      I drive a hyster 80 myself. I've seen several videos of these ultra long fork lifts and they look crazy to drive around. Those things are weapons of mass destruction

    Damn I miss this design of Carver. My folks had a 32 Carver Convertible. The newer hull designs just look way too artsy imo. But fantastic talent on the fork operator

    I am also a forklift operator. my lift has a capacity of 28 000 lb lbs = 14 ton. My bosses lift has a capacity of 35 000 lb, lbs = 17.5 ton. I work in the steel industry. and we need this kind of capacity. Together we can lift 63 000 lb, lbs = 31.5 ton. I love doing what I do.

      Marina lift are not built the same way as a typical fork lift, different dynamics and load.

    Wouldn't it have been better to drive backwards so he can see where he's going? This was standard procedure when I was a forklift driver when carrying loads that obscured your view.

      Mr Almahdy
      Normally you would go low and in reverse, yes, but if you don't have any option about which way you're going, and you have to go forward, then you have to improvise.
      And it's better to lift it up high so you can see where you're going, than to drive blindly. Even if you have to go very slow to keep stable.
      And I think that is what happened here.
      You don't always have perfect conditions to work in.

    • @dudewtf345
      @dudewtf345 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Colin Christie No driving backward up hill puts more weight forward increasing your chance of overloading your counter balance. You always back down hill with a heavy load and go forward up hill.

    a Carver boat IS a toy

  • @medellintravelguide612
    @medellintravelguide612 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Well, I am in the business and can tell you the physics and load center of that marina lift, at that angle in the water, is severely limited in how much it can lift without tipping over. Also, the operator has the boat way too high when going up the ramp backwards. It should only be a foot or so off the ground max! It is an accident looking to happen. Marina lifts are designed to lift boats from an upright, flat. level position not at an angle on a down ramp! While a Carver is a toy (like pushing a bathtub through the water), it is a heavy boat. Just watch what happens when he tries to pick up a 34-38Ft. Sea Ray! He will be getting wet and ruining the lift.
    The engine is probably a 6 Cylinder Cummins Diesel. That lift probably has the capacity to lift between 24-28,000 pounds to 24'. Current models can lift as much as 32,000Lbs to 54" high for dry stack storage requirements. Marina lifts also have a "down lift" feature so they can get the forks below the hull of a boat. Regular forklifts do not have this feature. The down mast is even to the ground. That down lift, below a flat level ground grade, also changes the dynamics of the lifting capacity and the amount of counterweight necessary to keep the lift from tipping over on a flat level ground environment. Yes, marina lifts are big beasts. They have to be for the job they are doing. They also cause many accidents every year because operators do not respect their limitations and capacities. Hope that marina has it's insurance up to date. It is not a matter of "if" it is a matter of "when"!

    • @catweasle5737
      @catweasle5737 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sandy Davis As a forklift operator, I would say he is carrying it way too high. I'm guessing so he can see where he is going. You are correct in saying it should be a foot or two off the ground. He should also be travelling in reverse.

    • @ChrisK-LTC
      @ChrisK-LTC 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sandy Davis Good points except for the fact that he got it out of the water without incident. Those lifts are designed to handle that kind of load center, and at that ramp angle. Those aren't just a generic forklift. And lifting from a ramp is a common practice.
