    Just now getting into creating own small business and I was just wondering if you use water and oil mixed together don’t you need to use a preservative to prevent mold from appearing in your foaming wash, and have a longer shelving life? Or because the water is mixed in with oil is it ok without a preservative? Sorry I’m late to this video, hope I can still get some feed back thank you so much ☺️

    Hello, Dora! Wondering if it separates after sitting for a time? Does it need shaken before each use, and if so, would polysorbate help? Or does the surfactant take complete care of emulsification? I’m new to bath/body but learn A LOT from you!!

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well hello there Terri! You will need to shake it every time before using it (but you're picking it up anyways, 1-2 shakes ain't a big deal- I didn't even notice it)! I tried polysorbate 80, but couldn't get it to work right; it's so thick that the amount of water needed to thin it out basically depleted my surfactant & the foam came out all runny... not good!

    Hi i truly enjoyed your easy diy video and I’m wondering can you possibly make an in shower lotion soap, (if that makes sense)? I’m trying to make a better version that’s a little more loose and can be squeezed onto the skin to offer moisturizing prior to using the actual soap bar. I’m definitely trying this after bath/shower body oil as an added moisturizer. Thank you

    Shouldn't you have an emulsifier and a preservative when mixing water with oil

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. As I stated in a few other comments, I tried polysorbate 80, but couldn't get it to work right; it's so thick that the amount of water needed to thin it out basically depleted my surfactant & the foam came out all runny. And, no preservative needed; preservatives are only needed for dry bath products that may get water in them (like scrubs). The preservative is to ward off bacteria from growing mold. Plus, none of the recipes I researched used them. However, if you feel more comfortable adding one, you can. It shouldn't hurt the product in any case.

      @@CreativeBathLab there are other emulsifiers Liquid Lecithin is one

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, but I don’t have that. I tried ALL ingredients that I have (which is a butt load)… I even tried peg 40 (emulsifier). Not saying it can’t be done! I just wasn’t able to do it… or let’s just say I wasn’t willing to devote more time to try (I spent 3 days formulating recipes).

  • @rlpittard
    @rlpittard 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Water and oil do not mix without an emulsifier so I would consider adding a surfactant that has emulsifier properties or find something else that will work!

      Cocamidopropyl betaine is use as an emulsifier. And it works well in this formulation. I use it as a hand soap in my bathrooms. I let it sit for a few days without shaking it up. it worked the same great bubbles. Try it and see. She puts out great videos. I have learned a lot.

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure but I don’t think so… unless you add some sort of surfactant. The foam is caused by bubbles that form in the mix. Oil has none to speak of
