    My grandma died yesterday. This song was number 1 on her day of birth. Never knew it until today. I love it.

    My mom sang this song to me as a lullaby in the early '43-'44 when I was a tot and my dad was overseas in the war. The song came out in '31, they were married in '34. I guess it reminded her of their courting days. Such a sweet song. Like my mom. May dad lived to be 94, my mom 96. And now I'm pushin 80. Keep singing!

      Did your dad have any stories from the war? Was he in the pacific?

    • @JonathanHorwitz
      @JonathanHorwitz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bery3392 Yes, Bery, he was in the Pacific. He was a Flight surgeon in the Navy, attached to a Marine fighter-bomber squadron. All the stories he told were funny quirky stories, never about the battles or what he had to do or saw. We talked about that when I got back from Vietnam in '66. It takes a lot of healing after coming back from a war. Wars are tragic.

      @@JonathanHorwitz Wow, all my respect to you and your father. Couldn't imagine what it felt like to be so far away from home. Honestly, I could sit around for hours, listening to the things you've got to say about Vietnam.

    • @JonathanHorwitz
      @JonathanHorwitz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bery3392 Thank You, Bery. Because of my experiences in that sad, sad and terrible war I became a pacifist. War solves nothing. It only makes new problems. The USA lost 282,000 young soldiers (mostly under 25 years old), the Vietnamese (north and south) over 1.1million, and over 2 million civilian deaths. These figures say nothing of the lives that were ruined, small children maimed and/or left orphan. It was so sad to see. Our camp was next to a orphanage. Tragic. I returned 33 years later and traveled with a Buddhist monk and adopted young woman. Now she is a Buddhist nun. What I learned is that life is not easy and that love, not war will heal the wounds. Take care of yourself, Bery, remember to smile and give a hand to those who need it. I'm 80 years old now. I've never regretted giving a had, but my unkind acts wake me up at night. May you life be blessed. May you never experience war. Jonathan

    The Spanish says "Until the Last Little Moonbeam". As far as I remember learning, these songs were popular about 11 or 12 years after the implementation of daylight saving time.

    The lyrics are really silly and sappy, so one might wonder why it was so popular. But the tune grows on you. I recently found the sheet music and I'm learning it on the organ.

    There oughta be a moonlight-savin' time
    So I could love that man of mine
    Till the birdies wake and chime good morning
    There oughta be a law in clover time
    To keep that moon out over time
    To keep each lovers lane in thyme till dawining
    You better hurry up get busy today
    You'd better croon the tune
    To the man on the moon and here's what I'd say

      @@nohaylamujer Strictly speaking, we’re on "moonlight saving time" now. Nothing can make the day or night last longer, but Daylight Saving Time moves the sunrise one hour later by the clock, which is the best we can do. 🙂

    Oh dear, the Lombardos.... Even in 1931 they were an anachronism. Unbelievable that this kind of band survived for another 40 years without any basic change of style (actually, they got worse) and had (and still has) a loyal following. So no, not all nostalgic music is good and worth listening to any more.
