Stoke fan here… we’ve got a mute board who are so disconnected with the fans. It’s divided between fans, but they make disastrous decisions from player spendings to having their mates in board positions. We make no turnaround on players, no profit from talent, everyone who’s a success elsewhere becomes a flop at Stoke and vice versa. On top of this, they’ve already chosen Norwich’s head coach (not their manager) with no managerial experience at all as the manager favourite within an hour of sacking Schumacher. The club is in the bin. They’ve shat on their fans. I genuinely am starting to dislike our club.

As someone who grew up in Stoke during the Premier League era it needs to be said that so many fans were never satisfied with finishing in the top half/comfortable mid table of the Premier League after the initial few Pulis years.
He was forced out for his style of play despite his overachievements year after year.
Then they were never satisfied with Hughes for not taking them to the next level.
Greed is a toxic thing in football and this big section of the fanbase are getting exactly what they deserve

Stoke fan here! We’ve been stuck in this cycle for ages. It’s basically because different managers want different squads and they never seem to gel. Because of a culmination of young inexperienced players, old players past their peak & bang average players that we overpay for its meant we are where we are. Now it’s looking as if we are focusing on utilising youth and we are supposedly acquiring a coach to help the above. To put us into a nutshell, we’ve lost our identity and we are a sinking ship without a captain…

It's mad to think as you go by decades, the PL looks so much different every time. Kids these days don't remember when likes of Portsmouth, Charlton, Bolton, Coventry, were PL main stays. Years later, you got likes of Reading, QPR, Sunderland, Swansea, Stoke.
Who knows, by time we reach 2030, some teams in league two right now, would be PL mainstays, While one of the current PL clubs could fall down like how teams like Stoke basically have.

Right now, you wouldn't rule out Wrexham making it. Afterall, are they any smaller as a club than Luton ? I guess the difference is that Luton were an established top division club from 1982 to 1993, where as Wrexham never have been in the top league - yet.

Bournemouth and Brentford have probably assumed that role of relatively small clubs rising to become part of the PL furniture for a generation of fans. When I was at school it was Coventry and Wimbledon that seemed like they'd been there forever and always would be, even though in Wimbledon's case they'd only joined the League in the 1970s.

As a fan of 60 years, I think my team have been drifting since relegation from the top flight. The team was more fun to watch in League One under Gudjon Thordasson. I was shocked when the owner was interviewed at the start of the season and in response to the question what is your hope for the season, he said “a good season.” It lacked any vision or ambition. I can’t see things changing without these attributes and the loyalty of a very passionate fan base, is being tested to destruction.

Daniel Storey wrote a piece about QPR and he said, I am paraphrasing, that a monied, benign ownership is not leadership. Many of these clubs don't have leadership because they employ people in the boardroom of no real worth and then create a structure that doesn't allow a manager to bring that leadership. If the Coates family are serious, one of them needs to dedicate their time full-time to the club.

The only reasons we’ve been able to spend anything since Michael O’Neill took charge 4 years ago was because he balanced our books.

The only thing about schumachers sacking that surprised me was that it didn't happen at the end of last season.
Stoke never give a manager time to get things sorted, sometimes you have to just bite the bullet and accept a rough season or two so the manager can get things exactly as he wants it.
Players get used to how a manager wants them to play then the board sack him and things have to start all over again with a new gaffer who wants things done a different way....
But stoke will be stoke. They will poach another manager with the offer of big money, spend some dosh on some players and then 6 months down the line sack him claiming the club isn't going in the direction they want and then start the cycle all over again....
