    Very entertaining guys! Oh... and informative too! :)
    Targa NFLD is on my bucket list but the biggest problem for me is I'm on the left coast and it's on the right coast! We need a Targa VANCOUVER ISLAND!

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Targa event on Vancouver Island would be absolutely epic. The road (Hwy 4, I think) between Port Alberni and Tofino is one of the best driving roads I've ever encountered in a rental car :)

      Drove that stretch of road very regularly while living in Ucluelet. It was a huge influence in my modifying my car! lol!

    hey for the buddy club seat rails did you have them at the lowest point or at the highest point cuz i wanna know how low they sit

  • @zeroskateboarder1122
    @zeroskateboarder1122 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, I've installed my busy club seat rails and sparco evo 2 us bucket seat and it creaks a lot when you're driving in it. Is there any fix to this?
    As well the seat rails never aligned properly to the holes on the car. Maybe the seat is too wide?

  • @InsightSnip
    @InsightSnip 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    how much do the buddy club rails lower the seat by approx? I'm 6 6 thinking of buying a brz... also they only work with aftermarket seats yeah?

  • @vigneshvivek364

    Any issues with the buddy club seat rails? Did u guys have to re weld the brackets on them. I have heard the welds on them arnt the greatest?

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vignesh Vivek the welds on ours look fine. We didn't reweld them and they've held up extremely well to Targa NL, Ontario1500 (7 straight days of racing), and a whole bunch of lapping days along with a road trip to GridLife last year. We also have these seat rails in our S2000 and they've been working well in that car too.

    I have raced since 1988. We have built many race cars and won 10 track championships and over 200 races. I have a question. Why would you build a roll cage and then bolt the seats and seat belts to the floor? That is SOOO dangerous. The belts should be bolted to the cage and the seats should be bolted to a piece hung between pieces of the cage. I've never raced at a track that would allow seats or belts to be mounted to anything but the cage, if there was a cage installed. I have seen people sent home until the correction is made.

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      a1scooter1 The drivers seat has a metal bar running from the cage to the transmission tunnel but why do you say bolting seats to the floor is SOOO dangerous? Same goes for belts, we've been bolting eyelets to the floor of cars for years now and have never had any issues with tech or safety at racing events.

    • @a1scooter1
      @a1scooter1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't road race, just circle track. If a seat is bolted to the floor and the cage moves, or is dislodged, the seat stays put and the cage is crushed into the seat/person in seat. It's the same with the belts. If they are mounted to the cage, and the cage moves, or is dislodged, the seat and belt just moves with the cage and the person has a much less chance of injury. I have raced under many different sanctioning bodies and they all require the seats and belts to be bolted to the roll cage. The following is an excerpt from an article about this. ....
      "Where the belts are attached is as important as the hardware used to attach them. Any bolt used to secure a belt tab should be bracketed so that it is 90 degrees to the direction of pull. The belt tab shouldnever pull where it would stretch the bolt in length or put a bendingload on the tab.
      Belt attachments should never be directly fastened to floor sheet metal. Of course, the seat mounting should be a part of the rollcage so that you move with the cage in the event of a crash. If some of the belt attachments are mounted to the cage while others are attached to the car body, you could get squeezed when one moves and one doesn't". ....If you don't have a cage, then by all means, bolt them where you can. If you do have a cage, NEVER bolt them to anything but the cage. I'm just trying to save someone from very serious injury or death. The only time this ever came into play with any of our cars was one that Bobby Hamilton drove for us. He had yet to move to Winston Cup and was driving one of our cars. For some insane reason, he changed seats and mounted the seat to the floor instead of the cage. He had a very hard crash and was almost killed because of his stupidity.

      Speed Academy Here's a few points. ... NASCAR rules .. The Seat
      The seat has several important jobs:
      It must keep the driver inside the roll cage of his car.
      It must keep the driver from contacting anything hard during a crash.
      It must absorb some of the energy of the crash by bending.
      In the past, several deaths occurred when drivers still in their seats were thrown from cars. To counter this, NASCAR rules now require that the seat be attached, at several points, directly to the tubular structure that forms the roll cage, which is sometimes the only part of the car left intact after a crash.
      Here is a common rule at many tracks and sanctioning bodies.
      1.7 Seat Belts. 4 point belts required. 5 point belts highly recommended. Belt must be minimum 3 inches wide and no more than 5 years old. Seat must be mounted to a seat mount bracket welded to the roll cage. Mount your seat belts to whatever you mount your seat to. Follow your seat belt manufacturers guidelines as to proper seat belt mounting angles etc. Do not bolt through seat belt fabric, use steel piece that comes with seat belt.
      ASA rule ..
      12.1.2 Shoulder harness must be mounted securely to roll cage, recommended to be no more than one year old.
      WESCAR Touring Series .. 9.2 DRIVER’S SEAT
      § WESCAR approved racing quality seat is mandatory.
      § No plastic or fiberglass seats. All seat mounting bolts to be minimum 3/8” or larger with a minimum 1” washer.
      § Seat must be mounted to the frame and roll cage.
      § It is recommended that the seat provides support to driver’s ribs, shoulders and legs when sitting in a normal racing position.
      § Headrest/head surround must be mounted to seat or roll cage that will give full support to drives helmet when sitting in a normal racing position.
      § Shoulder harness should run through a welded loop behind the driver seat. Restraint system must be securely attached to the roll cage structure.

      Speed Academy You got me thinking and I checked two race seat manufacturers, Kirkey and Butler Built. They both recommend mounting to roll cage. I was going to check some more, but I'm sure they are all the same. By the way, I like your builds, they are sharp looking. This is just one thing that it seems like you have over looked or just weren't thinking right. If you just think about it, I'm sure you will start doing it the safest way. I honestly just don't want someone to get hurt.

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      a1scooter1 We're always learning so thanks for the knowledge. Per most of the series we run, it's ok to mount to the chassis, especially when it's a passenger car (not a tube frame race car) but that doesn't mean it's the safest. I did a bit of searching and couldnt find a good photo of how we'd go about mounting it to the cage so if you have any by all means let me know.

      Speed Academy Can I ask you how tall you both are? Because on you the seats look normal in Size etc. but in the Dyno Video the Dyno guy looked quite small and could just barely look over the Tachometer :D

    y did u take out the old cage and put a new one in

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the old cage's main hoop was too far forward making the driving position too cramped and some of the other bars were too close to our heads.

    why does 4 Point Takata Seat Harnesses cost more? and the 5 & 6 or so cheap

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it has to do with them being street legal so there's more cost to certify the belt.

      +Ei Al It is perfectly safe NASA organization recommends it, and everybody I know who tracks professionally and non-professionally mount to the factory seatbelt locations....I do it myself but I just route my harness over the cage and mount to the factory seatbelt locations.
