one and my favorite Daredevil: I'm Daredevil the man without fear Scarecrow: even devils fear God Daredevil: not even God could stop me, what makes you think you could?
Actually fun fact about Blue Beetle's Spanish line at 7:00-7:02 In non-English versions of Batman, they sometimes localize the names which includes the famous name changes in Latin America (Joker became Guason, Catwoman is Gatubela, etc.) so El Espantapájaros is his actual name in Spanish. And a bonus fun fact is that espantapájaros/"scarecrow" can also be used as a word for the boogeyman in some Spanish-speaking countries (ties back to historical roots of the word in the first place) something that I think would please the good doctor. Update: OLD AS HELL comment but I have since been informed that I was half-right on the last point. “Espantajo” is used to mean boogeyman but more in the sense of…well a straw man rather the actual mythological sense. I guess it doesn’t matter that much since it conveys paranoia/fear either way and I mean impressive no one corrected me in all those *three years*, just wanted to be transparent did the record because I was starting out with my Spanish when I first wrote that comment so my bad on that overly literal translation (…or not literally enough in this case?)

Scarecrow: All your rage is for nothing Atrocitus: Vengeance is everything Scarecrow: But your family is lost forever Damn Scarecrow that's just savage
Throughout their dialogue, not once Batman calls him Crane, the first dialogue was him asking who's under the mask. Leading me to believe he's another Scarecrow, since Crane is or at least should be dead.
It's Crane alright. The question was more rhetorical, asking who Jonathan truly believed he was currently and of course Scarecrow is the only thing that remains once the toxin is released. In the comics, Crane sometimes had an identity crisis between him and the Scarecrow itself so the question could also be referring to those past events.
It's batman respecting his psychosis He usually calls the villians by their first name like Harvey (Dent when he's two-face) , Harleen, Ivy, Selina, Crane (when hes unmasked), and Edward (riddler)
Fun fact: Scarecrows voice actor here is Robert Englund, the same guy who played Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm street.

That’s honestly terrifying to think about.
Honestly, we don't have a character defining comic for scarecrow despite having so much potential. He only ever shined in other media

I love the mirror match lines. They both just accept each other's existences and are enjoying the unique circumstance. Also, as someone who had to take some psychology classes in college, I got a chuckle out of the id versus ego line. Leave it to Scarecrow to enjoy a good bit of self experimentation.
But what's the difference between the two? Just try not to make me feel stupid for asking.
@@gabegrether8647 one is impulsive desires to act:,ID and the one that control the impulses Is the Ego.
@@Masters123lfm Intriguing... And thanks for enlightening me on such. But are you sure you got it right?

Mad, MAD props to not only Robert Englund, but the writers as well; Scarecrow may be one-note in his dialogue, but he remains the most menacing character thanks to that very same dialogue, even more than The Joker.

Actually fun fact about Blue Beetle's Spanish line at 7:00-7:02
In non-English versions of Batman, they sometimes localize the names which includes the famous name changes in Latin America (Joker became Guason, Catwoman is Gatubela, etc.) so El Espantapájaros is his actual name in Spanish.
