  • General advice can help you, but it can also hurt you. My relationship with advice is a bit… love-hate. It’s complicated. Seeking out high quality advice has helped me tremendously, but seeking out advice has also led me astray. How should one navigate the limitations of general advice and carve out their own best path, which will ultimately be different from anyone else’s? Stay tuned to find out.

    The worst general advice: never give up. I know it is necessary to stick on something if you wanna success. But what if you do not like it? What if the continuance brings you nothing but misery. I still remember the day I quit the swimming team to focus on my studies and go to medical school. I'm glad I gave it up at that time^_^

    People should always tailor their general advice based on the person(s) situation, or personality. As a young neurotic person, I tend to receive unsolicited advice by a lot of people- one of the worst general advice is to calm down or 'chill'. The advice has been helpful at times, but often or not my neuroticism is what helped me get through in high school especially at my first year college.

    I’m applying to residency this year, and this video was so helpful because many people feel the need to comment/give unsolicited advice about a field they know little about. Sometimes it has been negative/discouraging, but I know that my choice will be my best path. Thanks for reminding me that advice from people I don’t wish to emulate isn’t that important.

    Im not in the medical field but have worked in the Health industry for a couple of years. I found one of your other videos interesting (business vid) so thought to watch your latest one. Also good on you for this channel, good luck.
    With me when it comes to advice, there's great advice and yes there's definitely rubbish. It comes down to where advice came from and distinguishing whats reasonable and whats not. Good advice is great to follow. Rubbish advice is good in a sense we can learn from it as a "what not to do" scenario, and even better if you never followed that advice in the first place. This can go further with learning habits as well, such as good habits by your clients and colleagues, and the worst habits made by them. Ones memory bank of learning "what to dos" and "what not to dos" in many situations is very beneficial. With the good habits and knowledge one can accumulate over time has great benefits e.g. clients/customers/colleagues will trust and even be amazed by you, and you can even feel good about yourself as well.

    • @anditsme2891
      @anditsme2891 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the best satisfactions I get is learning "what to do" and "what not to dos" when it comes to some company processes. Some companies can have some bad or frustrating processes of any kind which are down right crazy. Yes sometimes you can change these processes and sometimes no, but one can at least learn mentally you just do the opposite of "what not to dos" or amend them so you end up with a good amount of "what to dos" in future, which can be used at the same company or even better at other companies, or even in ones own life.

    I like this type of videos they seem to follow a series with the playlist that you mention in the video. But I would like to see more videos dedicated to different study tecnics, maybe a new version of the USMLE video, more videos advising premed students on how to attack a particular class like biochemistry. Even if you speak about the topic in a general manner I think it will be very hepfull. Anyway's thank you for all your advise and help.

    What would you say is the difference in the advice you give for free on TH-cam vs what you provide for cost at medschool insiders?

    • @MedSchoolInsiders
      @MedSchoolInsiders  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comes down to be personalized to your needs. We can provide general advice in videos but answering how to best proceed as a non traditional applicant with a failed attempt in the past and an MCAT of 503 and GPA of 3.4 requires a more nuanced and individualized approach.

    Worst advice (pre-med only): Go to a Caribbean medical school if you score poorly on your MCAT and have a bad GPA, because in the time you spend improving your application you could be done with year one/two in the Caribbean.

    The assumption that one has to be that something or have credentials to give advice is untrue. You do not have to be an MVP to be an amazing coach. You don't have to have a PHD to be a great teacher.
    I understand that this a commercial for your business and I wish you the best, but creating a 10 minutes video on why you should listen to me is redundant and unnecessary.
    Too bad, I am a med student myself and generally love your channel but this video is off-putting and makes your message just not as useful, making me question your other videos

    • @MedSchoolInsiders
      @MedSchoolInsiders  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fact that there are so many charlatans and people peddling bad advice counters your argument. Is it a rule you need credentials? No, but the three factor outlined in the video are a very good guideline that people far more successful than you or I have even suggested.
      Thanks for watching. If you don’t like my videos, I’m not offended if you unsubscribe
