    I Now understand why gas gauges are notoriously off. These gas gauges are using resistance or ohms. The float rides up and down a rheostat depending on the placement of the float the system will send a certain amount of voltage as a feedback. Many things can affect resistance this would be highly inaccurate. In industry measurements have to be accurate. We use a system of 4 to 20 milliamps as a feedback with a device called a transducer or load cell. With a resistant base system (ohms) I would suggest making sure all your electrical connections are corrosion free and tight. Re-strip the wires apply silicone dielectric grease reconnect them tightly. If you can pull out the float and spray it down with contact cleaner. Use non-combustible contact cleaner and make sure it's completely dry before you put it back in place. Good luck

    This is such a great feature, took me a few minutes from start to finish looking at the existing sender and getting it reading accurate. Just awesome. Great gauges.

    I have 2016 Audi A6 V6 Quattro 11000 miles. Fuel range Gauge has incorrect reading. When I fill-up, it shows 490-510 mile which never happen.
    Dealer says that nothing wrong. I need some advise.

    Great information. I recently replaced the gas gauge sending unit/sensor on my car but it still shows only show 7/8 full which is the same as it was before I replaced it. Do I needs to recalibrate the sending unit after the installation so it will read the correct level? Thank you!

    • @Speedhut
      @Speedhut  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you will need to calibrate the gauge to the sending unit.

      @@tousshong9438 Because it was pretty obvious you would have to re calibrate it when replacing a sending unit.

      @Hellsong89 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vegasjack1 Well if you replace old one with identical sending unit logic predicts it should work with out calibration as its same unit. How ever if its not, then you need to do the calibration obviously.

      @@Hellsong89 So, you don't think just disconnecting the wires to the same guage requires re-calibration? Let alone putting in a new one.

    How to know sensor wire in fuel gauge using multimeter?

  • @slideways2004
    @slideways2004 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    @speedhut On the manual calibration, does the "full" have to be calibrated first?? I ask this because there is no way for me to empty my gas tank. Can I start the calibration with an empty tank on the E setting??

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking of the same thing. While its sure possible to calibrate gauge on the road side when gas runs out its still bit of a pain in the ass, where most people probably empty gas tank by driving short distances at home stead etc or in custom build have empty tank that has been in storage/been just made want to calibrate empty, fill up and calibrate full.
      Logically it should be possible to do ether way, but only speedhut can say for certain.

    • @Speedhut
      @Speedhut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      When doing a manual calibration on our fuel level gauge you don't need to calibrate full or empty an a specific order. You can do full first or empty first. You can also do them at separate times. Keep in mind that the gauge will not read accurate until both ends are calibrated.
