While the early Academy kit lacked detail and was not very accurate, you turned it into a handsome "Missile With A Man In It"! I enjoy making 'desktop' kits from these vintage boxings.
I recently built such a model from the Academy kit, but I made it with a full cockpit interior, revised engine intake cones, rings in the J79 engine nozzle, full undercarriage gaps, and a completely new, revised cab cover. I also tweaked the radar and added a Pitot tube threaded from injection needles. The model was painted by NASA N811NA. It took me about 3 months of work, but I was able to tweak this awful set so it doesn't look as terrible as it does out of the box. Academy should have already launched a brand new F-104 Starfighter.

Academy actually release an updated starfighter kit in 72nd, reboxed from italeri kit I think...
Prefiero estos kits básicos que los más complejos. Demuestran que con poco de entretiene mucho. Estos kits hacen escuela.

The kit seems very basic in terms of detail. It reminds me of the Airfix and Frog kits I built in the seventies!
or the Matchbox kits I built many of in the 80s and early 90s...
