    As someone born in Čačak during the time of former Yugoslavia, who grew up in Chicago, I truly cannot describe how appreciative i am of people like yourself. To show an appreciation for our little city in the heart of Serbia, it tells a lot about your character! I've never been to the UK but have always wanted to visit and hopefully i can do that soon. Thanks! The lady in the shop taught me zima the other day because I shivered so I then learnt hladno vruće zima leto haha.
      I have a question, is there the issue in Serbian with 'hot' as in Spanish, ie in Spanish if I say 'estoy caliente' that would mean I'm sexually aroused not temperature hot lol

    • @Karabash15
      @Karabash15 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidostrowski679 Don't worry, in Serbia you can say vruće whenever you feel like it's vruće, it will never be considered as something sexually ;) But watch out when you go to eat pizza and say "vruća pica", that can mean something different in Serbian, as you probably can imagine, you get it ;)

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely more well kept! I do miss those Mexidogs, they are iconic. It's just a shame how they came to be on the streets in the first place! Beautiful churches yes! Mexico and Serbia are probably my favorites for that. Serbian churches and Orthodox churches in the Balkans in general aren't as elaborate as grand cathedrals in Mexico on the exterior but they certainly make up for it inside!

      @@davidostrowski679 Well, we do have the Spaniards to thank for all of that opulance all over the Latin region. FYI, they are investigating the local archbishop (archbishop 'bling' as we call him) in the DF for money laundering and hanging with the wrong crowd if you catch my drift. I digress, yes the humility of those Balkan churches and the illustrations on the inside are simply WOW. Stay safe.

    The monument to the hero, Tanasko Rajić (ТАНАСКО РАЈИЋ), shows with a sword where a very important battle took place (in which he died at the end), and that is where the monument and the church were built. The fight was against the Turks, that's why the church is dedicated to King Lazar, the winner of the battle in Kosovo. Yes, you are right, the church was built recently, but the monument was not. 😊

    Aaaa, you should have gone there a few days later, as Cacak is also a University center, and in a week city population would at least double, both from students and high-schoolers. As a Serbian, not from Cacak, Cacak is one of my favorite cities to visit - it's a representable typical Serbian central Sumadian city that has everything, that has nice rough and tough, but kind people - that you can see by how animals are treated and how they respond to humans, and you can find there all you can find in New York, Paris or London. Well, maybe not oysters imported from Fiji same day, but yeah, but who even thinks about that when you have abundance of wheat/pastries, animals/meat/milk and fruits/rakija. And women love to make sweets. I have been many times to Cacak, some years on a weekly basis, and I obsoletely enjoyed it. I stayed in Hotel Beograd few times just because it felt cool to stay in Cacak for one more day or because I was too hangover.
    You can get great coffee and students hang out in that huge communist brutalist concrete building in the center,. go 1st floor and they redone it so it looks great by 2021 western standards. Across the street is a great pastry shop with all kinds of perfect sweets and stuff. Dunno much about how it's now, but across Hotel Belgrade, when you go downstairs, used to be some nightlife clubs.
    As for monuments - Stepa Stepanovic was Commander/Field marshal ("Vojvoda" in Serbian), born near Belgrade and died in Cacak. He is very responsible for chasing off Ottomans and for having Serbia today, as well as prevailing in WW1. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stepa_Stepanovi%C4%87)
    Tanasko Rajic (Anastasije), was also a commander and Vojvoda, to whom we can thank that Turks are gone from our lands (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanasko_Raji%C4%87).
    And also, I think those killed in uprisings against Turks in Balkan wars, in WW1 and WW2 are some bunch of happy old bones knowing that Serbian children are playing football above.
    Anyway, great video, keep on making good stuff!

    Vladislav Petković Dis was an important poet for Serbia because he marked the start of deviating from traditional romanticism into more experimental and impressionist territory. His poems also often included fantastic and surreal imagery. For this he was panned by contemporary critics which in such a conservative society often expressed very little tolerance for artistic innovation.

      Hey Marina I'm from Feltham which is basically next to Heathrow Airport. It's much more modern now but when I was growing up there would be shopping centres in a similar style to the cultural centre and lots of high rise tower blocks from post-war 50s-70s. I'm going to be back there in late October and will be highlighting the 'London you don't see' ie lots of brutalism and graffiti! Instead of boring tourist sights haha
      If you search for Feltham 1970s you'll get a good idea. There's a pub called the moon on the square - before that area was redeveloped in the late 90s it was very concrete and depressing. The Oasis video 'Stand by Me' was filmed there in 1997 just before they knocked it all down.
      I haven't been in Feltham for about 10 years and haven't been in London since before the pandemic so Serbia feels more like home to me now

    i like your style of traveling, going off the beaten tracks. yes, touristy places are usually nice and well polished, but you learn far more when you walk along the back streets. i also like the fact that you stay in one place for more than 1 day (eg. have a 'base' and then do day visits to nearby towns) - i don't think you can absorb anything about people just by running from one tourist destination to another (my sister, brother in law and i went to the national gallery canberra (2.5 hours drive from sydney), to see some exhibition. my brother-in-law literally just walked by the paintings, without actually stopping to see them. i could not believe it. why did he even go there if he wasn't interested ??? so he can say he saw the exhibition ???)

It has the same root as to vie , vying in English though not 100 % the same meaning , voda= vod , vodja = leader , voditi= to lead , to guide ..from guidare in Italian or to guide ...with the truncation of g at the beginning ..vojvoda is yup not the Duke but a battle leader , army general ...but I wouldnt translate the title at all .in a context other than in a footnote
