    You can also remove the chainrings without taking out the crank and without special tools, just flip the bike upside down, remove the bolts from the small, then the large chainring and then you can slide em right over the crankarms and pedals

      This works with the large outer ring but not the small inner one. I know cos I tried it tonight! 😅

    Thanks for this, had to buy a couple tools but swapped out my crankset to a 165mm and changed the chainrings while I was at it. Saved me from having to leave the bike at the shop for a few days and probably a higher cost than the tools.

    Hi! What chainrings did you replace it with?

    Hello, could I directly replace my 1x 172.5mm cranks with the 600 1x or 2x 165mm? I need to use shorter cranks and only the 600 has them. Are they compatible/ interchangeable?

    Well that video was good news! I've a new bike with a GRX 400 and looking at the chainring/arm it looked from the outside like it was riveted or one unit as there was no sign of an allen bolt or anything and it looks amazingly seamless like it wasn't even meant to come apart. I'd not considered they'd flipped the bolts to the inside where I couldn't see then, not seen that before. Good to know I can replace them without replacing the entire thing. But a bit of a pain you need to take it all apart to do that, I've replaced chainrings far more reasily before. And I don't have the special tool (Yet!).

    Can you put the big chain ring (grx 810 48t), only the big one, no the small one, over this crank (grx600 46t)???

      I have done that and so far I don't seem to have any issues. Some adjustment on the front derailleur height is required. I have started to get a rear derailleur noise when downshifting, coming from the guide jockey wheel. Not sure if this is related to exceeding the maximum capacity of the rear derailleur by 2 teeth or the Teflon spray I have been using for it. Regardless I really like the 48T front chainring and I suppose if the big=big combo is avoided even theoretically there should not be any problems (I do find myself there from time to time if I am not paying attention).

      I tried, result is not amazing. Shape of crank arm differ a bit between 800 and 600, and screws are a bit longer over GRX800. In practice it shifts, it kinda work, but I was getting some creaking sound.

    Hello, great video! and very usefuk, thanks!! Just a question: I have exactly the same crankset and I want to replace with a 1x ... I am wondering if it is enough to by a 1x 40T chainrings and mount it in the very same crankset or if I need to buy a complete crankset... Do you know if the 1x and 2x craknset are compatible for exchanging chainrings?
    thanks

    Very helpful, thanks. I think it's possible to remove the cranks without breaking the chain, just take it off the inner chain ring and let it hang while removing the cranks, then to install the cranks put the axle and chainrings into the looped chain when inserting the axle into the bottom bracket, if that makes sense.

    Hello! I'm looking to upgrade to oval chainrings for my GRX 600.. do you have any recommendations?

  • @larrymcgoldrick3471
    @larrymcgoldrick3471 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks. But would really like to see if it is possible to install a GRX 600 crank on a road bike frame with 130mm rear axle spacing. I would certainly like to be able to run 46/30 gearing and GRX front derailleur if needed for steep climbing. Haven't seen anyone address this compatibility.

    Today I replaced my old crankset and bottom bracket with new bbr60 and 2x grx. I thought new bb is faulty as it was not spinning freely. I can see in your video that it does exact same thing, so that put my mind to rest now. Thank you!

      Won’t fit. These are made for 68-70mm frame width at the bottom bracket area. MTB usually are 73mm so it won’t fit.

      It is possible, the cranksets are the same, just the chainrings that are different.
