  • I spent two days fishing the Huntingdon area in Pennsylvania - a day on the Juniata River, and a day on Raystown Lake. In between, I stayed at a "Boondockers Welcome" location. I set up my Drifter hammock, along with several accessories like a rain fly, bug net, Thermarest and under quilt to make sure that I slept warm and comfortable. This was my first night doing this. After a successful boondocking stay, I plan on doing this more often.

    Great video! Glad you switched to the black jig with craw trailer. That's my favorite lure for large mouth on tough days at Raystown. Thanks for letting us know about Harvest Host. That's new to me.

      I was somewhat skeptical, hence the three night trial indoors sleeping in the Drifter. Once I set the whole thing up with the underquilt, bug net, rain fly and mummy bag in the yard and tried it out on a chilly day, I felt I could trust it because in those conditions, I was HOT inside of three minutes. Once I was at the Boondockers Welcome site, with all that wind, it was perfect.

    I love downriver camping. I don't have any fishing kayaks, but I have done pretty much every major PA river by primitive camping out a canoe. I do a tent and I stay dry. I have actually done island camping out of a jetboat as well. The advantage of the major rivers is that you can usually find a way to do it in the summer, when the smaller waterways have insufficient water. I had the West Branch on my calendar last weekend, but you can imagine why we didn't go.

      It was blown out! I used to do island camping on the New in SW VA years ago - a week at a time. I did some primitive camping with my kids on Susquehanna islands when they were younger. We used a 16 foot cataraft, so there was plenty of room for gear.

    Live in Stormstown, Kayak fish the Juniata. Enjoy your channel! Hard to believe you were on the river in those conditions! Way more flow than I would consider to fish. Hill Street Blues quote comes to mind, "Lets be careful out there!"

      I’ve done rivers a long time. The motor and inflatable combination is unique and very forgiving. It doesn’t make you invincible, but all that power, stability and maneuverability is unique in kayak fishing.

    Hmmm...at 7:01 you are putting on your water bibs to go out on a severely swollen river.... If you would dump the kayak, wouldn't the bibs fill up with cold water and cause hypothermia as they are pulling you under? (BTW: what would you do if you dumped it in a swollen river?)...Then at 44:58 you say you are putting on the dry suit in case you end up in the water, which is a lake with no current and you aren't far from shore... That seems 100% backwards, so what am I missing in your line of thinking, Jeff? PS: Was out in high windy conditions today kayak fishing a Pocono lake with a thunder storm looming, but managed four Pickeral with the last one being a fat 19 incher ! I am being influenced by you to get out there and try conditions I normally wouldn't bother with (but not in swollen river current! :-)

    On your first splash kayak had reg numbers on a plate attached too rail , Is that because it was inflatable ? On my Atak 140 I did same , In past tag came off , I have numbers on a light clear lucite plate that I attach too screw wholes bow , one plate has the current tag , prior too launch ,

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, attaching registration numbers to an inflatable is a challenge. The plate serves as a surface to mount them. They also hold the sliding foot pegs for the foot control steering of the motor.

    Love what you’re doing with inflatables. That prototype looks awesome. How’s the stability compared to the 1436? I’m guessing slightly less.

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Osprey is the most stable kayak I’ve ever been on. It’s got primary stability overkill. In theory, this new one, the Peregrine has less stability than the Osprey, but it’s second to only the Osprey in the stability ranking. It’s crazy stable.

    Great job Jeff ! Really love the prototype Yak ! How long is it?

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      14’9” - that’s where most people will say “that’s too much boat for me”. If it was a rotomolded vessel, I would 100% agree, as far as river fishing. But inflatable kayaks turn like a boat that is 4 feet shorter than they are. The proof of that is in this video. I’m super happy with it, as I was with the Osprey. The difference is that this one breaks free of the 6.8 mph “glass ceiling” and is almost a mile per hour faster. That equates to being able to do what I did on the flooding Juniata. It will equate to being able to climb up through rapids better than any other kayak.

    • @georgetollefsen994
      @georgetollefsen994 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheLittleStuff cool thanks Jeff . I love inflatables ! I have two Star rival fish yak’s rigged up similar to yours, I don’t even use my rotomolded yak’s anymore. Hey Jeff, do you know if the river was still rising or starting to fall? I noticed with the potomac and Shenondoah that if you got the crest and a day of fall in height they go wild in those spots.

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can see the gauge displayed on my phone at the end of the river segment. It had been up for a long time, dropped for a day, and the day after, when I was out there it was rising back to where it was - flooding out of the banks again.
