Near the end of the game you get the Reaper's Mercy. It lets you survive a KO if you are above 50%HP with 1hp, Good for letting you survive the purple/black beam attack if you don't block in time.
Still confused at the sudden Space Invaders segment tbh, since it's a starkly different mechanic to the rest of the game.
