Actually an interesting fact about that, apparently solitaire means solitary in french, so the original title of the song was Solitary which does fit the theme about the song which is completely different from the 1983 version. in this version its about a recluse who shuts himself away from a world moving toward nuclear war. When the song made its way to the United States with the Laura Branigan version, the lyrics were changed and solitaire became a reference to the card game rather than loneliness with the game being used as a metaphor for the singer enduring the neglect of her lover.
