The story of how Husk lost his Overlord power to Alastor in Hazbin Hotel

- Did you know this in hazbin hotel?
In episode 4 of hazbin hotel we found out the shocking revelation that husk was originally an overlord. So what happened?
Well husk explained that he’s an addicted gambler. He was an overlord with a lot of power. One way to gain power is through soul dealing where you trade your soul for a favour. So husk probably gambled souls and worked his way up to the overlord table. In the pilot vaggie explained how alastor mysteriously appeared years ago and toppled overlords who had been in charge for years, one of these being husk. Husk was addicted to gambling, he ended up gambling against alastor who probably cheated and ended up losing everything to him. As a result he’s indebted to alastor, like how angel dust is to valentino.
Overall i thought husk’s backstory was really sad but also inspiring. Although he’s literally a husk of his former self, he doesn’t shy away from helping his friends. Him and angel are both losers, but they have eachother and can help others to get redeemed and sent to heaven.

No comments and no likes let me fix that
Poor Husk and Angel.😞
Hey man, just wanted to pop in, and say that Husk couldn’t have been one of the overlords Alastor toppled when he first manifested-provided the current wiki is right and Husk passed in the 70s. Alastor would have shown up in ‘33 and gone on his (probably decade long, tbh) spree of just bulldozing Overlords and being able to install speakers and such all over the city and use them as broadcasting places as he does in his song. And he would easily choke out any other station that he didn’t like/didn’t get permission from him to exist. Not to mention, when Vox manifested, he’d have to work _within_ Alastor’s rules before they became proper rivals, because the whole “Vox has antenna on his head” even as a flat screen, means he still can pick up video broadcast that are transmitted via radio waves. Any source of TV that isn’t cable or internet based, is going to be broadcast via radio waves.
Alastor, probably by the contracts with the Loa/his New Orleans Voodoo, and it being tied into him being a radio host, manifested with just… so much raw power in being able to control that whole spectrum of light alone. Toss in the voodoo, and the many souls he took himself while alive, and… even if he’s not some mega powerful overlord, his raw ability to access so many things at once (like Vox’s screens, that he’s clearly spying on him to know what Vox said in the beginning of their song to mirror it back to him, and then put himself, not glitching, on Vox’s actual screen in front of the TV demon… yeah) it gives Alastor this unique position of flexibility.
I still would love to see, and I don’t think it will ever be canon, since Sinners don’t seem to be broken down into subtypes, but the fact that some of the most powerful and feared Sinners are all what I call “Media Demons” it seems like it… should be a thing. Especially because there is one “Media Demon” type that we’ve not seen, who, if they exist, _should_ have Overlord status: the demon who manifested from the writing/novel/short story/etc world. I was wracking my brain the other day trying to figure out what was missing, and I realized that in the steps of telling stories, we went radio, tv, social media/internet. And just hopped over books. And the movies but… ehhh… that would be divisive since many of the people who might become some sort of movie demon is… splitting hairs due to how weird and corrupt Hollywood can be.
People really thought Alastor genuinely wants to help Charlie when the Vees said he's only helping Charlie to make a deal with her and become strong enough to take on Lucifer himself, so Vox sent Sir Pentious to spy on them to prevent that deal from happening. The Vees only care about stopping Alastor, Velvette was the one that gave Vox that idea. Like how Husk gains souls and becomes more powerful through gambling, Alastor does the same through dealing. Ironic, isn't it?
Where do I watch all the episodes?
The fact that he was an overlord is so shocking and I'll say that his backstory is honestly just downright sad
It also kind of makes sense though. Especially with his casino vibe
He was probably the overload of gambling, ran all the casinos and everything in Hell.
That makes sense and maybe in the future we’ll get confirmation or more lore for more theories
@@callanightshade8079and lose everything to Alastor 😂
I don't find it sad cause we don't know what past version was like and as we know alastor only goes after another overlord If they are assholes so past him was most likely an asshole
I mean, aside from the whole “gambling for souls” thing.
Ngl my reaction to Husk saying he was an overlord was just:

And if you look more down, you can actually see Niffty
@@gr0ss3r0wy So Nifty is another overlord who fell to Alastor?
@@tgdm_show I don't think so, Husk sold his soul to Alastor (iirc) so Niffty might of done the same or Alastor did something to get her soul

@@LydiaNorris-Hazbinbut how can his face be on the radio when radio is audio only?
I believe that Alastor didn’t win against Husk, but instead Husk turned to him after losing a lot of his power, which is why he’s in debt
I very much believe that alastor won against husk
Husk lost his power betting his power to Alastor that’s why he’s with him forever, because Alastor owns his soul
I believe the way that those chips/money stacks are, Husk very much did lose. But I think, with how Alastor got/took Husk’s cards, Husk, in a last ditch effort to win back his physical wealth, or hit a lucky streak, bet his soul and his power. His power/soul was in the custom cards, and Alastor, turning the cards to have him on them, signifies that Husk lost the bet of his power and soul.
I don’t think, personally, that Ayylmao is right that Alastor cheated. At least, no more than Husk might have. Alastor is pretty well known for wanting novel, and ‘true’ experiences. And a literal “fiddle of gold against your soul, says I’m better than you” would be _impossible_ for Alastor to resist. Cheating, unless he was at a _serious risk_ of losing, would make the game less fun. Especially because it’s very likely that while human, and frequenting Speakeasies and generally living in New Orleans, was probably a card shark and could count cards and etc. (also lol, I double checked about Speakeasies having gambling and cards, and _word for word_ as it’s talking about how speakeasies introduced dr^gs, it says “many who had never come into contact with these substances, found a new source of ‘entertainment’ in the permissive atmosphere of the speakeasies.”
And HMMMMMM why does _that_ sound so familiar? XD)
I definitely believe Al cheated
yes! i believe so too! :D
In the words of the living tombstones Alastor's game
" You laid your chips out on the table now, when you gamble souls, the house will always win. A double dealing in betrayal and I'm here to cash my payout. Hope it was worth the life of sin"

Well he did gamble with Alastor and Alastor might have cheated to play, but to be fair Husk also cheated the game, so both of them cheated but Alastor cheats better😅😅😅

I think Huskerdust is a nice friendship. It's for to struggling homies who feel each other pain knowing they're not alone in the cruel world🗿
But what if it could be something mooorrreee, maybe a snuggle or two, huskerdust is very cute too

@@themarboi7276finally someone who pointed that
@@themarboi7276I don't mind they are not dating or anything. The two dynamic is wholesome enough
Yeah I see it as a wholesome friendship for now. Unless something BIG happens between the 2 in the next season, I don't really ship it. It's nice that Angel has a male friend who he can trust, as before all he had was Cherri and any guy he met he'd try to seduce. So for Husk to blatantly tell him to cut the temptress act out and just be real with him was nice and refreshing because he cared more about Angel being true to himself than lying to others to appear as this sex icon.
I feel like Alastor didn't cheat, but instead Husk probably got greedy and took a risk when he could've walked away with what he already had, leading to him losing it all.
Truly, cassino style huh
@@matheuswesley7138 it's also awfully convenient how husk never lost over the countless years he has been gambling. So i'm guessing that husk has cheated(only logical bc it is hell) and alastor just out cheated him. But imagine if alastor lost? I can't imagine him being under some1

Losing his overlord status was probably a wake up call for Husk, no way he was as considerate and caring as he is now
In the pilot you can see Husk and Nifty in Alastor's shadow, since Husk was confirmed to be an overlord I feel like Nifty was too.
I'm pretty sure nifty is a different case
I really wish to learn a lot more about Nifty. I am in the Nifty was an overlord theory
Aaagh, this episode was so good!!! Blake Roman did an amazing job conveying Angel’s pain and anguish, and I absolutely loved the HuskerDust moments throughout the entire episode!
I also noticed in the begging of episode 4 Angel is wearing his suit from the pilot
He was???? Lemme go rewatch it...
Edit: OH SHIT HE IS!! Maybe Val is the one who made Angel wear the tighter gloves and suit to appear more doll-like to clients...?
@@mutantsandmemes it was a good reference to the pilot I have to give credit for that
I was shocked to learn he was an overlord, seeing him point at Alastor is so sad, with the realization he lost everything.
I don't even think he cheated
Alastor is just that skilled
He’s got a powerful reputation in hell as the radio demon overlord. He’s got so many unpredictable skills.
Your honor, my client didn't cheat, he's just him
Alastor is a sucker for entertainment. He'll do things by the books because cheating removes the risk and fun.
In part of the clip, you can see Alastor's shadow or whatever it is behind Husk, I don't think it'd be behind him where the shadow could see Husk's cards for the sake of it. Also if you ask me Alastor is definitely the type of guy to cheat to get his way
@@BlacklungBadass I think Alastor might've won by skill otherwise you're right- he'll do everything to get his way
In the picture of the overlords, behind Alastor, were the shadows of Husk and Niffty. If Husk was an overlord it's a possibility that Niffty was an overlord too. I wouldn't be shocked if Alastor was collecting souls of overlords to gain more power
He has them in the 100 thousand’s already
You were right he does collecting overlords' soul!
Out of all the twists in the first four episodes, THIS was the thing that made me slap the pause button and yell, "I'M SORRY WHAT?!"
The fact that I hadn't watched any of the season 1 episodes and had this huge spoiler thrown in my face was incredible. I created this theory in my head that Husk was more powerful than he seemed and now I'm very happy to be absolutely right about that.
I was honestly really surprised by Husk being an ex-Overlord. It was something that I never saw coming, but I feel like it fits him and makes his backstory seem both more sad and more interesting, and I hope that the show will go into more detail about it in future episodes. Husk is now my favorite character.
Plus, I love knowing that Overlords can lose their power just as quickly as they gain it. It shows the power struggle that the Overlords probably regularly face and it adds an interesting detail to the lore that's never been touched on before (as far as I know).
Imagine becoming all powerful and getting dog walked by someone who sounds like a radio.
It definitely was shocking! However, I think it would be cool if Val had a similar experience to Husk because it would set up a huge sense of irony that we really need!
In what sense? Bc Val is still an overlord
@@someonerandom5210in the, val loses his overlord powers
My honest reaction - wow he went missing couple years ago like 7 years and NOW CAME BACK😒
Just noticed Angel is missing his second pair of arms during the ending of their song for quite a long time too. When the camera zooms in after their pose his arms come back. U can see his bottom shoulder.
He can retract them since he usually doesn’t have all three pairs out at once the 3rd pair probably get in the way of his day to day life so he keeps them in most of the time the same could easily be true of all of them
I hope in a later season Husker regains his overlord position with the help of Angel.
maybe they'll kill val together impressing alastor enough to give husk his overlord title back
Maybe but overlord or not I’ll still like Husk
Yeah he played against Alastor then lost all his power to Alastor, to get it back he decided to let Alastor enslave his soul so that he could have some of his power back
He probably used to say when he wins at gambling souls was, "The House, Always Wins." Perhaps he had a whole casino where probably called, "The House."
Something tells me that Husk will become an Overlord again
Hope so😢
Honestly I thought he used to be an overlord from the start, idk why I just did
I did or at least suspected he was which made sense 😂
Husker is goated.
Also maybe Nifty was an overlord?
I swear to satan IF she was an overlord that would be the funniest shit
Well, we see Husk’s shadow behind Alastor in the pilot episode when they showcase the overlords, and I think Nifty is also behind Alastor as well. Which could very well mean she was.
@@somerandomartisthere just a reminder, after this conversation a video was posted that was somewhere along the lines of the same discussion we had.
Oh yeah no, Nifty would be the best overlord.
Husk: I was an Overlord once.
Fans: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He and angel really were meant for each other
I think that wasn’t entirely the case. Husk first mentioned how he said that gambling while being was dangerous. And then there was a clips where the cards in his deck shows a drawing of him slowly getting more upset each time a card is revealed, basically meaning that he lost his power due to gambling. Then Husk mentions Alastor, and says something along the lines of ‘when you lose everything, you would do anything to stay afloat.’. This suggests a number of things. One, either yes, he lost a gambling match against Alastor. Or two , he was tricked by Alastor into having a deal with him in desperation to keep his power. I think option number two is more accurate, but what do you guys think?
In 'Loser Baby' Husk has this line.
"I sold my soul to save my power."
To me, this indicates the second option you explained. My theory is that the more souls you own, the more powerful you are. When Husk started losing serious souls, he started losing his physical power, and when he says he made his deal with Alastor, i believe it wasnt a game at all and was actually a consensual agreement, Alastor owns his soul and Husk keeps whatever power he still had when he made the deal.
Husk is my favorite character :), he’s so underrated…
It made a lot more sense when the pilot came out and when alastor met husk again, husk was all like “aw shit not you again”
This was a theory a lot of people came to, considering his of talking to Alister but still taking his orders. Its clear that he's probably very powerful in his own right if given the chance, but as long as Alister has his soul, he can't do much without a given command to do so. It would be interesting to see Alister be forced into a situation where he has to return Husk's soul in order to save himself from a bad situation, so we can see him at full power.
I saw someone mention that you can see Husk’s silhouette next to Alastor’s, but if you look towards the bottom on Alastor’s right, I believe you can also see Niffty’s. Does this mean she was an overlord too? 🤔🤔
Also in one of the episodes, Husk explains that no one needs to know what Niffty’s deal is. Idk that might be reaching, but it could also be an indicator maybe..? 😅
Loser baby is such a good song I’ve been listening to it nonstop
When I found out that husk was once an overlord I said "no wonder he was in the background in the backstory about alastor in the pilot" 😮😮😮😮
That explains why alastor seemed to own him in the pilot. Now I want nifty's story.
I feel bad for this guy😭😭
It’s so heartbreaking how Alastor treats Husk 💔
I love Alastor but I low key hated him during the scene he was being mean to husk.
I sense that Husk explaining his tragic downfall is foreshadowing. Like maybe someone, like Husk, will trick a major villain like I don't know, Valentino, into overbidding on a gamble and making them lose a lot of valuable assets like, and I'm just throwing ideas like darts at a board, a bunch of contracts for souls?
Angel and husk are so fucking adorable!!! I can’t wait to see them in the full show :D
At the end of the video angel is missing his arms 😂
“Him and Angel are both losers-“ got me
I love husk as a character and his song is sweet. “Loose your self loathing, excuse yourself let hope in, play your card be who you are..” I love it so much

In my opinion I think Alastor didn’t exactly cheat since husk said that his luck was running out and as we all know Alastor is fairly intelligent that’s why he became an overlord quickly toppling older overlords that’s what my theories are-
At least it seems that Alastor doesn't treat Husk like Valentino does Angel.
Me now knowing that he was a overlord is surprising to me and to probably all of the fans I thought he was just a sinner and that’s it
i'm hoping Alastor treats Husk better than Val with Angel (obviously). Also "Val and Al" are in charge of husk and angel, "coincidence? i think Not."
honestly, husk curses alastor without much fear, and alastor don't react violently at it, just play with him and his situation, but no violence, so yeah alastor do seems like to treat husk better, than val with angel.

husk and angel are so cute tho, i feel like they understand each other really well!
I think that after a while husk and Alastor became good friends even tho husk sold his soul to him
I think this is so, because with others who have sold their souls, Alastor turns them into black and white spirits, and during battles he infuses their souls into voodoo dolls.

When i heard he was an overlord i just said
"Wait what i gotta hear that again no way he was an overlord.holy shit he is"
Yall we still have the scene from the trailer of Charlie crying in front of angels door so the thing with Val ain’t over yet
But now I'm imagining Husk showing up at the hotel offering to help and he summons Alastor who has no interest in being there. Husk would have been a way better overlord to be honest
Honestly I kind of maybe going off the bird but during the pilot I think they hinted this because when vaggie is telling angel the story of Alastor one of the images that shows up behind her is of alastor with husker who was covered by vaggie and we only saw his hat, claws and wings
If you look back at the pilot episode when they are showing all of the overlords, behind Alastor you might see husker behind him as a shadow. Which pretty much was a foreshadowing about husk a long time ago.😅
angel and husk are the best duo out of everyone in the show and you can't tell me otherwise
The cards, the cards, the cards will tell- shit wrong song
I bet a series just about Alastor on how he climbed up to the overlords would be super ACTION PACKED
Lets get our gamble freak on - Jabami Yumeko
I watched somewhere before that Husk was a overlord but I didn't believe he was so this revelation wasn't too shocking.
Husker would’ve learned really quick how Angel was the only one who could truly relate to the burden of soul slavery, and no doubt was waiting intently for Angel to let the facade fall so they could both reach out, finally being emotionally open to someone who truly understood each others pain.
I’m thinking maybe husk’s gambles for angels contract, and win?
Well, after learning that, I do think he really does look like one. The entire design looks like it could mix in quite well with the other overlords.

I love how we’ve got both humor and solid, emotional character arcs in this show. So beautifully done. It’ll be interesting to see how Husk’s backstory goes, though, if it causes conflict with Alastor…
I find it interesting that Hazbin Hotel, a series about demons trying to redeem while not really trying, teaches better lessons than many child cartoons lol
I just noticed that in the dance scene at the end of this short, Angel Dust has 2 arms. I thought he could only do 4 or 6.
"him an angel are both losers-" LMFAO THIS WAS SO FUNNY TO ME FOR NO REASON
I am just happy that Alastor just uses him for help with his plans and bugs him and does not treat him as bad as Val dose to angle
Husk is the gambling addiction of Garfield. As you can see in like episode 5 or something. He had an orange coffee mug that said “fuck Mondays”
I was shocked to hear he was an overlord, like that backstory is real sad bro and all because of Alastor,Husk lost everything, that really is sad
This musical number legit tickled my brain so hard
Angel's story is soo heartbreaking, even the songs was depressing😭

Another fact in ep4 we see angel dusts real name that is Anthony on Valentinos contract
