Great to see an example of a homeschooling day! As a teacher in an Australian mainstream school, can I please suggest you consider researching the Science of Reading. The research shows that it’s important to teach children phonics when learning to read vs learning through memorisation. When Karma read “The fish drinks”, you could see that she was relying on the illustration rather than decoding the text. While illustrations are certainly important for comprehension, at Karma’s age it’s soooo important to teach her the most common sounds each letter of the alphabet makes, and as she’s older, learning spelling patterns. Just a suggestion!
Completely agree! I work with children diagnosed with hearing loss after they have had their hearing-aids fitted. We focus on phonic training a lot in the methodology that we use, which is not a system employed by mainstream British education, which is a shame. It makes a big difference and improves reading, spelling, and speaking :) I noticed it a lot too, many children try to guess contextually/predict the ending of a word, rather than actually reading.
Agreed. I’ve been watching many homeschooling families and learning the different programs offered. This is the only one I’ve seen for age 5 that does not use phonics to read.
there is a pod cast type thing called Sold a Story that talks about how one person drastically effected how reading was taught and was proven wrong but people bought the theory and got behind it so much it ruined school reading programs....
My favorite teacher was Mr. Clark , he was my high school Business Management teacher. His favorite saying was " When in doubt write it out, when not in doubt write it out any way. That way you will never be in doubt."
Seeing you prepare your breakfast made me miss your old videos with all the „what we eat in a day“ parts 😋 maybe you could show more of your meals in the future
I was bullied for 10 years out of the 15 years I went to school. I've always enjoyed your channel, partly due to getting an insight into a harmonious living/working environment that I never experienced. I definitely admire and understand the emotional benefits of homeschooling, though I also wouldn't be the person I am today without the harsh experiences of school. Thanks for sharing your lifestyle with us!
As someone who does sociology as GCSE I found this really interesting, btw I am a regular viewer, but because you guys also travel a lot your children experience new cultures and life styles so that also helps your kids educationally. I also love how you guys have strict schedule and then freedom ❤
Wish i could have been homeschooled. Sounds amazing. I hated school from day one. I skipped school so often in my later years and that would never have happened if i was at home learing in a safe environment. School felt like brainwashing. Thank you for this video! You two have brought up 4 amazing kids🙌🙏💖
This was really nice to see this different side of you all, felt more like a behind the scenes type video. I've always really been interested to see what homeschooling entailed and it looks perfect.
Karma and Koa are like sweet old married couple together. It's great to so more parents homeschool their kids, homeschooled kids usually work they dream jobs, and follow their dreams. ❤❤
In Australia, I left in year 10. I was extremely nervous and never happy being at school. I have learnt more being at home doing work at my own time has really benefited me much more than my days at school. I don’t know if it’s a distraction thing, or it’s the thought of going there but It was the best decision of my life. These kids are extremely smart and well spoken, and it proves that no matter if you home school children or go to school, either way it works.
What a brilliant approach to homeschooling. I've watched lots of vlogs about this subject but you guys have an excellent approach and just going to a country house turned into a huge learning opportunity with some great conversations. I really was impressed. Well done guys xxx
It made me so happy ,to see that you visit places like this with your children! As an adult I started visiting national trust properties with my parents and it's such a wonderful time for us to spend together, learning about history, art and architecture. I love that you're doing this because I feel as though appreciation for this sort of thing is lost on younger generations and I really feel it's so beautiful and should be valued more. Like Georgie and Sienna, I'd love a beautiful old house, filled with character and books! what a dream
How do they make friends with people and connect with those from different backgrounds? I feel like school helped exposed me to all this and helped me learn and grow up with others and helped me learn new interests and stuff? Some clubs id go wasn’t diverse.
A little tip for Sienne, while stirring the porridge (or food in general) I wouldn't use a metal Spoon or any hard metal, since that will damage the pot! I would rather use a wooden spoon so you don't damage the pot while stirring the food :)
@red_fox_therian1, to each their own. I disagree agree, I don’t believe that children need to be in the school system. There are so many amazing things about homeschooling, and so many wonderful books about homeschooling. Also resources for children to use. The school may have some good things, but there are also so many problems with the system.
I think home schooling is brilliant, my 14 year old grandaughter is getting bullied at school and it’s affecting her mental health, at least this doesn’t happen with homeschooling
Darren and Gorgie Wow ! You have really got Homeschool down to a tea haven’t you. Well Done. Your children are so knowledgeable at such a young age. Karma and Koa are sooo sweet . I love their little voice and the caring way they are with you , and the way you are with them. All that healthy breakfast food the children knew about as well and the nutrition is such a great thing to learn about. Darren, were you at Georgie both Homeschooled yourselves as well ? His Sienna getting on with her mouth brace these days? Perhaps you could do a vlog all about that or in o e if your other channels? This was such an interesting vlog to do . Thanks for sharing Guys. Hey Fizz Fam - just wanted to say how jelly I was of your holiday in Africa. It was lovely to see the animals you saw in their natural environment. Looking forward to watching this video. Love ya lots ❤ xxx
I love Darren’s accidental pun “the clock has stood the test of time.” And the wardrobe of dido Elizabeth bell! What a fascinating story in history! Love your school adventures!
So nice to see what your daily routines are! What I am wondering is, what if Sienna makes up her mind to want to go to university or something later on? I don’t know why, but I could vision her beeing a uni student so well. Would she be able to go? Do homeschooled kids get a degree still to apply to jobs and universities?
I don’t mean to be rude, but how do they make friends if they don’t go to school? And if they do like extracurricular activities (like table tennis or smt like that) which extracurricular activities do they do?
I've always wanted to be homeschooled, but my parents say it costs too much money for a tutor. i might homeschool myself when im 17 / 18 because you have to be in education until 18, and there is more freedom with homeschooling xx
My friend was homeschooled and just got books out library and did project work. Maybe few other books bought for say maths. Plus going to museums and outside space like parks. No tutor at all.
Love this video but in future it would be interesting to have the clips time stamped just to see how long things take! The having dinner then going out twice threw me off! What sort of time do they go to tutoring in the evening? :)
That’s great Karma’s doing Kumon!! I taught at a Kumon math and reading for 3 years. Loved all the kiddos. I also did Kumon from 4.5 years until I graduated high school. It really helped ( I was also homeschooled)
I recommend going to Plas Newydd next. It's beautiful there. It's under National Trust, it might be a trek from where you are as it's in Wales but it's absolutely stunning and totally worth going!
Family Fizz!!! I love watching your videos!! You guys are amazing to watch! I’m a very big fan of all of you! I really hope I can meet you guys one day as I was born in south Africa and all my family is from England and hopefully I will see you one day in England! ❤ Thank you for doing all amazing videos
I’m a nursery nurse..your balance of structured learning and free play is really nice ☺️ you could incorporate some fine motor skill play activities which will get them ready for writing and holding a pencil…instagram has loads of ideas. Also sand and water play would be lovely if you have an outside space. One of my favourite word learning songs on TH-cam is ‘tricky words song’ it’s really catchy! Also recommend ‘discover’ children’s story making centre for a learning day out..that’s in Stratford.
Such intelligent kids! For the youngsters and even for the bigger girls I really recommend the books from "insiders". They are 3D kinda like books and have many intresing big images like the whole page and little text explaning stuff. They are on the page but also 3D if that makes sense and because of that it feels like you are with those animals in the case of "rain forest" . I really learned a lot from those books as a kid.
I live in Florida, USA and love your family and watching your videos. In 1998 a friend and I went to England (London, Essex and many other places including a 4 day 3 night bus tour of the Cottswalds (so?) and over to Wales. Would love to go again!
I love this video! If you read Phillippa Gregory she writes about the Howard family (of which Ann Boleyn was a part) whom those paintings you showed are of

A question i have is how do your children socialise without school? I dont mean this in a rude way, i know mia made lots of friends over Instagram but how do karma and koa make friends ?❤
Socialisation comes in many forms: taking part in sports/activities, meeting up with other children who are homeschooled, also life in general. In life we have to interact with people of all ages. Children going out and living life is socialisation as well.
This question always confuses me when people ask. They are socializing with their siblings and parents. These kiddos very clearly speak with manners and respect. And when they go on their outings, their mom and dad constantly model how to speak to others and they get to still play with other kids. What better way to learn socialization? Schools constantly ask the kids in the classrooms to quiet down and they very much so squash the kids natural curiosities. So socialization is definitely most valued in a homeschool setting. It’s a sad thing actually. Every single one of my friends children’s will always share their school griefs and anxieties and so often wish they could homeschool too. 😩
My mum homeschooling my brothers, there now 11 and 16 but when they were learning to read, my mum would show them Geraldine the giraffe on TH-cam and there's an app I think. She's really funny and my brother learnt all the sounds and words so fast, maybe that could also be a good tool ❤
