This is OPULENCE to the thousand degrees. The decors are FANTASTIC , the architecture is gorgeous , THE ELEGANCE of the rooms make you dream , the Grandeur of the mansion take my BREATH AWAY.
I loved everything except those horrible curtains in the living room. Blech! But everything else is perfection. Who would bother to build a house like this here? We don't have an ocean or even great weather to attract people to this area.

That was my thought. And, for me, if you're going to be inspired by something, that's the best possible house to be inspired by. I love the Phipps Westbury house. I didn't think a house could, or would, be built today that was so reminiscent of it.

What is interesting to know is that these mansions, or if you prefer McMansions, were only able to be built by buying up lots and lots of smaller houses and demolishing them. My sister was offered a ton of money for her house. The two neighboring houses had accepted the offers made to them, but she refused incurring what must be eternal wrath from those neighbors. 😂

@Elephant In The Room Yeah, but if you're going to have a house like that you probably want it to be in that low crime gated community. They have some nice homes like this on Delmar, but they are gated, too. It's not like people can just walk up to them. Can't say I blame then when some of the worst crime in the nation is just a few blocks away.
The crime rate in St Louis is deceptive. St Louis City is separated in these statistics from the greater St Louis Metro area which is uncommon in metropolitan cities. If you look at the Greater St Louis Area and St Louis City combined, it is right at the median when compared to the rest of the country.
