Can I capture all of them with my aging camera?

  • Join me on this early late summer morning for filming and photographing shorebirds. There are numerous species, and such a multitude of them! This is a very special place in Norway where many birds come to rest, eat, and prepare themselves for migration to England, Southern Europe, and Africa. What an incredible place it is. I feel so fortunate to have access to this location and, not least of all, to be completely alone on such a beautiful morning!
    After spending a few hours at the beach, I decide to take a walk along the shore to get closer to some birds. And I am so fortunate!
    Bird photography equipment: Nikon D500 with Nikkor 400mm 2.8 telephoto lens, and Nikon D7200 with Sigma 60-600mm zoom lens.

    So happy to have found your channel. I can relate to the challenges you have with your current gear, but what you produced here was beautiful.

      Thank you so much! 😍 I'm going to do more videos during the winter now as the species vary trough the winter. 🐦💚 I'm actually writing this at Dovre where we are photographing Musk Ox - I've never done that before, and it was such an experience🦬

    Great video.
    Does it really matter how old the camera is? I also take photos with old cameras (D800/D810/D7100) and am still satisfied with the quality. Maybe things are easier with modern cameras and there is less noise. But in my opinion the challenge and the joy of taking a great picture with an 'old' camera should not be underestimated.

      Thank you, glad you liked it and you have some very good points. I guess I got a bit frustrated. It was the D7200 that let me down in the video, my D500 seem a lot more precise, better and faster, although I'm quite able to fumble enough to miss the shots with that as well! 😅 I supposed this is what the industry is good at - making us always want something newer and better 🤓

      I use a D800 as well and it is funny to think of it as an old camera. My F2 is an old camera!

    • @frodeaardal
      @frodeaardal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@peterkumble4093 yes it's definitely not an old camera in reality, it's just that their so good at making us want the improvements! I'm dying to get autofocus while filming! It's driving me nuts to (try to) manually focus while filming small, fast and furious birds! 😅🐦

      No doubt, the work that you are doing on piping plover (tastes like chicken we use to joke) needs to keep you following them. They do like to dart and run quickly. I like the idea of the Z7 or Z8 and sure I can use the adapter ring and keep all of my stupid expensive lenses. Maybe in a few years as the 800 is a kick arse body.

      The 400 2.8 lens costs the same as 6-8 of your cameras, it’s easier to buy a new Z9 with an FTZ adapter and enjoy the coolest autofocus. The D500 is also very fast, but it doesn't have the latest eye tracking features.

      Thank you. A little bit frustrated there, but I'll have to stick with them for a while longer and just have to make it work 😉 Still pretty good cameras really, especially the D500, but the Z8 looks really nice to me 😋😍

      I guess many of "my" birds are coming over to you guys in Britain. 👍 I really like to see the "same" birds in our mountains, like the golden plover that is a typical summer bird we meet while hiking 🐦♥️

    Great video! You've been very lucky that day seeing so many birds that close. Saw a lot myself during migration this year here in Germany but from a much greater distance. Where in Norway is this place? Bird migration seems to be a good reason to visit Norway again ;-)

      Thank you so much! I'm very glad you liked it. The place is called Revtangen, and it's a very good spot all year, particularly in spring and, of course, fall :-) Revtangen and the waters around are all part of a connected Ramsar area, so birdwatching here is quite astounding! I think it's very well worth a visit, and if you decide to come, I'd be happy to show you both Revtangen and the other places.
