that's danny elfman singing, he was the voice of jack
Well he wasn't the voice of Jack during the normal dialogues, just the songs.
He recorded the dialogues but in the end they went with another voice actor, which led to Elfman being mad at Burton for a while.
Chris sarandon was jacks normal dialogue, (he's the cop from childs play and prince humperdink from princess bride)

Jack feels empty cause he got bored of what he does. He wants something new. He feels a void inside of him.
But he also misinterpreted the void he feels. It wasn't just wanting something new: *it was wanting someone to share his life with*
It makes you want to give Jack a hug and tell him it's going to be ok.
I figured Jack was actually looking for something to bring joy and love which turned out that he had that all along and it's Sally who was his secret admirer if that makes more sense?
I feel him I've been searching for a girlfriend since I was 15. I'm 25, so now it's too late for me to find a relationship.

This song reminds you that you are stuck with something and you get so tired of it, and you feel so empty and believe that there is something out there to fill that emptiness inside you. If you find that something to fill in that void, you just want to feel happy that you found something entirely new.

No. Danny Elfman's voice is great.
Years ago, when my brother got married, I knew this entire song and was able to sing it. For some reason I decided to sing it during the wedding, just before dinner.
I remember how scared I was to sing in front of so many people, and yet when I ended the song, everybody was cheering and applauding, heck one of the woman even told me she knew the song and that I sing it perfectly.
It was more than 10 years ago, once I ask my borther "Why the hell did I decided to sing that song during a wedding ?" he answered "I don't know, but I really liked it !"
It does sound a bit random but honestly it's such a beautiful song that could fit anywhere and that I love to listen to at anytime so I would've payed to watch you sing it xD

With a stretch of the imagination, you can also say Jack needed love and didn't realize it.
Thank you Tim Burton and Danny Elfman as well as the cast production team. Classic film. They should do a remake as well. Bring back the old cast.

I relate to this song too much
Had the good fortune to see Danny and most of the original cast (with a live orchestra and chorus) perform NBC last Halloween & Dia de los Muertos last year. He then (as most of you probably already know) blew our minds by doing (after his reprises of NBC songs) "Dead Man's Party" twenty years after the last time he performed it at the Oingo Boingo Farewell concert. I swear, I think we all went insane simultaneously, when he walked onstage wearing a tight black t-shirt and carrying his guitar, then invited Steve Bartek out to play with him. IT WAS EPIC. I know that's overused, but this definitely was something very very special. I feel sorry for the people who left early to beat traffic. They really blew it.

You know what’s funny? I literally just got done watching Megamind and this song was in my mix and Jack’s story reminded me instantly of Metro Man’s. Metro Man had everything, but he still felt like he had nothing. He grew tired of being a hero, tired of the praise, tired of the fame and decided to become a humble musician because that’s what he wanted to be. There are certain people that we would give anything to be in their shoes, but we never really picture that person wishing to be in our shoes.
