  • According to classical physics, light is an electromagnetic wave that travels through space at a constant speed of 299,792,458 meters per second (often rounded to 3.0 x 10^8 m/s). This theory, known as classical electromagnetism, was developed in the 19th century by James Clerk Maxwell and is based on the idea that light is a self-propagating wave of electric and magnetic fields that oscillate perpendicular to each other and to the direction of the wave's propagation.
    On the other hand, according to quantum physics, light can also behave like a particle, known as a photon. In quantum mechanics, light is described as a stream of discrete particles that carry energy and momentum. The energy of a single photon is proportional to its frequency, and the momentum of a photon is proportional to its wavelength.
    This dual nature of light, as both a wave and a particle, is known as wave-particle duality, and it is one of the key concepts of quantum mechanics. Both the wave and particle nature of light are necessary to explain many of the phenomena observed in nature, including the photoelectric effect, which was the basis for the development of quantum mechanics in the early 20th century.

    Thank you for your instructive videos. I've included 3 hints for the following video on EM waves, i.e., photons; I hope you will like them and agree in some way.
    1) A better way to understand EM propagation is by "electromagnetic pulse", not EM waves. This way makes Eintein's Nobel Price intuitive, the EM being compact makes it able to interchange 100% of its momentum and energy with, for example, compact electrons. Photons with a compact EM field with a bigger quantum system, in the same way as compact electrons with a bigger quantum system as needed and seen in the Double slit experiment (big quantum system space that covers both slits but its compact entity can pass through a tiny slit).
    2) Also, a pulse defines better the no internal variation of E & B (electric and magnetic fields) as expressed by the relativistic theory; the proper internal time variation in the quantum space is zero (nothing changes at speed C). Meanwhile, Delta t = 0, the passage of time always passes; photons are not eternal, they are created, travel, and interact through time.
    3) From Maxwell's equation, the electric and magnetic field, both increments and decrements at the same time; this is an oscillation that corresponds more to a pendulum than a spring oscillation. In an oscillating spring, the kinetic energy of the mass increases meanwhile the internal energy in the spring decreases and vice versa; energy is conserved at all times. In an oscillating pendulum, the kinetic energy of the mass increases meanwhile the gravitational potential energy increases in value, both incrementing (and vice versa); there is no conflict with energy conservation because the potential energy has an opposite sign with the kinetic energy. In the same way, magnetic energy has the opposite sign with respect the electric energy, so both can increase in value and decrease together in time! the great EM wave that Maxwell show to the world.
    If you are an open mind, I can recommend a short book on Amazon "Space, main actor of quantum and relativistic theories" (an extension of a scientific paper with the same name). Here you can read simple ideas with profound implications, regards

    I hope you explain it but what I really want to understand is how can a photon transmit electromagnetism while carrying no info on electric charge. This is fundamental but nobody seems able to explain it in understandable terms.

      A photon is not exaclty a "particle" . Its just a small pulse of the em wave with a fixed energy.

    Question: If the magnetic field produces the electric field and vice-versa, why are they represented in phase? I could think as the mag. field converting in el. field and vice-versa, so they should be out of phase: when one increases the other should decrease. Thank you.

      no magnetic feild(MF) do not produce electric feilds(EF). but the this shown here is that whenever there is an EF or MF there is always an MF or EF along with it. in certain hypothesis like when charge is at rest(which is not possible) only EF dominate and MF tends to 0.

      @@arpitsharma7495 nah. We can't since that changes everything about EM WAVES. You just contradict Maxwell. Maxwell himself said that since Electric field gives rise to a magnetic field, it should also be vice versa. And it was proved later correct.

    Sir hope you are doing well.
    If a quantity say x is directly proportional to another quantity y, does it imply that y is also proportional to x.
    Sir shouldn't the friction be due to intermolecular forces of repulsion and not attraction۔
    Because if the contact forces are attractive ،they would have no component perpendicular to the surface to balance attractive gravitational force.

    What I find so curious is who decided to make electromagnetism perfectly perpendicular? It could have been any sort of ratio.
    Do the weak and strong forces exhibit such bizarre anti-symmetry? Do we really understand them enough to make a judgement about them? I feel like we take a lot of that for granted because it's so hard or nearly impossible to measure directly the axes of interaction. Let's be honest, light and mass therefore energy are the only metrics we have to measure with.

      learning need no age if you want to learn you can since this lecture's theory is all of class 12 but the methmatical part is not taught in 12th if you find it interestiong keep your study going it will boost your mind
      i am also giving 12th boards this year i.e. after 23 all my board exams will be over and around a month later i.e after attempting all competitive exams i will be free to learn all and i will kill it then.
      so the main thing is keep study going on(more importantly of 12th) if you got spare time then you should focus on QM

    What if we describe subatomic particles as spatial curvature, instead of trying to describe General Relativity as being mediated by particles?
    Quantum Entangled Twisted Tubules: "A theory that you can't explain to a bartender is probably no damn good." Ernest Rutherford
    The following is meant to be a generalized framework for an extension of Kaluza-Klein Theory. Does it agree with the “Twistor Theory” of Roger Penrose? During the early history of mankind, the twisting of fibers was used to produce thread, and this thread was used to produce fabrics. The twist of the thread is locked up within these fabrics. Is matter made up of twisted 3D-4D structures which store spatial curvature that we describe as “particles"? Are the twist cycles the "quanta" of Quantum Mechanics?
    When we draw a sine wave on a blackboard, we are representing spatial curvature. Does a photon transfer spatial curvature from one location to another? Wrap a piece of wire around a pencil and it can produce a 3D coil of wire, much like a spring. When viewed from the side it can look like a two-dimensional sine wave. You could coil the wire with either a right-hand twist, or with a left-hand twist. Could Planck's Constant be proportional to the twist cycles. A photon with a higher frequency has more energy. ( E=hf, More spatial curvature as the frequency increases = more Energy ). What if gluons are actually made up of these twisted tubes which become entangled with other tubes to produce quarks. (In the same way twisted electrical extension cords can become entangled.) Therefore, the gluons are a part of the quarks. Quarks cannot exist without gluons, and vice-versa. Mesons are made up of two entangled tubes (Quarks/Gluons), while protons and neutrons would be made up of three entangled tubes. (Quarks/Gluons) The "Color Force" would be related to the XYZ coordinates (orientation) of entanglement. "Asymptotic Freedom", and "flux tubes" are logically based on this concept. The Dirac “belt trick” also reveals the concept of twist in the ½ spin of subatomic particles. If each twist cycle is proportional to h, we have identified the source of Quantum Mechanics as a consequence twist cycle geometry.
    Modern physicists say the Strong Force is mediated by a constant exchange of Mesons. The diagrams produced by some modern physicists actually represent the Strong Force like a spring connecting the two quarks. Asymptotic Freedom acts like real springs. Their drawing is actually more correct than their theory and matches perfectly to what I am saying in this model. You cannot separate the Gluons from the Quarks because they are a part of the same thing. The Quarks are the places where the Gluons are entangled with each other.
    Neutrinos would be made up of a twisted torus (like a twisted donut) within this model. Gravity is a result of a very small curvature imbalance within atoms. (This is why the force of gravity is so small.) Instead of attempting to explain matter as "particles", this concept attempts to explain matter more in the manner of our current understanding of the space-time curvature of gravity. If an electron has qualities of both a particle and a wave, it cannot be either one. It must be something else. Therefore, a "particle" is actually a structure which stores spatial curvature. Can an electron-positron pair (which are made up of opposite directions of twist) annihilate each other by unwinding into each other producing Gamma Ray photons?
    Does an electron travel through space like a threaded nut traveling down a threaded rod, with each twist cycle proportional to Planck’s Constant? Does it wind up on one end, while unwinding on the other end? Is this related to the Higgs field? Does this help explain the strange ½ spin of many subatomic particles? Does the 720 degree rotation of a 1/2 spin particle require at least one extra dimension?
    Alpha decay occurs when the two protons and two neutrons (which are bound together by entangled tubes), become un-entangled from the rest of the nucleons

    6:20 not true! light is not electromagnetic oscillations!
    arguments: 1.there is no exist direct logical and/or practical connection between Maxwell's equations and essence of light (this is only unproven theory)
    2. light is not interact with electrical or/and magnetic fields like radio waves
    3. !!! in a semiconducting environment (like sea water) electromagnetic waves quickly quiet down. moreover, the higher their frequency, the faster they fade/quiet down/ . based on frequency of light, calculations show that light must quiet down in sea water above !3-5mm only!, but fact is that light penetrates tens of meters away !!!
    arguments are valid and for Gamma and X-rays :)
    blind faith in relativism and quantum mechanics is very misleading.
    the laws of nature are the same and valid for all levels of organization of matter !!! all processes in nature are easily explained by classical physics, without postulates and paradoxes .
    P.S. the moon landing is undoubtedly a great achievement for Indian science, but unfortunately for all the human race, space exploration is not possible based on "liquid fuel" :)
