In short that Heihachi dropped off Kazuya to see if he’s worthy to be a true Mishima and inherit Mishima Zaibatsu (that Heihachi literally stole by imprisoning his father Jinpachi) and Kazuya in order to survive the fall from the cliff made a pact with the Devil. The retcon made no sense since it tried to make Heihachi look good but in fact he was always evil and power hungry which can be seen in any other cutscene with him in every single Tekken game.

At least he had a Damn Good Reason for it. Let's be real here Heihachi and Kazuya would've done worse and Kazuya currently is. Jin just wants to put an end to his families dysfunction and it is bad enough that the Devil is part of it

The third one got a bit more complex due to Ogre but it still was mostly just a King of Iron Fist Tournament. And now we have a third World War. There's even no canonical titular Tournament since Tekken 5. Also characters back then fought in a tournament for money, now they participate in a literal war, some are there by government's order, some are PMC and some just want to avenge somebody but that's pretty normal even for older entries.
