Amazing! Please continue adding episodes, it's getting harder and harder to learn about judo, the thinking behind the moves, the philosophy and History. It's a nice mix, some context and some technics! Thank you very much!
Breakfall are useful in real life. I studied hapkido in high school and college...8 years total in my teens and 20's. In my 40's, I slipped on ice in the parking lot and work and landed in a perfect side fall without even thinking. No broken bones.
Great video. When people ask me what martial art their child should take, I always tell them Judo first. Younger ones have a lot of energy, and Judo allows them to get their aggresion out safely. Even BJJ has more focus on arm bars and chokes that can be dangerous in the hands of a child. I've trained Judo as a teenager, but now focus for the last 20 years on street defence styles that have Judo and BJJ in their program. A seven year old that only learns punching and kicking as his/her playground defence, is going to regret what he/she does. Controlling their opponent, a.k.a. bully, on the ground until a teacher gets there is a much safer option for both. But sadly a lot of parents want a minature Bruce Lee to brag about. As an instructor I refuse to teach a "deadly art" until the child reaches high school level at 14 and can handle the hormones raging through middle school that causes girls to fight verbally and boys to fight physically because they are too young to date. There is such a thing as combat judo. I recently showed a Judo instructor of mine Kata Gatame standing to Osoto Gari all the way to the ground landing ontop of my opponent. Yeah...he was a little freaked out. Then Ogoshi controlling my opponent's fall so I was standing and had his arm fully locked out in an armbar. Gentle Way ?!?!...Maybe. LOL Great to see the falling techniques taught at level 1. Front rollouts to standing are level 9-10, but I've seen BJJ instructor's try to teach falling from level 9-10. Freaks out most new students. At high levels we actually delete the slap all together as the arm might not be available.
That's your daughter? I can't think of too many things is cool as a father with a black belt and his daughter practicing randori. Way to embody the true Spirit of Judo in just about every possible way!
Good video. Please learn to flow through and feel confident in your speaking. I got lost in the “uhh”s and started listening for them, it’s distracting. But the content is great! Thanks for the informative video. Love to ya brother
