      Dear HiddenHistory:
      🇪🇷 1. there was no country called "Ethiopia" in 1875. Rather, there were fragmented autonomous sovereign kingdoms in that part of the world wit their respective names. Keep in mind, the so called country with the name "Ethiopia" was formed in 1906. FACTS.
      🇪🇷 2. the area that was invaded by the "Egyptians" was "Medri Bahri kingdom of Hamasien" (aka modern day Eritrea), and it was an autonomous sovereign kingdom at that time with its own king and its own army.
      🇪🇷 3. the Egyptians were defeated by King Weldemikael of Medri Bahri kingdom of Hamasien (current day Eritrea).
      🇪🇷 Therefore, please get your facts together and don't feed us this "Afrocentric / Eurocentric" driven bs narrative. If you want to learn facts, go visit the Eritrean Museum in Asmara, and archeologists as well as historians with PhD credentials would be happy to educate you with the truth backed by scientific and tangible factual evidence. Your "cultural appropriation" towards Eritrea will not be tolerated and will be reported to TH-cam as a "hate speech". Long live Eritrea 🇪🇷.

    Damn ! Ethiopians have no chill whatsoever; I can't believe they fought Italians, Sudanese and Egyptians in such a small period without getting conquered.

    • @darkzi1431
      @darkzi1431 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The Sudanese mahadist chose not to stay, ethiopians make it seem that they never got defeated. The mahadist plundered the heartland of Ethiopia in Gondar and destroyed every church in that city. They also killed Yohannis IV and decapitated him, you don't hear of these by them tho

    • @darkzi1431
      @darkzi1431 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Tamrat Zeyede My point is that ethiopia was not untouchable as it is made to seem. The Sudanese didn't come with the intent to conquer but punish as they collaborated with the British/Egyptians who were our enemy and who we was fighting at the time.

    • @darkzi1431
      @darkzi1431 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Tamrat Zeyede I respect your honesty and unbiasedness. I have come across many Ethiopians denying the fact they were defeated at gallabat and that menelik somehow killed Yohannis. And you are right we could have been a force to recon with, unfortunately we had many enemies. It was the turko-egyptian British forces against the Sudanese, and the battle of gallabat I believe was a retaliatory response by the Sudanese because the Ethiopians evacuated the British soldiers in kasala. I am not denying the fact that mahadist have set their eyes on imperialism and conquering as they bit more than they can chew, attempting to conquer Egypt and ethiopian while having fought alot of battles already against the British. Anyway have a nice day bro

    • @darkzi1431
      @darkzi1431 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @TOMPMATHEWOFFICIAL But if you won the battle how can you loose it. How did the mahadist decimate the entire ethiopian army at that battle. Even killed nobles close to Yohannis. If you was winning and had more soldiers, explain to me this, how do you let a loosing force kill most of your soldiers, generals,.steal your kings carcass, behead and bring back to Khartoum. Sounds to me like the ethiopians lost

    Ethiopians have actually had a couple more battles with the Egyptians Emperor Seyfe Arad moved against Egypt after the imprisonment of the Alexandrian Patriarch. Emperor Dawit II (Dawit I in foreign sources)reached Aswan in upper Egypt causing much havoc. Also Yohannes IV's army may have exceeded 70,000 because the conflict was depicted as a religious battle and men from all over the country had come to protect their country (aside from the imperial army which was as you said largely from tigray and Hamasien )

Read any of Ezana's inscriptions after his conversion to Christianity, and look at the name he uses for the state. "Ethiopia". During the middle ages, the Kebra Nagast was written as an attempt, in part, to tie the medieval Ethiopian state to the Aksumite state... guess which name it uses in reference to the realm? This notion was further ensconced in the Book of Aksum -- which alludes to a legendary king "Ityopia", from which the text argued the name of the state originated. The idea that overaching empire and state wdre called anything other than "Ethiopia" in indigenous sources, is against the history of the matter. Muslims (Jabartis, etc) may have used the term "Al Habasha" or "Habasha" or "Habash"... but that is IT. NO WHERE here am I making the claim that modern Ethiopia then has right over Eritrea simply because (part of) modern Eritrea was historically part of an older state that shared the same name, "Ethiopia"... so if you and all the other people spamming my comments are mad because you think I'm saying that -- I'm not. @@Rico18777 ironic you're the one telling me I don't know anything. Are you really telling me the people in Ethiopian Empire only spoke Amharic? The same empire whose church used Ge'ez as a liturgical language, whose northern populations (in Tigray) spoke Tigrayan, whose realm included Oromos, Agaws, Afars, and so on? There were no Gurages in the empire? Hararis and other merchants did not sometimes emigrate there? It was just an Amharinnya speaking state through and through according to you, and you believe everyone in it must have been amhara, otherwise they were not in it. What an egregious belief.
      Also, are you the one mad at me for using the name "Ethiopia"? Even if you want to call it something else... The point is that there was a state in the area that had people speaking all these languages. It was ethnically diverse. So why is it important that you bring up languages? You realize the Roman empire had people speaking more languages than Latin, right? Arabs, Aramaic speakers, Greek speakers, Germanic speakers, Etruscans, Iberians... It had emperors from Africa and the Middle East.
      Anyway, my sources are in the description; I always cite them. Maybe also check "Ethiopia, Nubia and the Crusading world", and "Medieval Ethiopian Kingship, Craft, and Diplomacy with Latin Europe." Both texts discuss the name "Ethiopia", if I recall. Hey, it might even be talked about in the "Handbook to Medieval Ethiopia and Eritrea". I haven't gone through the whole thing though to see if there's a chapter on it there.

      The whole point is, You can not refer to "Ethiopia" when speaking about Yohannes or any other king, because there was no such thing at that time, you won't find the word in any ancient Ge'ez, Amharic,Tigrinya and Tigre languages, and it is only those languages and their people that ruled Axumite empire, NO OTHER people!!. Ge'ez was the official language of Axum, Tigrinya and Tigre have more similarity to it than Amharic (Although related), everything points 👉 to Tigray and Eritrea. Even in your documentary you will notice there was no such empire at the time of Tewdros, just a bunch of kings trying to claim power by force and build their own new axum and pretend it is still the same empire, which has failed miserably from then to now, hence they still fighting now, this is not some new war that just started, LMAO I don't remember when the last time there was peace throughout the whole Modern Ethiopia/Eritrea. The real Axum empire (Which is heavily Tigrinya ppl) ended around the 10th century, The Agaw picked it up in 13th century and called it Zagwe dynasty 🧐.

      HiddenHistory They were under Yohannes jurisdiction just before the battle of the battle with the Mahdist in Sudan. At that point Ras Alula was governor/chief of the region. That was after he tricked and imprisoned the previous leader Ras Woldmichael. This caused other issues as Solomon's son in law escaped imprisonment and helped the Italians in their ambitions to colonise Eritrea and other parts of East Africa. Obviously at the time the son in law only wanted revenge and didn't realise the motives the Italians had in mind. After the Mahdist killed Yohannes in battle, Ras Alula left the Eritrean region that he was governing defenceless. Thus Bahta Hagos took over and tried to raise and army to defeat the Italians. After 3 or 4 battles he died in battle (Hagos). That marked the end of any leaders within Eritrean territory. Italians would later be defeated by Menelik in Adawa but the Italians were already weakened allowing the Ethiopians to dominate them. And Eritrea would become one of Italy's first colonies in Africa.

      HiddenHistory "The Scottish traveler James Bruce reported in 1770 that Medri Bahri was a distinct political entity from Abyssinia, noting that the two territories were frequently in conflict.
      The kingdom was eventually occupied in 1879, when Ras Alula seized control of the region and imprisoned Woldemichael Solomon, the last Bahr Negash. Alula, as governour of Mareb Mellash under the sovereignty of the Ethiopian Empire, organized the resistance against the steadily enroaching Italians and eventually even defeated them at Dogali in 1887. Woldemichael Solomon was sent to the Amba Salama prison with his son Masfen and his son-in-law Kaffal Goffar. However, Kaffal, the son-in-law of Woldemichael Solomon continued the rebellion against the Ethiopian Empire by siding with the Italians in 1885. In 1888, Woldemichael Solomon had tried to urge his son-in-law to bring the Italians up to the highlands. By 1889 Alula was, however, forced to retreat to Tigray and the region that once constituted the kingdom of Medri Bahri fell to the Italians, who proclaimed it as a part of Italian Eritrea in 1890.[15][16]"

      Tesfai Mesfin he reported this in 1770. this video takes place in the 1870s. That traveler is not relevant to this discussion, given that im discussing 19th century history, not 18th century history, and yohannes had control of these territories in the 1870s.

      @@teddyissak2720 🤣🤣🤣Cut it kid do you expect us to call Somali Ethiopia this is Ethiopia and the fighters are Ethiopia, from different part of the country, There was no eritrea during this time period. Eritrea is a modern country spawned from an an Italian colony named after the ancient 'Erythrean' sea. The region of land that now forms Eritrea was split into multiple political entities, including Beni Amer pastoralists, Bogos highlands, coastal cities like Massawa, and inland provinces like Hamacien.
      It is true that the Ottomans had on and off control over Massawa for a while, but they seldom if ever extended their influence into inland provinces, which sometimes enjoyed independent under the Medri Bahri kingdom, and sometimes were subject to the will of the Ethiopian empire farther south. By the reign of Yohannes though, the kingdom was put under indirect and then direct Ethiopian control through Ras Alula. Please stop arguing false history.
