      Lyten is trying to make lithium sulfur batteries as well. I don’t believe any battery breakthrough claim out there. Even if it’s true, they have to be able to produce billions of batteries to be serious. Nothing in a lab is even worth looking at for us. I’m sure Tesla is working with every single one of them.
      Remember Tesla wants to be the worlds largest producer of batteries. But they are the worlds largest consumer of batteries as well. They get first dibs of all battery tech.

    I got the Tesla insurance in IL. They default with a safety score of 90, which which put me in par with Progressive (the most affordable I could find for myself). Now that I have had for three months, my safety scores landing between 95 and 96 with the worst category being unsafe following (my follow distance is set to 1). My costs have dropped enough to make it worth keeping the insurance, sort of. I also noticed that on highway trips, my daily scores is 85 for chilled interstate driving. My local 4 mile trips in town are at or near 100.
    If you drive on the highway a lot, I would recommend not bothering with Telsa insurance. Also note there is no app for claims. You have to call an 800 number and wait a LONG time (hour +) to get any information on your insurance. A lady hit me (very light damage), and the cop got tired of waiting and gave me his email to email policy information that I didn't have. Tesla insurance does not provide insurance cards without requesting them. I have gotten no emails or snail from them. Just a debit deduction each month.
    After three months, I will probably go back to my old insurance company. I am saving a few dollars, but I don't feel Telsa insurance has any customer support worth noting. And when I really want my insurance company behind me, I do not feel saving $5 a month is a good trade off

    There is no magic. "Filling" a 900 mile battery with energy will take a LOOOONG time, and a SUPER high voltage feed. So while bigger better batteries are nice, they don't fix all the problems.

    • @lollol35
      @lollol35 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe that would be ok. You don't have to drive it to zero all the time. You could have it hovering at about 400 miles, and then filling it up over night. The 250W charching speed we have now, would probably be enough, if they could keep up that speed of about 1000 miles an hour, up to about the 80% of the 900 miles, I don't think there would be any real problems. 300 miles would be less than 20 minutes. Which would be a reasonable time to stop. Getting to say 375W would just be icing on the cake.

    • @stevejordan7275
      @stevejordan7275 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lollol35 I agree with you; taking as long time to charge is just fine. It's not even a good idea to run your battery all the way down to zero if you can help it.
      Long-term battery life management best practice is to charge to about 80% and decharge to about 20%, unless your specific journey requires more (i.e., don't go to the store and back, and then charge it.) Like an ICE car, you fill it *only when you need to;* in other words, as rarely as possible, and not after every trip.
      Why? Each charge cycle incurs a lifespan penalty (it's "bad" for the battery.) This is why you don't charge a battery at 70% SOC (unless you're riding to Mansfield.)
      Also, default charge at L2 (240V,) because each Level 3 (DC or 440V) charge also incurs a penalty.
      This varies by chemistry; a supercap or ultracap battery would be largely unaffected by such things (though we may determine otherwise once we have a thousand of them in use, and can start to determine best practices for supercapacitors and ultracapacitors; as of 2022, they're hardly out of labs yet.)

    I wonder if mileage driven affects insurance at all. I have Tesla insurance on my new model Y in Texas. But I drive very little. I drove my previous model 3 less than 10,000 mi in about 3 years. I'm driving even less now being retired.
    I have a problem in that my street is off a high speed boulevard and I have to make an aggressive turn to get onto my street. Otherwise I will be heavily tailgated. My score is about 92, all greens except for the aggressive turn.
    So I get bad marks for making an aggressive turn. But I drive very little mileage. That seems to be ignored in my insurance calculation.

Swirl marks all over my hood, chip over my rear passenger side door and the paint on my left front fender looked like pinched vinyl wrap. That was just the outside. 3 days later pretty much everything was disabled. Regen braking, hold, traction control, autopilot, lane assist and all safety features. Oh but wait a week before we actually try to fix all that. The paint is pure trash by the way. If you can, hold out for texas. Hopefully the paint shop will be a huge upgrade

    Well, if that has a 200% increase of current range (300 to 900), what could be done is decrease the pack weight by 2/3rds, which would increase range a little due to that weight savings. The EV Hummer would reduce from a 3000lb pack to 1000. Still not light, but that is a ton lighter, which should increase range rather well.
