Easily. I know its fake and I still find it hard to watch all that blood, Austin could move like a butterfly then still. It was just incredible to watch. An Absolutely incredible Match, IMO The Best theres ever been. And I watched Savage Steamboat. Ive watched all the "gretest" matches. Still, this one is it.

Oh man he basically explained why the attitude era happened ,I don't know if anyone else caught that ..he basically said the crowd changing from little kids and families in the early 90s to frat boys and mid 20 males in the late 90s really explains how the attitude era happened
Bret Hart made the Attitude Era with Steve Austin. No one else. Everything else that happened was an accident. Vince thought he was the babyface when Bret was forced out. It wasn’t until he started getting booed mercilessly that a lightbulb went off and Steve was already set up through the hard work of himself and Bret to be the natural protagonist. Storytelling is dead in wrestling and that’s why it sucks now. And the guys who do get dumped on for being old school or hard to work with - or stealing the spotlight from a less talented but better connected person.
I've recently gone through a binge from 1990 to 1993 (not an easy thing to do. It's almost impossible to find non-PPV WWE content from back then, and what you can find is small pieces doctored to oblivion) And I started to see this shift in the first couple of months of Monday Night Raw. The larger shows, Superstars and Wrestling Challenge, there was more rooting for the faces, but on Raw, most of them were rooting for the heels. It was an interesting dynamic. Randy Savage addressed it at one point, saying something about how they managed to get ALL of Ric Flair's fans in the building somehow.
I think the folks like me, who were fans as kids in the 80 grew up and kept watching. The product changed because a major part of the core audience grew up into the frat boys.
I could listen to Bret speak about wrestling and wrestling story’s for hours. 👍🏻

It's funny how a last minute match becomes one of Wrestlemania's greatest bouts.
Not many scenes as iconic as Austin in the sharpshooter with blood streaming down his face. That CEMENTED Austin as the bad ass anti-hero that everyone f***ing LOVED.

Bret understood that without an opponent people cared about, you don’t have a match. If you go into it trying to bury the guy and squash him, nobody will care. Wrestling is about getting people to care about 2 guys in a predetermined wrestling match and pay money to watch it. At its core, that’s all it is. Over months, they laid out perfectly who Bret and Steve were and why they had a beef with each other. And in one match, after building up Steve already as babyface, they did a full double turn. That’s Canadian style wrestling. Long term storytelling. Bret gets criticized because he wasn’t a big trash talker, but his promos in 1997 were fantastic. He made Americans angry because he told them the truth about themselves. And Steve was able to be the resistance to that without being a flag waiving idiot.
As a Austin fan I can say that him working with Bret Hart got his career to take off let's not forget the McMahon Austin feud was born as a result of what happened during the 1997 Bret Hart feud. Bret really helped Austin make the next step to be not only a main event guy but eventually the top guy in the business. It started with the Bret Hart Stone Cold Steve Austin feud.
Also, Bret Hart was the first wrestler to start feuding with McMahon in early 97 which also made it easier for McMahon to transition into his new role. Without Bret Hart there probably would have been no Mr McMahon

It’s insane cause this is something that really should not have worked but it did, truly a once in a lifetime kind of feud.
For my lifetime, it was the very underrated Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho Feud, nothing felt more real than that. You could feel Shawn’s vulnerability but also Chris’s confusion, it was great storytelling.
Which one are you talking about, the 2003 one with the surprise Rumble elimination, or the 2008 one where Jericho punched Shawn's wife ? It seems like you're talking about the latter, but it's universally loved for some reason, definitely not underrated.
@@Erlewyn The 2008 one, but I like to think that the 2003 is connected to it as a prelude of what was to come. The reason why I call it underrated is cause whenever iconic feuds are talked about, it’s almost never mentioned.
When people think of iconic feuds for Jericho they bring up his Owens feud or his inclusion in the HHH and Rock feud, which are great don’t get me wrong but not on the level of the Jericho vs Michaels 2008 feud.
Bret doesn't get enough credit for helping make Stone Cold.

The King of the Ring 96 put Austin on the map but this match put Austin over the top.
Definitely gets huge credit from Stone Cold himself.

We appreciate Bret and his promos and all contributions too wrestling now. I always did and when he left it was just hard to watch him on wcw. One of the best to ever do it. A true champion that mother. who hated wrestling allowed me to support as a supported because Bret was great human
It is funny how things turned out differently and we got Bret and Austin at WM13. I know Bret wanted more and the title involved, but that match is really as good as people say it is. 1997 really was a great year in wrestling. Easily the best match of the year. Wish I could go back and watch it again with no memory. It had you completely glued to the match and the feel of the storyline.
Someone else needs to do these titles. He didn't shoot on the double-turn, he shot on everything else.

Both Steve and Bret talk about how they basically put together that match with a few bullet points in the ring a few hours before the show. Bret pitched the idea to blade Steve in the Sharpshooter spot. And Steve is calling the match in the ring for the majority of the time if you go back and watch.
Both guys talk about it together in depth in a podcast with Edge and Christian a few years ago, great listen.

Bret, you did killer promos, I always paid attention, I loved this moment in your career.
Yeah, Shawn hated losing and was known for throwing toddler tantrums. One time, the undertaker was waiting at the entryway of the arena putting his gloves on and had to threaten Shawn to make sure he dropped the belt without incident that night.
Love hearing Bret tell great stories.

If you don't know Bret will tell you hes God's gift to wrestling. Anything that didnt go his way or hes criticized for is someone else's fault bc Bret is the epitome of virtue and always right. Bret has actually gotten to be increasingly narcissistic and cun+y by the day.
Bret really gives off the feeling of a veteran who never grew up.
Like Shawn, Randy all these people have been dicks early in their career, even Triple H politiced his way into top, but slowly they have kinda matured into the veterans who just enjoy the craft and want to give back to the business whenever they can. It's not so much about 'I ' or 'me' for them anymore.
Bret on the other hand, it seems like the bitterness of having to retire early hindered his growth as a person and still to this day he's stuck in the era of 'I could do everything' and I should have been given more.
Which sucks cause almost everyone does recognize him as one of the goats. Hardly anyone who wrestles today doesn't see him as his ideal. But this Chris Jericho-ism of I, I and I really makes him seem like a person desperate for your attention.
If you know anything about Bret's childhood growing up, it is very very easy to understand why he has this personality type. Would suggest watching his documentary.
Then there was Goldberg ending his career which cost him something in the region of $16m in unrealised money.
Anyone with lesser strength in character would not be sitting up there today talking somewhat coherently like Bret.
If throwing a little bit of shade here and there is the only biproduct of what he's overcome, then most would take it.
Maturity is also empathy and understanding of others.........

All of the people you mentioned are either still working for the company or are able to get back in the ring, so the comparison doesn’t make any sense. Of course they talk about “now” and the bigger picture for the company. They’re still very much involved. Bret knew one thing and that’s how to wrestle. He’s not a wrestling coach or teacher. He is not part of a creative team. He’s basically Rocky Balboa. And when they invite him to these events it’s only because they want to ask him about the past. The only reason you’re watching is because you’re interested in hearing him talk about the past.
He has an opinion on a topic from the past just as we all do. He never changed that opinion. He rarely thinks about those things, but that’s what everyone asks him about son it’s what you hear.
Imagine ten years ago when you were in high school a drunk ran you over. Broke both your legs. Your plans to go to college on a football scholarship were dashed and you still occasionally feel the pain, but you’ve managed to build a happy life for yourself. It was big news in your small town when it happened. You think that guy’s an asshole, right? It’s been 10 years. You rarely ever think about the guy. But every time someone sees you and recognizes you from the old high school days, they ask you about the incident. They ask you about the guy who ran you over (he was also a popular football player). You answer “that guy was an asshole.” They’ll come away thinking, “Boy, you sure are bitter.” No, you’re not bitter. You just think that from the encounters you had with that guy, he was an asshole. He may still be an asshole today.
In Bret’s case he knew two assholes. One of them has since apologized and they’ve become friendly and actually wish each other well but their paths rarely cross as they live two different lives. The other avoids him like the plague. He’s not bitter, but he’s not going to lie when you ask him about it.

It's what I love about that match, they weren't diving off the top rope or doing anything overly acrobatic, it felt like a true fight.

Greatest double turn in the history of the business, without a doubt. Shawn Michaels losing his smile honestly did Bret a favour, continuing the feud with Austin definitely created a more iconic moment.
So basically Bret and Steve turned lemons and made lemonade with that match. The style was so different between them when you compare Survivor Series to Wrestlemania 13.
For my money, the greatest match of all-time.
My second favourite match of all time. The complete storyline was absolutely outstanding. Bret and Steve gave us their A game in a flawless classic that can't be praised enough. Bravo!!

First ever Hell in a Cell at Badd Blood. Michael's vs Undertaker. I'll never ever forget being 16 watching that and I'm 43 today... that match still hits me the same. Total perfection!

Bret and Vince went at it in a mini feud that really was the blueprint for the Austin McMan feud. That’s where the “I’m the best there is best there was and best there ever will be” comes from
Definitely one of my favorite matches of all time. And certainly in my top 2 or 3 of WrestleMania matches.
Their Survivor Series match was really great also.

No disrespect to Steve Austin, who is my favourite all-time wrestler, but Bret was awesome! He was the sort of guy who could have a 5-star match with a broom stick.
WMXIII was definitely one of the best matches that both wrestlers had. Simply wonderful to watch.

Only Bret could think of this kind of finish for the submission match between him and Stone Cold. He was aware that Stone Cold wasn’t a technical wrestler so he suggest that the pair would brawl rather than wrestle. Austin do not have to win, all he needs to do is to prolong match as long as he could. The attack on Austin after the match was all planned by Bret to performed the double turn. After Ken Shamrock restrained Bret with a suplex, Bret actually wanted to have a go at Shamrock but he didn’t coz he was well aware of who he is working with and didn’t want to get involved with Shamrock. So he opted to back down, making the fans turn on Bret. Bret almost botched his lines when he high-five a few fans but suddenly remembered he was suppose to turn heel so he quickly made an obscene gesture to another bunch of fans to get his heel turning storyline back on track on the way back to the dressing room.
I love Bret Hart💕! A champion you can be proud of and a great role model for the kids that grew up watching him like me.

The greatest wrestling match ever put together in my opinion and the greatest finish executed. It helped take SCSA to superstardom and the biggest box office attraction in history.
Everyone knows of Austin/Hart’s match at WM XIII, but their match at Survivor Series in 1996 was amazing!
Hart/Austin is probably my favorite feud of all time.
I just looked up which one Wresltemania 13 was again, and its like one of the most iconic Austin matches of all time being in a sharp shooter face covered in blood, glad Hitman took the baught

I remember watching the broken skull sessions interview with Bret hart, Austin said “I never beat you right” And Bret said “No” and started laughing like it was a real fight. Just goes to show this guy took it way damn serious.
I took it as just good natured ribbing…Austin did win by DQ at the April 97 in your house but ya, Austin never beat Bret clean…if Bret was champ at Wrestlemania 14, that would’ve been the perfect time to do it

He passed out and the referee (Ken Shamrock) ended the match and named Bret the winner.

Great match but i cant put it as the GOAT Wm match because of how poorly it drew. Wm 13 has the lowest ppv buyrate of any Wrestlemania ever. I feel all time great matchss should both shoscase great ring work AND draw money

As good as Macho Man/Steamboat was, it didn't draw for the simple fact that it was never the attraction.
