Home health aides need to know how to change a colostomy bag in case they are caring for a patient with one. To change the bag, first wash your hands thoroughly. Then, remove the old bag by gently unhooking it from the stoma. Empty the bag into the toilet and dispose of it properly.
Next, clean the stoma with a damp cloth. You will then need to apply a new ostomy barrier ring around the stoma. This will help create a seal between the skin and the new bag
