The $100 one feels like how someone would do just watching the video and trying to mimic the dance - and that is what it's doing, which is crazy. Meanwhile the $25k one just *knows* every single movement the dancer moves and copies it 1:1
Most impressive about the $25k one is how it able to sense the feet movements accurately and kept her model grounded. The $100 struggles to keep track and it floats the model lol.
It still really struggles with rendering heels naturally though. Unless someone can rig up high heels with trackers, there's always going to be movements or postures that you either can't do in heels or have to do differently, that won't translate nicely into the render.
Shadowing beneath the feet of the 3d model on d right would also help anchor to the ground. Just one of those little touches to make the model more... grounded in reality 😂. And most likely hours of manual work by nameless video editors as well
Seeing the dancer having so much fun and a smile on their face the whole time is honestly the best part. The costly setup sure is impressing in terms of precision !
her face is also being captured by mocap, so it could also be part of her job to make miku by default look happy and energetic during the dance. though I’m sure she’s having fun, it can also be even more work to consciously keep a big smile and animated expressions while dancing, so chances are they asked her to be expressive.
Also the difference here that they don't tell you is how complex your model is, if you have a model with a very basic skeleton, you are going to get very rigid results like a cheap action figure, but if you get a model with a nice amount of extra "bones" or "joints" you are going to get a lot more realistic of movement.
The weird part is it appears the model with the more doll looking set up is the left one, as evidenced by the clipping issue on some spots. Sometimes simpler and less flashy is better.
@@rainswings1190some spots? It clips in every single move and the fingers and hands hardly ever move properly and look stiff. It's not the better of the two at all
I can't believe how much power is conveyed through the Mocap. The technology is really accurate and having such a skilled dancer makes it look even better.
ive always loved dancing and have wanted to do it professionally since i was a kid, but recently ive dealt with chronic pain and i can't do much anymore. i feel you man
The 25k mocap was remarkable, it didn't miss a step the entire time. The $100 one was fantastic for the price, it really kept up well! But most importantly, lady in the middle... you got MOVES girl, gawddamn! Lmao.
Look at left one at 2:52 too... Still, if you clean up animations manually the $100 rig is fine for cutscene and dialogue animations. Maybe even gameplay loop, just don't dance with it.
Honestly, I had stopped paying attention to either of the Mocaps by 30 seconds in because I was so captivated by the dancer in the middle. Her cute fuckin satisfied smile when she nails a combo!!!!! The immaculately fluid body rolls!! She is having SO much fun and I am living for it. Nothing virtually captured and generated will hold a candle to a real human dancing for me until they can capture the vibe, the attitude, the sass, the essence, the fucking JOY radiating from a human being when they dance. Is it even possible? I don’t know, maybe. Her dancing, though. Ugh, swoon!
@@SpikeyMuscle I'm sure you can over engineer your setup to handle foot angles in VR chat or mocap software using rig edits and more trackers but it's mostly handled using IK which is fine 99% of the time. Finger tracking is spot on with something like index controllers though, people can talk in sign language using VRC.
The $ 100 is great for the price and perfect for indie/vtubers. The $25k though is what you need for concerts etc. All its movements are perfect with almost zero clipping, has shadows and its feet are on the ground.
The feet not being on the ground is largely on the mesh used not having ankle joints. And the shadows on the right model aren't actual shadows, just a static "+" texture attached to each foot.
@@droopy_eyes Yup, it's not like the model on the right itself is even expensive, it's the one on the left being VERY basic. Likely it wasn't meant to be used for full body capture in the first place and the legs were added only in case it got out of frame.
a cool little list for everything the $25k model does rlly well: - the model is always on the ground, and if the dancer moves they copy it - there’s rarely any clipping, only in the skirt mainly - the model also copies facial expressions - no one mentioned this but she even has a shadow under her - the fingers match too - the hair never clips and moves kinda realistically - it can copy subtle movements like the body roll she does - its a full model, no spots are left unfinished - it even looks like the model exaggerates some expressions, most obvious at the end - it’s also somehow always on time - doesn’t glitch out with hard or fast moves like the spins, kick, or fast hand movements around the head - she also has heels but her ankles still move
I thought expressions are added in manually/ separately? There isn't any dots on the real dancer's face... if it really does track facial expressions...man that's amazing.
it definitely doesn't copy the facial expressions, i'm assuming what you saw were just coincidences. if you look closely you can see that the model is lipsyncing to the song and there are a lot of instances when the faces don't match so i'm guessing the facial expressions are added in later
@@cyberpeanut4375 theres still times where the facial expressions are obviously matched, dk if its added after tho. could try watching them both blink in slo mo
What I took away from this video is: I REALLY WISH I COULD WATCH THE MO-CAP ARTISTS PERFORMING MORE! ❤ Not even the 25k set-up could capture that dancer's pure happiness to be doing what she's doing! ❤❤❤
Deminishing returns are certainly a thing in this comparison but I think the difference is large enough to make both options acceptable at least this time around
Only issue is, 100$ vs 25K isn't a valid comparison point Yea i know the video is comparing an amateur user to a industry standard use but there's already tech within 1000$ that matches the 25K mocap in most sectors The movements aren't as fine nor are the details but in a normal use case? You can't tell them apart
@@MaxC_1 i dont think dancing on stage in a concert or mocap for a 3D film count as normal use cases, nor 25k set up was built for standard use. Clearly it's costly and created to be use where it suits.
@@absolstoryoffiction6615 As I already stated 1K$ hardware can already do the full body tracking at a near production level. It's harder to use than plug and play but I have hands on experience with Laser grid+body sensors being used in an under 1K Setup which couldn't be differentiated as an end result. Only problem is it's not as maneuverable as a skin hugging suit It is also a significantly better option than 25K for any user who isn't a millionaire or works with a company
the miku avatar has shadows following the feet it makes it looks so much more real even though the shadows are not perfectly mimicking the shape of the avatar. pretty cool stuff
The X shape of the shadows are meant to mimic stage lights, there’s no shadow of the full body because her back and sides are also powerfully lighted, so the shadow casted is just of the lights hitting her legs from all angles. This technique was also used in old idolm@ster games.
I’ve loved vocaloid and hatsune miku for such a long time but it never occurred to me that this is how they make the models move. I always thought it was manual on MMD maker or something. This is so cool and I’ve gained a lot more respect for all the work that truly goes into vocaloid. You are an amazing dancer 🥺
It's no doubt insanely time consuming to animate it by hand, might as well have it computer aided and have someone absolutely vibe out to the song, it's a win-win
Okay, can we just appreciate how much Akira (the dancer) is obviously love love loving life while she dances? I WISH I could experience that kind of joy while dancing. :D

It's the man himself! I've never heard 'play with fire' for a while now and I tell you what, it's still fire. Your songs are always a banger, keep it up 🔥
the way the cheaper mocap on the left doesn't move as much or as fluidly, it kinda looks like she's a beginner trying to learn the dance that miku and the woman are doing, it's kinda cute
this video was posted by the cheaper mocap company. they want you to see it is comparable to the software that costs 250x more. everyone is missing the point.
It's actually pretty impressive how well the $100 MoCap keeps up. Maybe not "production quality" for a concert or something but perfectly fine for motions that don't require more detailed precision.
Not really. The 100 dollar version looks choppy and floaty while the 25k version looks like it's in the room and is quite smooth besides an issue with the dress. The movement is so roughly translated in the 100 dollar one that I would say it's not even worth it, and someone should shop for something closer to the 1000 dollar region if they are serious and trying to capture full body movement. Of course, all the issues that are glaring to one person might not be so obvious to another.
@@Osprey1994 while you are not incorrect in any way, i think the statement here is more about the fact that for $100 you still get a decent approximation of the movement. its obviously not good enough for something like this, but if you dont need this level of movement $100 is a really good deal. for example if you you just wanted to capture a simpler animation of being in a room that did not need quick, precise movements, the $100 mocap could probably get you acceptable results
@@Osprey1994 really? Not worth it? Bro it's just 100$ you are comparing it to a technology that's 250 times more expensive, let me say it again *250 times more expensive* for just 100 bucks the movement is really decent.
The $100 version would probably work fine for regular non-dancing acting/performances. Maybe do a tier list of like, $100, $500, $1k, $5k, $10k tiers, and using the same model and compare the differences. See if it's worth it :D but yes this was fun to watch, and great energetic dance by the dancer :D
you couldn't do that though since you can only do one suit and the imaging one at the same time, she can't wear multiple suits at once. Then she would have to try and do the EXACT same performance for each suit, which is unrealistic, and any deviations would be difficult to say if it's the suit or her performance that causes any difference in model behavior/accuracy.
The actual character models also matter in the comparison, they should of both been miku, the other one could just be rigged worse with worse weightpainting which would mess with the results of the comparison. also i'd honestly rather you compared Vive fbt puck setup vs the 25k since it's still an affordable reach that was definitely better than the 100$ one for many. but omg, taking it just for the dancing, this is amazing.
I'd personally like to see a comparison against SlimeVR, Haritora, StonX, or Sony's equivalent. They all use physical trackers, but are lower profile and cheaper than vive trackers, albeit with reduced precision. I'd be curious how well those stack up to a proper mocap setup. I've personally been using SlimeVR for a while now, and it works decently, but I'm curious how it would perform for high activity like this. I never stress the system that much myself
What I am MOST impressed with is HOW DOES ANYONE dance with that getup on? It looks almost like a wetsuit for scuba. And the slippers? She is a MOST impressive dancer and the fact she can be so peppy in such a goofy outfit makes it all the more impressive. I am guessing by the end no matter how good of shape she is in she is a bit toasty due to the garments. KUDOS! The left hand dancer is MAGNIFICENT for $100. Holy Hannah things have come a long way. The $25k gear makes the right Miku look like a pretty good approximation of a REAL dancer. The feet always matching ground level is very noticeable. I saw in comments the Miku also had shadows but honestly I did not notice it until I read that. I watched the anime characters for about a minute and then just focused on the real dancer. THAT is a problem as she just blows me away and the others are just distractions. OBVIOUSLY this is great for mocap/games/anime etc etc etc but the fact that I chose to watch a person in a goofy getup dance their heart out rather than "cutie swiss-miss anime girl" on left or "sexy-cutie anime girl" on right lets ***ME*** personally know that real people still out do tech wizardry .... Good luck Dollars Markerless MoCap you obviously have a winner on your hands. :) CHEERS!
Honestly if you're dancing for miku you'd kinda need to be the kinda dancer who can't stop smiling for a second while performing. This is incredible. The facrix and everything on miku looks better.
As others have stated I did like the $100 one for being roughly decent when compared to a $25000. At the same time the professional one captured so much of the smaller movements that it feels like it's almost worth that 250x extra price... Great dance moves and great capture of those dance moves.
i mean if you get popular enough the 25k one is well worth it ive seen big streamers drop that much on pcs you can do 1million plus a year in ad revenue sponsors subscriptions/donation with just 3k concurrent viewers depending on your streaming platform
I know a lot of people are talking about the 100 dollar one getting kinda destroyed, but jfc if this isn’t the best/most lively dancer, the girl in the middle absolutely freaking SLAYED THIS SONG THOUGH HOLY FUCK THIS WAS SO GOOD?????
The capture of limb rotations makes the rest of the moves so clear and intentional. Thanks for showing it off. And respect to the dancer, I'm worn out just watching!
I really like that a lot of the moves were to highlight potential challenges with this kind of technology. Spins, arms going behind the head or body, arms going straight forward, moving between foreground and background, points of precision movement, head movement, etc. It definitely showcases the more expensive equipment that clearly spent money to address these things while the cheapest one freaked out. If the camera can't understand depth of field well or can only see what is seen from the front, of course it will have those issues where one that uses a different system won't. So I like that the dance was both entertaining and made sure to make it an honest comparison rather than something "easy" to give the cheap one a chance.
Even though the 25k one is clearly a lot better, honestly I'm surprised by how good the 100$ one looks. It's a bit clunky and a lot less expressive but for something so, so, so much cheaper, it performs a lot better than I would have guessed! It seems well worth the money paid, tbh
And 100$ is in reality just a scam, because its just ripoff of free program caled ThreeDPoseTracker, you can find more info about it and dont waste 100$ on this)
I think that if the $100 blinked a little, she could look more realistic... and wow, I'm truly impressed with how natural and good the $25k hatsune miku is, she nailed all moves. I love your dance and your energy, by the way!
This is so exceptional! Seriously. Consider how perfectly centered the dancer stays the whole time, even with all that movement. (B-Girl Akira) She definitely earns the name, I totally forgot the purpose of this comparison and just watched her the whole time. LOVE it.
Price vs performance, that 100$ setup is amazing and I love that the sales pitch is a direct comparison to the High-end setup that would be serious overkill for most people's needs but absolutely necessary for a certain level of performance. (for instance, it would be hard to tell exactly how talented the performer is if we only saw the 100$ setup, but I personally would never be able to push the 25k setup to its limits or even close.)

It’s a miku song dance, that one specifically is hiasobi (play with fire), but there’s a lot of others like it, try looking up vocaloid mmds and you’ll probably find a lot
this style of dance is usually called "B-Boy"or "B-Girl" depending on who's performing however if you like the dancer featured in this here video then you could look for "B-GIRL AKIRA", that's the dancer's own channel on YT and if you want some more, then try looking for MobiusP, that guy's usually the engineer for the mocap (including this one iirc) and have mo-capped from various dancers of roughly the same style, so you might find something similar to this although he doesn't have a channel here on YT, the dancers that have worked with him do post the side-by-side (the mocap dancer with some anime chara) video just like this one on YT
For the style of dance, the pre-chorus had a lot of "vogue" with the arms and hands. At the chorus there was a lot more "swing" with the legs. Seems very influenced by the electric swing style.
@@antoinette... that would makes sense considering the song she dances to (Hiasobi: Play With Fire) is actually an Electric Swing song pretty cool to know that the dancer managed to keep the spirit of the genre
Check out the channel of the person in the video, she does quite some original choreography: www.youtube.com/@BGIRLAKIRA As for the style depicted here, there's no one specific genre since it's a mix of a few different styles. The fast arm swing like at 0:25 is Waacking dance, while most of the footwork is House dance so I suggest looking those up. House dance is VERY popular amongst Japanese dancer so try looking up "踊ってみた" (lit: i tried to dance) if you wanna see Vocaloid song dance covers in similar style.
I fully did not realize this was a *product video* Absolutely a bold move! Definitely not bad for the price point though, most non-corporate use cases probably can't justify the 25k price point
The dancing is impressive, the tech is impressive, overall such an interesting video. Especially the tracking of the hands and feet/grounding is fascinating
My take is that the 100$ one is pretty good, and more than enough for most people who aren't doing so many complex movements. That said, the $25k one is clearly superior, and if you want to actually capture all the small detailed movements, then its kinda insane how big the cap is between them. In other words, the 100$ one is pretty good, the $25k one is reeealy f**king good
just because one is way better than the other doesnt mean you cant compare them. They are both mocap, and both are trying to replicate the same thing. The whole point of this comparison is to show how much of a improvement the right is from a cheap basic mocap.
Surprised how good they both are! The 25k holy crap, amazing software. That being said, it's kind of amazing how well the cheap one did for only $100, but its flaws were glaringly obvious. Even so, for $100, great starting point. The dancer, wow. Someone should link her channel if she has one, quite talented with great positive energy!
Very nice tracking and the mocap is similar to the Kinects when used for virtual FBT trackers in VR. I see similar limitations with not able to do subtle movements and only ever being able to face forward for tracking and even some issues with the arms when pointing ahead instead of outward like in the final pose as the end of the dance.
This is EXACTLY how Vex Ruby works. Vex Ruby uses a full OptiTrack system with face tracking for live streams. I’m so glad this video exists as it makes it easy to explain why we went that route. Motion Capture for life!
I enjoyed the actual dancer most. I think seeing the muscles on the human, that move and have secondary motion, creates more weight and power. While the cap on the right is superior, no doubt, nothing beats the real deal for me. :) Great dance moves!
Yes she slayed!!!!! It also highlighted how with avatars we'll just make another step further into ridiculous bodystandards, Miku's waist is smaller than her head.

Dude, this lady can dance. Also, that kick for the left avatar at 3:12 broke the laws of physics.
Maybe it's just faster than the speed of light.
Look at left one at 2:52 too... Still, if you clean up animations manually the $100 rig is fine for cutscene and dialogue animations. Maybe even gameplay loop, just don't dance with it.

And what little privacy miku had left in that outfit
She kicked herself in the face
Honestly, I had stopped paying attention to either of the Mocaps by 30 seconds in because I was so captivated by the dancer in the middle. Her cute fuckin satisfied smile when she nails a combo!!!!! The immaculately fluid body rolls!! She is having SO much fun and I am living for it. Nothing virtually captured and generated will hold a candle to a real human dancing for me until they can capture the vibe, the attitude, the sass, the essence, the fucking JOY radiating from a human being when they dance. Is it even possible? I don’t know, maybe.
Her dancing, though. Ugh, swoon!

The 25k on the right is definitely superior. However, what you get for the 100 version makes it ideal for the regular consumer.
Honestly seen much better tracking using HTC Vive Pucks and a VR set, I'd say that's about the sweet spot for the tier above ultra budget.
@@delta-a17
Can it do full body???
@@absolstoryoffiction6615 With the Vive satellites and tracking pucks, yeah. You wear trackers on your feet and waist as a minimum for full body.
@@delta-a17 that is potentially exciting!!! How does it handle individual finger movements and foot angles?

@@Kyrmana it was Vroid beta pre-made model after all
The vtuber kpop group should be using the 25k one but idt they have the budget for that yet💀
a cool little list for everything the $25k model does rlly well:
- the model is always on the ground, and if the dancer moves they copy it
- there’s rarely any clipping, only in the skirt mainly
- the model also copies facial expressions
- no one mentioned this but she even has a shadow under her
- the fingers match too
- the hair never clips and moves kinda realistically
- it can copy subtle movements like the body roll she does
- its a full model, no spots are left unfinished
- it even looks like the model exaggerates some expressions, most obvious at the end
- it’s also somehow always on time
- doesn’t glitch out with hard or fast moves like the spins, kick, or fast hand movements around the head
- she also has heels but her ankles still move
I thought expressions are added in manually/ separately? There isn't any dots on the real dancer's face... if it really does track facial expressions...man that's amazing.
@@OdyLoveMusicu can kinda see it at 0:58 when they both close there eyes and theres another part where they both wink
edit: fount it: 1:59
I also noticed that the $25k rig moved with depth. When the dancer moved closer/farther away, miku did too, but the other model stayed in place
it definitely doesn't copy the facial expressions, i'm assuming what you saw were just coincidences. if you look closely you can see that the model is lipsyncing to the song and there are a lot of instances when the faces don't match so i'm guessing the facial expressions are added in later
@@cyberpeanut4375 theres still times where the facial expressions are obviously matched, dk if its added after tho. could try watching them both blink in slo mo

Deminishing returns are certainly a thing in this comparison but I think the difference is large enough to make both options acceptable at least this time around
Only issue is, 100$ vs 25K isn't a valid comparison point
Yea i know the video is comparing an amateur user to a industry standard use but there's already tech within 1000$ that matches the 25K mocap in most sectors
The movements aren't as fine nor are the details but in a normal use case? You can't tell them apart
@@MaxC_1 i dont think dancing on stage in a concert or mocap for a 3D film count as normal use cases, nor 25k set up was built for standard use. Clearly it's costly and created to be use where it suits.

Only problem is it's not as maneuverable as a skin hugging suit
It is also a significantly better option than 25K for any user who isn't a millionaire or works with a company

the miku avatar has shadows following the feet it makes it looks so much more real even though the shadows are not perfectly mimicking the shape of the avatar. pretty cool stuff
And the pigtails also moved back and forth the shoulder that also gave it super realistic energy
I always thought it was manual on MMD maker or something. there are people who hand-animate it too! but in project diva, project sekai, and concerts, they use mocap
It's no doubt insanely time consuming to animate it by hand, might as well have it computer aided and have someone absolutely vibe out to the song, it's a win-win

@@codak29ok. why reply that to me specifically.
Just mad they put the screen in the middle, wanna see that sweet footwork of the real person.
It's actually pretty impressive how well the $100 MoCap keeps up. Maybe not "production quality" for a concert or something but perfectly fine for motions that don't require more detailed precision.
Honestly, $100 for that kind of movement is incredible value.
Until it twitched when she turned back hahaha
@@Osprey1994 I mean yeah, the 25k one has shadows, I dunno how that works
You didn't have to make it sound this tragic 🤣
you couldn't do that though since you can only do one suit and the imaging one at the same time, she can't wear multiple suits at once.

Other - Was that a challenge?!

It’s a miku song dance, that one specifically is hiasobi (play with fire), but there’s a lot of others like it, try looking up vocaloid mmds and you’ll probably find a lot
this style of dance is usually called "B-Boy"or "B-Girl" depending on who's performing
however if you like the dancer featured in this here video then you could look for "B-GIRL AKIRA", that's the dancer's own channel on YT
and if you want some more, then try looking for MobiusP, that guy's usually the engineer for the mocap (including this one iirc) and have mo-capped from various dancers of roughly the same style, so you might find something similar to this
although he doesn't have a channel here on YT, the dancers that have worked with him do post the side-by-side (the mocap dancer with some anime chara) video just like this one on YT
For the style of dance, the pre-chorus had a lot of "vogue" with the arms and hands. At the chorus there was a lot more "swing" with the legs. Seems very influenced by the electric swing style.
@@antoinette... that would makes sense considering the song she dances to (Hiasobi: Play With Fire) is actually an Electric Swing song

As for the style depicted here, there's no one specific genre since it's a mix of a few different styles.
The fast arm swing like at 0:25 is Waacking dance, while most of the footwork is House dance so I suggest looking those up.

MORE PEOPLE NEED TO TALK ABOUT HOW SHE ABSOLUTELY ATE THIS UP
This is like, the best mocap I've ever seen on Miku? I haven't seen any live shows personally with better mocap than this?
This is EXACTLY how Vex Ruby works. Vex Ruby uses a full OptiTrack system with face tracking for live streams. I’m so glad this video exists as it makes it easy to explain why we went that route. Motion Capture for life!
