    "The car teaches pride,egotism, sadness,and folly.The bicycle teaches,modesty,the gift of oneself, energy, happiness. The car is the instrument of obesity, apathy,nervous depression and incapacity. The bicycle is the savior of the spirit, vitality, and youth." I am seventy years old..found this in the early 1970s from a french newspaper. You guys nailed it!!

      These days they could have added different things to that, because the bike does not only save your body and your mental health, its the environment. Cars, campers and trucks destroy the things we love when we go out there!

    • @yrureadingthisname
      @yrureadingthisname 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The car also allows me to travel 368km in three and a half hours while carrying luggage, camping gear and two other people. So I would say the car is the instrument of CAPACITY, luxury, ease of use, practicality and reliability. Just saying.

    • @kaffeemitcola6506
      @kaffeemitcola6506 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yrureadingthisname If you travel 368km in three hours or so, you do not see a lot while you are traveling. The people travel to the spots they love and luxury can be transaltet with egoism. Its so sad that people live only few years, because if a person has to cope with the things he or she is responsible for, it would not be such a pleasure to ruin the planet and live with the consequences after all. Also liebe Grüße

    1981 Ritchey mountain bike, 1982 Palo Alto road bike, 1983 Boone McReynolds custom road bike, 1992 Bontrager Racelite, 1999 Bruce Gordon Rock n Road, 2006, Serotta Legend Ti, 2016 Silva Cycles “Mountain Rando”. There were other bikes too, but these are the best ones. I still have the last two. The last three were custom and they were worth the extra effort and expense. I had to put up with extra abuse from Bruce Gordon - when you wanted to make any changes to his designs, you needed to be prepared to argue your point. Thanks for the great interview - maybe you could add this a regular feature. I would like to hear more about Fergus…

    I have always enjoyed cycling because it was the only thing I was ever good at. I actually had some pretty good years on the bike. Last several years I've gotten pretty down, though, as I have not been able to achieve my goals largely due to constraints of time and money. It's depressing to know that the older I get the less likely I can achieve my cycling dreams, and there's nothing I can do about it. How do you handle that, how do you make peace with that?
