    I prefer a firmer aperture ring because I will accidentally move the aperture for my other manual lens with declicked rings.

    Just received a Wechat push notification from Kamlan's official public account. Apparently, the lens is going on Kickstarter on June 4, 2019 at 22:00 Beijing Time (14:00 GMT.) That's slightly over 7 and a half hours from now. THE HYPE IS REAL!

    If they keep the price below 200€ it is going to be a great lens. I recently bought the first version of Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 for 110€ and I am very satisfied. Some in body digital correction of contrast, saturation and sharpness are needed but the shallow depth of field is great and the only reason I bought this lens.
    I can't wait for the main review of the new Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 II.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      I love this one compared to the first, which I really didn't like.

  • @Shadow81989
    @Shadow81989 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would be nice to have something like that at a decent price for full frame (one may still dream, right?), but I guess on APS-C or smaller it could be a wonderful portrait lens, with the FOV and DOF being about comparable to the much used 85mm/f1.8 standard.
    I support the entire list of wishes for improvement, as far as the "automation" of the lens goes, that you mentioned, and we'll see about the optical quality in more detail very soon, I guess.
    Did I understand it correctly though, that it is (or will be) available neither for Canon EF-S nor for Nikon F mount?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's correct. It is only for APS_C mirrorless cameras, so the only Canon/Nikon mount will be Canon's EF-M mount.

    • @Shadow81989
      @Shadow81989 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the clarification! That's a pity, as I can't use it on my current bodies (both Nikon) then. Also as far as I can tell, all of their lenses have been like that until now, but they seem to be quite new in the field and might expand to other mounts at some point. Time will tell!

    Dustin thank you so much for your excellent reviews. I am building a Fuji X kit for video interviews, interviewee seated, indoors, using tripod or slider. Very interested in a clickless so I can do aperture racking and maybe a little focus pulling. So sharpish at centre is good, soft at edges is fine, modish is good. Super sharp all over is not needed. You have reviewed many manual lenses - Brightin, Pergear, etc is there one you consider more suitable for my application? Many thanks for your insights or suggestions. Thanks Vincent

      If you'll look at the image gallery you can see photos of the lens. bit.ly/kam1150IIig It actually says 50mm F1.1 II on it right before the aperture ring. It's also a lot squatter looking than the original, which is slimmer.

    In the IQ breakdown, are you going to compare it to any other lens?
    Maybe the Samyang 50mm f1.2 might be a very interesting comparison. Both of those lenses are sought after for videoshooting on aps-c cameras.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have the Samyang on hand, and so I more focus on the performance of the lens itself along with a few comparisons to the amazing Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN lens.

    @Griffin_Sniped_U 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    How bad does it vignette on full frame?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll never quite understand the obsession with putting APS-C lenses on full frame sensors. It does not cover a full frame image circle. On my a7R3 I need to crop in approximately a 1.2x crop factor, so it would cover APS-H.

    • @Griffin_Sniped_U

      Not an obsession. Just a curiosity 😎

    • @IguanaFilmArts
      @IguanaFilmArts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DustinAbbottTWI I think it has to do for video work on f.e. an A7III, where you can crop with a custom button without losing much quality. If it covers a full frame sensor nicely you can zoom more and so use multiple focal lengths in one lens.

  • @tomhsia4354
    @tomhsia4354 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    HOLY SHI*T IT'S HERE!
    AND WHY AM I USING ALL CAPS?
    Btw, Kamlan FINALLY fixed their website, it now looks excellent and has good English translations! Finally, I don't need my crazy Soviet projector lens for ultra wide-aperture, that lens is kind of like the og Kamlan 50mm, except it is stuck at f1.2, has lots of barrel distortion, field curvature and lateral CAs... and it's much sharper than the og 50mm at any aperture in the centre of the frame... (Hopefully the mk2 beats that)
    Another thing: It seems MaChang Optics, the company that created Kamlan, changed their profile picture on Kickstarter to the 50mm f1.1 mk2. The hype is real!

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmmm, not quite sure where you are getting that other than the fact they are both 50mm F1.1 lenses. The Kamlan is actually more optically complex, heavier, different dimensions and filter size, and focuses down considerably closer. They are very different lenses.

    I take it that this is a manual, Chinese made lens. Probably not in the same league as a Voigtlander as an example. So cost is the driving factor?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should come in at around $200 or slightly under, so yes, it will be very competitively priced. Optically it is surprisingly good, actually.

  • @khuo0219
    @khuo0219 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am surprised that they can keep the price so low. I have the MK I and I used it occasionally. I will probably stick with it given it is lighter and smaller so it is more suitable for travel. It sucks that Canon has no native equivalent so I cannot compare the MKii IQ with anything meaningful.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be quite a feat to price it there, as this is more robust lens than either the MK1 or the 28mm

    • @tomhsia4354
