I think part of the disparity is that a lot of those artists were literal children when the hits premiered. Now artists are hitting well after puberty so the ranges just aren’t possible

That's when artists really did sing, that's when musicians really played and that's when an artist earned his paycheck and award - you didn't get an award or paycheck for sampling someone else's music! Etta James, James Brown and so many other talented artists and groups EARNED their paychecks and they gave concertgoers a show to remember. Now, you can have someone make one song and called himself or herself an 'artist'. Heavy sigh.
Babyface was and is on a whole other level of songwriting when he wrote and composed this masterpiece. He’s a musical genius and discovered so many talented people like Tevin Campbell. I found about this song today. In middle, it was lunch time and I was eating but then, I heard this song and I instantly fell in love with this song, everyone was singing so peacefully and I felt like I was in heaven! It was such a vibe. But I lost it right after the song ended. I was asking my friends whats the name of this song. Fortunately, One of them, told me. I was so happy!! I will keep listening to this at least 5 times a day! I rate this song 10/10 :)
