28:18 "This is our robot: Corkscrew, based on, obviously, a corkscrew.
It has a rotating weapon, which rotates"
Yes thank you I feel much more informed

    Dominator 2! My favourite robot!
I wish it got to fight one of my other favourites, X-Terminator :P

This is one of favourite heats, this had a good lineup of different designed robots.

Derek's an interesting machine - that was clearly not a bad flipper but coming from an industrial estate, and if I'm not mistaken, it won the best Engineered award? I think we found the predecessor to Rapid - exclusively in the show for the CNC Porn, which is why the House Robots were called off as soon as it was counted out - seriously, if this was any other competitor, it would have been mangled. The producers must really like machinework.
Kronic 2, slowly beginning to look more like its' indirect descendant, Apollo. Slow and sluggish though, when the best flippers (Chaos 2, Firestorm) are speedy, nimble and agile.
13 Black... gonna say it, got shafted. Yes, perhaps Corkscrew did more damage, but 13 Black was better driven, more aggressive, and kept coming back at the Scottish machine. Judging by the pained expression on the judges' face, perhaps it was told to them to let Corkscrew through. Hmm.
I'm a huge X-Terminator fan but they got appallingly lucky they were up against a designated fodder bot. In direct opposition to Derek, X-T barely got a go in before Bash and Shunt ganged up on Team Death's machine. It must have been a dull show too, how did they get from the top of the arena to the bottom in a single cut? Looked like their scoop was digging into the ground and preventing them driving forward.
Watching S5 again just proves once again how flawed S9 was - a fight that went the distance, and was exciting because of the back and forth nature rather than one massive hit for unlimited replay potential. I suppose a good equivalent might be Thor vs Shockwave from S8.
Was hoping we got more of an explanation on Marlon Pritchard's channel, but seems he said all that needed to be said - Corkscrew outlasted him. Michael Davies has some knowledge of weapons though, I think the axe was a nasty bit of work, and pretty well aimed compared to some drivers. Didn't need to wait for a good hit after all. Also, called it about the scoop, hence why it had the plate on the front instead.
Gallant losers, Corkscrew. For the dodgy fight they had, I'm going to give them that they took a fight loss very well, better than most kids did at Robot Wars. These are the sorts of young 'uns I like to see in the wars, not the entitled brats like on Fighting Torque/Hippobotamus' team.

From what I recall regarding Xterminator, they swapped out for smaller batteries to keep in the weight limit, and they packed in vs Corkscrew.

Looks like right after the Refbot de-wedged the Xterminator/Immortalis, that the Immortal went straight up the arena and crashed into the corner where Sgt. Bash kept them, while the camera was focused on XT fighting the Refbot.

    Roll on heat F.
This one really is stacked in terms of bots. 4 bots which are are past or future series semi finalists, and two of my all time favourite bots too.
It's gotta be said, despite its upgrades, D2 was quite a it less impressive here compared to how strong it was in Series 4. The axe didn't seem to have the same speed behind it as it did last series, though it looked significantly weightier. Nonetheless, it was more than a match for Derek, and it was magnificently driven too.
KING B! One of my two favourite bots of all time. This was a bloody impressive performance from them too. Their ramming spikes caused genuine damage to Kronic, and the immense pushing power of the bot was really shown off well. Hopefully King B gets in to Series 10 so we can see this kind of display once again.
Corkscrew and 13 Black, though both in this bout are shadows of their future selves. I never really got why 13 Black was so highly rated really, but they looked far more impressive than Corkscrew here. That said, their disc breaking down probably clinched it for Corkscrew, so I can't complain too much.
This one really was a forgone conclusion. X-Terminator was hugely improved from last series, and Immortalis is your usual Team Death calibre of bot. Not much to say really.
:( big fan of both of these bots but seeing King B getting beaten down still saddens me. With a flat-topped bot like King B axes are always gonna be a major threat, and this proves it. As I said before though D2 really didn't seem to have the penetrating power it had last series. King B's top is only polycarbonate, ad yet it couldn't really go through fully except for when it hit between the forks and the frame.
X-Terminator's axe seemed WAY more powerful than D2's in this fight Very impressive throughout the fight but Corkscrew just would not die, and was very tough for XT to hit, and eventually it just seemed to wear itself out. A real surprise this one.
The heat final was really a forgone conclusion, though thankfully we've had a lot of good fights leading up to it. D2's steep wedge is just perfect for tipping a top heavy bot like Corkscrew over, and it did so perfectly. Reminded me of Roadblock against Killertron back in series 1. D2 may have been less impressive than last series, but is still a well deserving series semi finalist.
All in all, a great episode. Lots of excellent bots, only 1 truly crap one, and a number of great battles.

Heat H also had 6 all time if you count Axe Awe as part of the Iron Awe family of robots. Big Cheese, Axe Awe, Behemoth, Crustacean, Supernova, and RoboChicken

    • @robertwalpole5376
      @robertwalpole5376 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Series 8, Heat A had 7 eventual heat finalists: Razer (S4, 5 & 6), Nuts (S10, as Nuts 2), Carbide (S8-10), Behemoth (S2-4, S8, S10), Bonk (S7, if counting Mute), Terrorhurtz (S6) & Kill-E-Crank-E (S3-5 when counting Pussycat). This surpasses the record. And if you count the Robotic Soccer final too, then so did The General, meaning that every robot in that heat either had reached or would reach the Finals at some point, in some form.

Xterminator vs Immortalis was weird. Xterminator spent much of its time either stuck upside down or bashing Refbot while the house thugs ganged up on Immortalis. I kinda think Xterminator sorta won, probably. Maybe. Weird.
Dominator vs King B - looks to be a good contest. But what the HELL was Shunt doing in the middle of the arena trying to push King B into its corner? Anyway, King B was just unable to make any impression on the toughened wedge shape of Dominator.
Corkscrew - a little lucky to defeat 13 Black, I thought. But it also did very well against Xterminator and what the HELL was Shunt doing chasing Xterminator all over the arena...? Shunt should be cancelled, permanently. Corkscrew won, notwithstanding an inop weapon, it was close, but I can't help feeling Xterminator might have won if it wasn't for BLOODY Shunt. Corkscrew is certainly quite fast and much more controllable than its shape would suggest.
So we didn't get an axe battle for the final. Corkscrew did prove remarkably resistant to axes, including Shunt's, but Dominator's wedge shape was the end for Corkscrew, that couldn't right itself.

Corkscrew is closer to the pit. The Heat F final should of end when Corkscrew is in the pit of oblivion, but instead, Sir Killalot just have to take Corkscrew away from the pit.

It also shows the clear outphasing of the lighterweight type bots with not active weapons like a flipper, a pneumatic spike, an axe, a hammer, etc. Just some front spikes and wholefully lacking mass to transfer enough impact force into the enemy that almost all have a very angular armouring so even IF they end up hitting in fast and direct, they get deflected by a majority of the power since it hits the armour at that angle.
