I also see that they don’t offer a wide, which means I would probably go to a 162. What are your thoughts?
Hi Avram I'm thinking of purchasing this board (the 23' model is still available and way cheaper than this year's), but I'm a bit torn between the 162 and the 166. I'm 6'3, 200lbs and I wear size 11 boots, and my current board is an old (17 years!) nitro twin with length 163, which I feel is a tiny bit on the short side. I ride mostly resort, some free ride, but also occasionally powder between trees, and I wonder if I should go longer or if newer boards (especially stiffer freeride-oriented tapered ones like the ravine select) may be a bit more forgiving at shorter lengths than older ones? Thanks a lot in advance!

Wondering if the Vice will work better on both since I can adjust the heel cup to center my boot? If that doesn't matter, Mercury's seem better suited for the Ravine Select. Any thoughts? Should I have gotten a Ride Shadowban?
They'll work just fine. Turn the disk on your Mercury bindings so the slots go toe to heel and push back or forward if you need to center it. No you don't need the Shadowban.
Ya, thanks. Looks like a nice deck. I think I might like the s camber design on this, sounds like it may be a bit closer to real surfing, which I’ve practiced for 55 years. lean in on the bottom turn, using the front edge. Then shift your weight to the power zone (set back camber) and snap off the lip, 😎
Hey thanks, great review! I just got the Jones MT 24, and looking to buy a board to fill the gaps where the MT lacks. The Rome ravine select looks like a good candidate.. since it can handle the powder and freeride better, and use the MT for butters and more around playfullness. What are your thoughts about this? Do you perhaps, have a recommendation what board, would better suits next to my jones mountain twin?

Would you recommend either of these boards, or should I look elsewhere?
Would love to buy one but I have to Ravine 2021 in a 155 which has only done one season. I feel like the additional dampening and pop would be great. Avran is this a board you’d need to size up for pow? (Need vs preferably) I’m 190lbs and riding the 155 but haven’t seen powder on it.

Hey man. Thinking about picking one of these boards up mainly as a cheaper option over the bsod. I own 2 BSODs and i like most freeride boards that follow that style of stiff, damp, camber underfoot/rockered nose slightly tapered tail. My question is am i going to be totally disappointed after coming off the bsod or are they comparable after taking into account for the cheaper price tag? Any other comparable boards in that category you would recommend? Thanks man

I have been riding for around 32 years and looking for a good all-mountain board that carves well and grips well on ice. Have been looking at Jones Ultra Mind Expander and this Rome Ravine Select. Hey Avran, I currently have a 154 niche maelstrom and am looking to upgrade soon. I am looking for a board that has a bit more snap and better powder float while still being able to carve well. Does the ravine select fit the bill or should I be looking at another board? At 150 size 8 boots riding in PNW I am thinking about grabbing the 152.

Would this be a good quiver pickup for a powder stick? And would you say it's worth shelling out extra for the black labels vs the katanas like Rome recommends or not?
Hey Angry! Been riding the 2023 BSOD with Atlas Pro bindings and absolutely loved that setup. Super stable and the carving experience what incredible and it performed decent in powder. Unfortunately, some some lowlife douchebag stole my entire setup a couple of weeks ago, so now i need to decide what to replace it with. While i loved the BSOD, I'm considering this the ravine select for better powder float and easier turn initiation in steep moguls and tree runs. The BSOD was solid, but pretty damn demanding. I'm still looking for that stiff and aggressive deck that can lay trenches at speed. The Ravine select appears to be slightly more approachable, but i'm a little worried that it's not aggressive enough and i'd be downsizing from a BSOD 59 to select 58. Will this feel like a chattery noodle compared to the '23 BSOD and will it carve as well? How do those two boards compare in general? Will i be happy with this if i'm looking for something just SLIGHTLY less demanding than the BSOD? Oh and i'm thinking about the Rome Cleavers in lieu of Atlas Pros for better dampening and comfort. How would you rate it vs the Salomon dancehaul ? I’m in love with the Salomon’s design - fits my outfit - I’m a quick turn carving typing of rider who rides 95 % in non powder but rather fast and very edge to edge turns - sometimes some 360 butters and so .. but no park. What’s your suggestion ?
Hey Angry- Thanks for the video. I rode a 2019 Yes PYL 160W for 3 years and picked up a 2022 Standard Uninc 159 last year. Loved everything about the PYL 160W but was a little let down by the Standard Uninc 159 last year. Wasn't able to point the standard uninc with as much speed as id like (usually set the pace for the skiier crew I ride with but found it harder with this board), and felt like i needed to be fully focused/locked-in at all times with any decent speed. I have no need for a twin anymore, and spend all my days at CO resorts between trees/groomers/pow. 180lbs with 12 boots. Between this board, PYL DCP, and Korua Transition Finder, which would you recommend for me? Any others I should consider? Thanks!
Hi Angry, I’m looking to snag the new select for Japan this season. Was wondering from your personal experience if the ravine & select heavily differ in stiffness from previous models? Makers say it’s an 8, so just wondering since I still want to keep it playful. Also size wise, I’m 165 pounds with a size 10 boot. Would it be better to go with the 155 or 158? Thanks man.
Sorry man one more question. I checked the 155 flex over the 158 in person today, def felt substantial. I purchased the peaceseeker last year, and typically use that as my carving/pow board. Wanted the select for something a little more playful in the POW, but can still side hit, jumps, some park as well. Would you still recommend the 158 in that case, or would that be too much board for my size? Thank you again
@AngrySnowboarder Im 5'11 and vary between 165-170lbs, size 9 boot. I currently ride a 153 rome mod rocker and looking at the RS. I want to focus more on charging groomers and steep lines but love tree runs and powder. What would you recommended for the RS, 155 or 158?
@AngrySnowboarder yea I feel it's a toss up. Feel like im right between the two so its been hard to pick...The 155 will be a bit more nimble (tree runs) and the 158 will be more stable (bombing hills).
Debating picking a Ravine Select up on sale as my new pow board. Current pow board is a 152 Hatchet, but I think it's just a bit too much board (takes quite a bit of effort to get it edge to edge) for me unless I'm absolutely ripping. I'm 165lbs, 5' 11". Would a 155 Ravine be a good size for me in pow? Is there anything else I should look at? For ref, my daily is a 154 K2 Happy Hour w/Katanas, which I still love to bits (maybe it could be a pow board if I set it back my bindings a lot, I guess?).
Unless you have a size 10 or above boot the Hatchet is going to suck with torsionally twisting it, the Ravine Select is going to be more playful but you probably want the regular Ravine.
@@AngrySnowboarder I do wear a size 10 (just got new Ride The 92's on sale in fact), but the Hatchet is a workout torsionally/in general. Interesting you reco the Ravine over the Select, I'm guessing bc it's more less stiff and more playful?

You definitely don’t need to worry about board width with your 10.5 boots. I’m 10-11 in boots depending on the fit of the model/ brand & I’ve never had any issues on boards 25.0-25.9 waist width. The width at the inserts is more important than waist width. You should be fine on any board that’s in your preferred size.
I just want to know if it's wide enough for my large goot/binding set-up. I have old Burton hails that are big, and buying the board with union ultra large bindings
Really? This board doesn't come in wide. I really like this deck too. So I'm fucked because I have bigger feet and can't shred the deck I want? Sounds like I'm also an angry snowboarder now...
I was thinking of getting this as my all mountain freeride board. I'm 5'9, 155 lbs, and I wear size 9.5 US boots. Does anyone think that the 158 would be too much board or should I go with the 155? I'm looking to use this board in big mountain competitions.
You're going to want that 58 for better pow float and edge hold. But if you're riding a big mountain competition there are so many better boards than this.
If you're doing true big mountain I'd look at the Rossi XV, Nidecker Mega or Ultralight, Ride Commissioner but that might be too stiff so maybe a MTN Pig, K2 Alchemist or Antidote, Jones Flagship.
More directional, rear foot dominate, 3d shaping in the nose, better dampening in the nose through the front foot. Basically they sit in two different categories.
Kevin I have exactly these 2 snowboards, agree with the Angry that it's 2 different categories which suplement each other very very much. Mercury for basically all conditions. Ravine when there is more snow. If these is just few inches of pow I would still take Mercury is it's bit more playful, easier to load a pop, better switch which is really fun in powder. I ride 159 Mercury and 162 Ravine, In the end I'm glad taking bigger Ravine as it just power through big stashes of powder with ease, dumps big landings easily, helps a lot on loong powder days. I take Mercury to any conditions when I feel bit more playful that day.
Are Lobster snowboard's worth the money, their blackfriday sale is oddly low could that be due to quality or them just not selling boards cuz they're shit?

How does this thing ride switch? Considering the warden but this thing is sick
Can you ride switch? Yes? Then you’re fine. Can’t ride switch? Well, probably going to have a bad time.
Who cares what I think since you're all about matching it to your outfit.
Thanks!
PYL DCP
Hi Angry, I’m looking to snag the new select for Japan this season. Was wondering from your personal experience if the ravine & select heavily differ in stiffness from previous models? Makers say it’s an 8, so just wondering since I still want to keep it playful.
Also size wise, I’m 165 pounds with a size 10 boot. Would it be better to go with the 155 or 158?
Thanks man.
The Select is a little stiffer in the mid section back through the tail and is more damp under foot. If I was using it for Japan I'd use the 58.
Much appreciated 🙏
Sorry man one more question.
I checked the 155 flex over the 158 in person today, def felt substantial. I purchased the peaceseeker last year, and typically use that as my carving/pow board.
Wanted the select for something a little more playful in the POW, but can still side hit, jumps, some park as well. Would you still recommend the 158 in that case, or would that be too much board for my size? Thank you again
If you're scared get the smaller size then.
It's kind of your call but I'd probably push you towards the 55 as it won't be a huge jump from that 53 Mod Rocker.
@AngrySnowboarder yea I feel it's a toss up. Feel like im right between the two so its been hard to pick...The 155 will be a bit more nimble (tree runs) and the 158 will be more stable (bombing hills).
That's exactly it.
@@scottie10014 Pretty much, sounds like you lack ankle strength to twist a board.
@@AngrySnowboarder Haha perhaps. Could be a boot thing, switching to Ride's The 92 from my Salomon Launches. Fwiw, I was also debating the Bataleon Party Wave Twin as a pow pow board, too
@@scottie10014 That board is kind of uninspiring. If you can find a deal on a Magic Carpet from Bataleon instead, swoop that way better twin pow board.
Hey Angry.
I am 6'1 and 176 lbs shoe size 10.5 shoe size.
Looking for a board for buttering, every sidehit i can find and the occasional lap around the park, small and medium jumps. but mostly piste and a little pow.
would you recommend passport, dynamo or shadowban.
what size would you recommend? over 160 or 159 W?
also i'm worried about width. would you say boards with 25.7 waist are too narrow for 10.5 k2s?
Thanks for the reviews angry!!
@@mdaviar thanks for the answer man!!
You are welcome! 🤙🏽
I just want to know if it's wide enough for my large goot/binding set-up. I have old Burton hails that are big, and buying the board with union ultra large bindings
You need a wide.
Really? This board doesn't come in wide. I really like this deck too. So I'm fucked because I have bigger feet and can't shred the deck I want? Sounds like I'm also an angry snowboarder now...
What if I sized up? 158? I'm only size 10.5-11 boot
What would you say is better for intermediate rider looking for all mountain board I’m 6” 210lbs the Rome ravine select or the amplid singular?
Singular.
@@AngrySnowboarder I notice they don’t have a wide version. I wear a size 12boot you think toe drag will be a issue with the singular?
@@Misfit_88 I'm to lazy to go look at the spec sheet so I'll say probably.
150lbs with size 9 boots. 152 or 155?
I spend most of my days free riding at Canyons resort in Utah. Like going into the woods as much as I can.
52 will be way more nimble in the trees.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thanks for the quick reply Angry, are there a few boards you may recommend for a big mountain competition?
If you're doing true big mountain I'd look at the Rossi XV, Nidecker Mega or Ultralight, Ride Commissioner but that might be too stiff so maybe a MTN Pig, K2 Alchemist or Antidote, Jones Flagship.
@@AngrySnowboarder Sweet, I'll definitely be looking into all these boards. Thanks again!
Will you be reviewing that new berzerker this season?
Magic 8 ball says " This is not in the cards"
You can probably still find a 21/22 model and they kick ass! Angry approved.
@@AngrySnowboarder RIP 🪦
How does this board compare to the Capita Mercury?
Size rec?
180lb x 9M boot x 6’0”
Also, what was your experience riding switch on this?
I can ride it switch, no clue if you can. I'd say grab the 58 if you want it for pow.
158 would be my guess
Are Lobster snowboard's worth the money, their blackfriday sale is oddly low could that be due to quality or them just not selling boards cuz they're shit?
They're just rebranded Bataleons with different flex patterns.
@@AngrySnowboarder bataleons are also a considerable board, but the lobster Halldor pro is about 20 packs of reds cheaper. is it a good board for the park/resort rider
Think I'd notice a big difference (specifically in the trees) going up from a 156 niche story to this in a 158??
It's going to be more aggressive due to the camber profile and shape.
Angry I’m a Craigslist bargain junky, found a great deal on a used ravine select but it’s a 152 & I’m 160 lbs & sz 10 boots, should I swoopitup or am I being a bargain hunting dumbass??
PASS
Thanks for the advice I appreciate it!!@@AngrySnowboarder
