My mediocre player was Ben Mcdonald. I had his 1989 upper deck error that was my biggest pack pulled card at the time. Ben actually has a youtube channel that I still watch. He would also sign through the mail, so I had like 15 cards that he signed for me. The guy is still awesome
I remember that Ben McDonald upper deck rookie (but it was 1990). Hype was very real!
And I NEVER pulled one! 😢😢

@@mangobango6970 I remember seeing dealers at local shows with stacks of McDonald Upper Deck rookies. In hindsight, we should’ve realized the cards weren’t rare.
Unless we were trying to pull one.
Jeff here: Big Ben turned in a pretty solid career, including some time with the Crew, but never lived up to the all-world hype he had coming in to the league.

In relation to Steve Avery's high school stats Joe Mauer only struck out one time in high school. I'm pretty sure the Twins even had the guy show up to Target field when they did Joe Mauers hall of fame induction ceremony as a joke. Crazy how good some of these players were at such a young age. .

I have 5-6 blood splatter cards from heritage, but no one has ever taken a intrest in them. Some are covered and others have 30-40 blood splats. All on the back of the cards, must of been an ink tube that exploded during the print process.

Thanks for all the great content. I’ve started to collect baseball recently and love going after the SSP. I’m thinking of getting a judge golden mirror. You guys really got me started looking for these cards. Thanks

Definitely agree about hitting bin. Alerting the buyer about a card when the bin is already a good price is dumb. The few cards where i hit the bin are some of the best purchases i have made. I have also not followed my own advice and sent a best offer only to lose the card to someone hitting the bin.
This rings so true with me, too! I’ve missed out on some cards by trying to save the extra buck.

SSP stands for Super Short Print.
It’s a rare image variation. So instead of a color or refractor parallel, there’s a different image.
Does that make sense?

Jeff here: BREWERS legend, Troy O’Leary! I remember when he came up with the Brew Crew, was supposed to be the next big thing. I was sad when he went to Boston, but I still cheered for him from afar.

the is probably a dumb question but when you talk about the Opening Day short prints, is that the name of the sp or are you talking about sp's that are found in the opening day brand cards? lol make sense?
There are no dumb questions in sports cards these days. It’s complicated!
We are taking about SP/SSP from the Topps Opening Day sets. These are really tough to find and often feature images found nowhere else!

Possibly is there a way to figure out the print run on the bowman anime ssp cards that arent numbered? idk how or I would try to figure out myself I jus wanna know since there "ssp" and not just "sp"
A great Twitter page calculates these odds - search for ToppsBB (Topps ProductionBB), they estimate about 1100 of the anime, so more SP than SSP.

Additionally - Was 10 in 1989 so Griffey consumed my childhood. But Julio Franco and 2 years later Juan Gonzalez was the mediocre ones for me. Great stances, big time hitters, and All-Time great Rangers
Loved those guys! And Julio played FOREVER! He could probably still hit .250 at his age now.
