  • Original Medicare offers coverage for emergency transportation, but routine trips for doctor visits generally aren't covered.
    The only exceptions are if you lack a valid driver’s license or if your medical condition makes it unsafe for you to drive.
    Under these circumstances, you'll pay 20% of the transportation costs, while Original Medicare pays the remaining 80%.
    To qualify for coverage, you'll need written documentation from your doctor, and you'll have to sign a form called an Advance Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage.
    Additionally, some Medicare Advantage plans may include coverage for non-emergency medical transportation.
