I saw this as a commercial. I love the long form tutorial format. I really felt like I wasn't wasting my time watching a 6 minute advertisement. The production was informative, entertaining, and mentioned Lowes just often enough to reinforce your brand. Kudos!
number 4, been wanting to try this ourselves but would rather see you do it instead :)
ThreadBanger "it's threadbanger!?!? " maybe you guys can be sponsored by lowes?
ThreadBanger weird. I was thinking a few minutes ago how I wish you and Rob did more diy's like this lol I think I'd feel better watchin yall do shit like this bc you keep it 100%
Man, your work cant be described in words. If there is something more than excellence, that is what it is. Please do 1 or 3.
Lowe's Home Improvement
I will be longing to see your next project
Love the rich green color! Fabulous. Nice touch adding the desk.
The bookshelves turned out great! Good idea on the lighting too! We vote for #3 next, the classic trim..
I'm laying here at 6am on a Saturday binge watching you. I'm left amazed by your creativity. I may try to convince my husband that your terracotta wall design can be used to create ocean waves as we have a beach home in FL. Or I will look for a large canvas to create a similar look with a less permanent solution. I was amazed by the time you took to paint a gazillion wood slices when you could have spray painted them before hand. And this tutorial is genius. Cannot wait to watch the other episodes you have created. I'm glad we own a miter saw, a nail gun and a ton of other tools because you are giving me inspiration! Thank you!
Haha, that's great to hear, Mellissa!! I love the ocean waves idea. Somebody also had the thought of doing an ombré color technique with that design, to simulate the water depth.
1 or 3 I can't decide...
I love the result in this video and the idea to just leave some space for a small table. Sometimes it can be so easy to create something so cool.
Yeah, the removable shelves add lots of customizability. You could put a cozy little reading chair in the corner, a flat screen TV in the center, a little coffee bar somewhere...tons of options!
I’ve watched so many videos on how to do this and yours is the only one that helped me! I actually feel like I can do this now, thank you!
If anyone plans on filling the shelves with books be prepared for the pine to bow under the weight. Two easy things you can do: One is to flip the shelves over and let them bend back. Seriously. Or use the same face frame material to trim the front of each shelf which will also help reinforce it (but you can't flip it). This will help but it's best to not overload pine and keep these shelves more open. Nice, simple project, Daniel; well done.
Maybe reducing the shelf length to 20” would fix this? The point of building a floor to ceiling bookcase is to hold a wall-full of books, after all. Next it needs a rolling ladder.
I didn't think I would like the bookshelf idea but I ended up really liking it especially with the accent lighting. My vote for the next one is number 4. Love the series and I hope it continues!
I REALLY love this series. Exactly what I'm looking for. I love your energy, and I love how fun the videos are. The editing and production is great as well. Concise, informative and fun. A++
2! 2! 2! I love making string art pieces as they're quick and super easy to change out when I'm feeling a design change, so I would LOVE to see how that can be translated into an entire wall!
Very intrigued by #4, so that gets my vote. This project turned out so cool!!!! Seeing if I can adapt it for my rental since every little nail/screw in the wall is something I'd need to fix later
This one is a liiiittle more renter friendly, since once the frame is secure, you're really not installing anything else into the drywall. If you do end up trying it, I recommend leaving any screws or pocket holes unfilled so that you can unscrew them easily later (vs. ripping them out of the wall). Just hide them with books 😉
The added lighting was a nice touch to make this look rich.
Wow! That looks GREAT! You made it look so easy... I really like the light feature and mini desk w/stool!
All 4 options look fantastic, but I think I would love to see #3 as I have always wanted to do something like that in my dining room. And I'm definitely bookmarking this one for a potential future library
Love it. Thanks for demonstrating how easy this project was.
I plan to build bookshelves with doors and a Murphy bed in my extra room. This room will be my guest room/office. I would like to see you create something to that effect. Thanks
Ahh, Murphy beds are just so cool. I think this design would accommodate one quite nicely!
OMG, I been putting off building a book shelf until I saw this. This is what I am going to build. Wow. I wish I saw this video years ago.
I love every single one of these wall videos! Each wall is unique, interesting, fun, and incredibly beautiful!! I'd like to see #3 next but I also think the string wall would be super cool. Can't wait to see the next one!!!
Glad you're enjoying them, Arabelly! I'm almost done with #005, so stay tuned...
Awesome build. Gave me great inspiration for adding one in our home.
I'd love to see project #3, as it's another thing we're considering in our home. Although all of them are quite interesting and creative.
Awesome. Feel free to come back on here with questions, as I'll do my best to answer. I actually tried this design initially for my son's bookshelf this past winter, so I have a little real world experience with it and would be happy to help you get it done!
Ultimately I would like to see all 4 designs eventually, but for now I'd be most interested in number 1 with the 3D cubes.
Also, great video!
Wow! Exactly what I want, to a T. Such a sensible design, and so simple. Thank you.
I loved the book shelf wall. Would it be possible to add glass doors on this bookshelf? My husband is a comic book collector and freaks out them getting dusty, so the doors would prevent it.
Oh, what a great question! So short answer is YES, could be done for sure. I'd have to think through how you'd structure it differently to accommodate the glass. The way I did it, the shelves aren't actually fixed in place so that you could reconfigure. With the glass, though, I'm thinking you'd want those shelves to be fixed? A fun challenge!
I was wondering if the structure, as you did, would be strong enough to hold the doors. I'd make a wooden frame for the doors. I don't need the shelves to be fixed, would they have to be?
You know, since you'd be making the cabinet doors yourself, I wonder if you could just install the door hinges directly onto the columns? Then you could fit the shelves in there with the regular shelf pin method, but the cabinet doors wouldn't even be attached to the shelves (except maybe the little magnetic door closer strips). If you try this, PLEASE come back and tell me about it! Cool idea.
I loved the built- in book shelf...as well as the other three wall ideas. I think I would love to see #2
That reveal made my jaw drop. That is beautiful. Then u added the desk and wow. You are very talented. Great video.
I really want the 3D cubes so choice 1 is my vote:) Awesome project.
Actually, can you also show wainscoting or a really cool effect using multiple paint choices to do an updated look on an accent wall? Like I really liked adding in all the texture but I am talking about a tiny room that uses an accent wall color but doesn't make space seem smaller.
Wow, I love your enthusiasm. I like these bookshelves. The lights and the small desk are great added features. I pick # 1 but truly like them all.
I would love to see number 1 or number 3. A friend is redoing a 1909 mansion and we're looking at paneling like #3 for the library. It would be really helpful to us. Please and thank you. ☺️ I find your videos both educational and amusing. You do a great job.
I’ve never seen a floating shelf made this way, I love it! Thank you for all the woodworking tips, great for beginners like me. 2:54
#! But all the ideas are good too! My second vote for is #4!
Your first vote is a mystery, Heidi 👆 It could be the deciding vote, so I wanna get it right!
3 looks the best. Nice timeless design.
You make building a book shelf easy, so many ideas. I think option 4 would be awesome.
# 2 as entire wall would be interesting to see. I can't say that I've ever seen anything like that done before. There are already plenty of videos about #'s 3 and 4 so I say jump on # 2 before someone else gets to it first!
This is the exact design I’m looking to build in my living room. Scrolled forever online looking for a tutorial that didn’t involve an IKEA hack or inaccessible tools. Thanks for sharing!
This is what I'm looking for! We have a wall I want this on but will add cabinet doors to bottom third so we can "hide" stuff and will leave a space in the center large enough to mount our TV in. :-)
I think that'll look fantastic, Deborah! Love the TV integration idea for this design.
4 would be cool. Different stains sounds fun too. 2 also sounds like a fun challenge for an entire wall. Look forward to your next video!
That's fortunately my favorite wall that you've done. The little take at the end... Mind blown! I think # 3 would be cool, especially if you do some bright & unexpected color washes.
#4! Can one of them be a door knob to a secret room?
Ohhh yeah. Or maybe I'll just install a dummy knob & see how long it takes for guests to figure out there's NOT a secret room...
I am really starting to get in LOVE with these videos!!!!!
#1 definitely
I think #2 would be really cool!
That pocket hole jig made me so excited!!! I get thr same feeling when I find the perfect dress in the department store. So strange -I love tools and I'm Learning to build my stash of tools and gotta add this tool. Goals 🔨🔧📐🔩🏃 how much did all this wood cost 🤔😕
I know what you mean! Except maybe for a new pair of shoes or jeans 😂 Yeah, a pocket hole jig is truly a game-changer. I got one a year or so ago and I've used it on almost every personal project since. So, just tallied up my receipts...the wood I used here cost a total of $186 for the whole thing. Not bad at all!
I'd like to see them all - but the wood slice wall first, then #1, #2 and, finally, #4. Thanks for the ideas!!!
I loved that you added the console table as a desk. You could custom one of the shelves to be a convertible desk instead of adding that table... But I get that you wanted to make it as simple as possible.
I vote for 1 and/or 3.
Yaaay!!! New epiaode!! Missed you man please keep this series going
Well, I'm on the hook for AT LEAST one more episode now, I guess! Thanks man. Glad you're digging it.
I think #4 would look really cool and it's something not many people have seen, so I vote #4
Idea for a future video? I'm about to get my fist apartment in college and want a super cool wall in it, but since I'm renting I don't want to do too much damage to the actual wall. Any ideas for low-damage designs that can be removed in a year or two?

Can we go mdmdjekrp
Love the bookcase. Lowes I officially give you permission to try all new designs in my home ☺️ - can't wait to see which design wins. I like the wainscot look. So come on by and create that look. You can pick the room 😂
Can we get a renter friendly option? Can't have too many large holes in the wall.
I love all these wall videos, please do 3 & 4 I have been wanting to try both in my home and you break these down so well I feel confident I can really create it 👍
While the host calls this a "book shelf" he doesn't put any books on his 3/4" pine shelf planks. If he did, he would find that the "shelf pins" are not adequate to the job. On the plus side, the Kregg pocket whole jig is a great idea. On the negative side, I have five complaints. 1: His wall has no baseboard, but a real wall would most likely have a baseboard that would need to be removed (or accommodated) on the bottom shelf, the bottom of the upright columns, and the two outer frame pieces. 2: He doesn't tell you what width stock he is using. I measured some existing shelves and found that while 1" x 10" could work for most books, 1" x 12" is actually need for larger books. 3: He spaces all shelves the same height, when both function and aesthetics would recommend that the shelf heights get smaller as they go up, staring with about 14" on the bottom shelf and going to about 11" on the top shelf. 4: He says nothing about the possibility of the shelves sagging. I built an 8' tall by 12' wide shelf with three supporting columns which meant my shelves were about 34" wide. It turns out that there is a tool called the sagulator which can be found at this URL: woodbin.com/calcs/sagulator/ that lets you know how much sag to expect based on material, dimensions, and weight on the shelf. My pine 1" x 12" x 34" passed muster based on about 40 lbs. per shelf. 5: The most serious complaint is that the shelf pins he uses are entirely inadequate to the job of holding 40 lbs. of books. If I had used his 2-column approach the weight would have been closer to 60 lbs, and those shelves would have sagged badly. The result I received after loading the first 2/3 of my library into the bookcase was 600 books on the living room floor. I replaced the inadequate pins with 1" x 2" x 4" pine supports nailed into the columns and the frame and now the bookshelf works fine.
Hey Tim! You make some great points & I appreciate you taking the time to share those resources. Looking back on this vid, I wish I'd addressed the weight/sag issue. I wanted to fill the whole shelf with books, but I didn't personally have enough on hand and to order them would've exceeded my budget. But if I had, perhaps I would've realized the limitations of this design, particularly if you're planning to fill it completely with heavy books. Looking at that calculator (which is great, btw), it looks like ~30lbs is the limit of each 3/4" x 8" x 36" shelf here. Which would accommodate many books, but likely not 100% capacity.
So anyone planning to use this design as a guide, I'd encourage you to plan accordingly! Adding add'l columns, using 2x material vs. 1x, or affixing the shelves permanently like Tim did would all be ways to increase load-bearing capacity.
if you used a peg board you can use it as a guide to drill holes for the shelf peg holes
+Lowe's Home Improvement glad I could help a peg board is cheap & can be reused on several projects you just rip it down to the size you need mark the holes you want to drill through drill one side move it to the other side & repeat should all line up since your peg board is cut at the same length & the holes are drilled out in the same place hope this helps
What an awesome project. I have 4 cheap book shelves that are about to fall apart (literally). I am going to save this video and do this project for my office/guest bedroom. Thanks so much for making it understandable and simple. I will post pictures when I am finished. After my wife goes away for a weekend. Shhhh
Do a mix of 1 and 3. Old classic design with a new 3d effect to it.
Ooh, I like it, Dean. Some of you guys are kinda coloring outside the lines on this thing, but I like the creativity! I'm gonna mark you down as 3, though, since it'd still be primarily a trim-based project.
4 or 1 would be amazing to see!
Love it, finally a video I can understand to go ahead and make the built in at home.
I have to agree, #4 with #2 in the middle would be really cool
3!
#4! Though id love to see all of them, really!! Love all these projects so far- keep up the good work and enthusiastic videos!
3
Omg! You make this look so easy! Next, try #3.😉
Please do the 4th design
You're really the Wall Man, Daniel. I'm binge watching all your videos and love them all. Cheers from the Philippines 🇵🇭
1 or 4 or 3 or all of them
Love the bookshelves wall. I vote for #2.
I love these videos! I want to see number 2!!
#4
Nice job. That would make a great accent wall as well.
Great video - love the classic look! And #3 please!
Let's see number three, like if you agree!
Great bookshelf build. What I really love though is that you did it without a truck load of tools. I've watched so many bookcase builds (getting ready to do a whole wall in a new home) that start with: "First I used my jointer...then my planer...then... " and so on. I have a table saw and a radial saw and I can buy a pocket hole jig but beyond that... not going to create a whole cabinet shop for this project. Good work, thanks.
4
That looks great! I have to try that for my next diy project.
You should definitely do number 1 next
Would like to see #3 done Thanks . Love your built in book shelfs !
Voting for #4!!!! Love all of this!
#4 won, Neil!! Go check it out & let me know what you think: th-cam.com/video/GbkeBgR7Vhw/w-d-xo.html
String art wall sounds real cool
2! It would be so fun! BTW you're awesome Daniel
Great video probably the simplest of all I found on youtube ! I have got these questions: A) how and where did you nail the bottom plank to the floor? Couldn't see clearly from the videoB) How did you attach the middle vertical planks to the bottom and top planks C) if I were to add back plank instead of the wall at what step I should be doing so?Thanks! Excited for the next season
Wow! I'm just about to build shelves in a reading nook inset in our new house. They will be about 6 feet from the ceiling, leaving 3 feet for a padded bench and pillows at the bottom. So this video was just what I needed. My shelves will be wider than 7.5 inches to hold larger books and I'm considering building them from stair treads and I'd like the rounded edge on the front of the shelves.. I really hadn't decided how I could do the lighting, so I really appreciate your suggestion. Hopefully I can figure out how to install the cute on-off switch you used. It's such a great idea! Thanks so, so much for this video!
3! I've always wanted to see how that look is done. Please do 3!
Loved this wall! I vote for #3 next
Omg this book shelf is amazing and I would love to see the third one done on the next video or the 4th one. Shooy just do them all
My favorite of your wall ideas! The lighting looks super...the press on/off button is a great idea. I just have to ask...why the dark paint? I know we all have different tastes; however, the dark seems rather depressing. Ket's idea would be a pop of color on the wall behind & a light stain on the wood. Still, the teacher in me gives the project an A+.
Definitely #3 for your next project.
#3 stacked panels would be great. LOVE the shelves btw!!!
You make it look so easy.
Where are you gone man? I don’t see any new videos for a year now and I miss miss miss your projects. Your work is the best I have seen on TH-cam and Pinterest because you make it doable for amateurs. Please come up with new projects
Do you feel a newfound creative confidence welling up inside you after watching this? Good. Tap here to see the tools and materials you’ll need to build this bookshelf: cur.lt/2hKtmVh (product links in the description for desktop users).
I vote #4 love all your wall video!
Lowe's Home Improvement #4 please! 😁
Lowe's Home Improvement # 4 . Would love to see this on a wall.
#4 would look amazing
I say 3!
