When I was 12 years old (56 years ago) I fell head over heels for Davy Jones. My first crush and I adored him. He was the cutest, sweetest guy. I bugged my mother for every teen magazine that had his pic on the cover. In those days the teen mags had two page, sometimes four page, posters inside of the featured artist. Davy was soooo popular. The walls of my room were plastered with his face. The hightlight of my young life was seeing him in concert in my home town with The Monkees. I thought my heart would burst out of my chest. Aw, to be young again.

He was not the glue. He was he star. Of course he made the show work. What might be worth mentioning if some lower profile person, like Mike say, was the glue that made the show work. I don't know, Davy's star was very bright and the show may have worked just on his power alone, but really it was an ensemble cast and all four made majorly contributed to the show.

Walter Koenig needed to thank Davy Jones for his Star Trek career as he was cast as Chekov because he resembled Jones and the producers of Star Trek wanted to attract a younger audience.

They say they were artificial, contrived, manufactured. Then he breaks into that cute dance step, with no notice or planning, that would become his signature.

I can tell from reading through the comments section that everyone hates the interviewer. The guy asking him the questions is series creator and producer Bob Rafelson. Some of the questions he's asking may seem a bit rude and abrasive but it's all being done deliberately to gauge Davy's reactions and how he handled it. They needed to find out if Davy was sensitive about being short because it was a question that was obviously going to be coming up a lot in real interviews down the line. Plus a great many jokes on the show would be about him being short. Say what you will but the guy knew what he was doing. He made the Monkees stars. (He died in July 2022)
