Just started trading the wheel last week which seems to me to be a lot lower risk than buying shares.
However there is a good chance I get my first assign tomorrow. Did 7 $40 GME puts today early in day. I figured it would get close to 40 end of week but was not expecting it to do it today. Oops. Although I am one of those who actually like it long term but little nervous about next week if I get assigned... This will def be my first test of my trading abilities.

@@edwardrhoads7283 the wheel strategy is definitely a great play...but playing it on the right stock is even more important and gamestop is not one of those stock. You will be exercised to buy it at $40, when gamestop is really worth less than $20.....you will be bagholding a less profitable stock for some time, there's better plays out there than gamestop.

@@kaosaelee8832 long term I think GME will turn around and be a 60-80 stock so getting it in the 30-40 range I am okay with and the premiums are really big right now. Almost got shares at 40 yesterday but I managed to get out with a profit before it crashed to 39 and then sold $30 puts for next week. In general I try to stay 20-30% under price for GME on my puts.

how much does it matter to the timeframe you are trading in and type of trader? 1 day vs 1 hour vs 5min charts.
in stocks, it seems stop loss would allow better protection losing less, where in an option you lose the whole 2% if it doesn't work out. am i understanding correctly?

Switched to options. More ways to get out of bad trades and more flexibility appeals to me instead of hoping that the stock you picked goes up. Plus it feels like more of a strategy and a game

But you have to also inform that at expiry if your stock goes down you have to book loss in option but if you buy stocks no need to book loss you can wait to raise price in stocks.

Hi Markus, thanks for the show. Learned a lot.
How do you handle the 90% profit taker? Is it a Linit Order or a manual task which would require to watch the market? Do you remove it one or two days before expiration to take the whole premium or do you close the position always to sell new ones with a new higher premium per day.

Nice video, as always. thank you. how is the holiday so far at Florida ? Hope you get back home safely. I have a question, in TD if I would like to allocate certain amount of money for doing trading only and to monitor the day to day progress, is it possible? I know that they don't have the option to make sub account like IB. But can it be done using a group or any other thing ? so one group for investment, one for options and perhaps one for trading !! If it is doable, will it be worth for you to make a training video on it ? thank you

@@alanhill6786 thanks Markus. It's not difficulties in investing. I was just curious if there is any way to group transactions in thinkorswim, say one group for investing and one group for trading. So you can monitor day to day progress of trading and investing separately.

So in the case of selling puts, does the 2% rule apply? Lets say I sell a 20 strike. Since you could be obligated to buy 2k worth of shares, that would mean you should have an account size of 100k.

My advice is put a lot of.yiur money into passive ETFs and let it grow slowly. VOO, QQQ, DIA, IWM... Invest in the indexes. Also some high return mutual funds..... Stocks and other ETFs can return more but have to be baby sat more. Either way you can set stop loss on holdings and limits etc so you will exit when the price hits certain points. Alerts also help.

My account size is 25 thousand at the moment. How big should I grow it in order to quit my job and trade for a living. I'm thinking at least 400 thousand. That's going to take at least 10 years.

    • @rockwelltradingservices
      @rockwelltradingservices  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

It depends on your living expenses and your trading skills. For me, my living expenses are around $15,000 and I know I can make 60% per year.
      So the formula is:
      $15,000 * 12 = $180,000 / 60% = $300,000
Just fill in YOUR numbers and you'll have your answer.
      Does this help? 👍

If your in and out the market on the same day?

Well, the Pattern Day Trading (PDT) only applies if you are trading a MARGIN account, and if your account is smaller than $25,000. If you are trading a cash or a retirement account, or if your account is larger than $25,000, the PDT rule doesn't apply.

Hi Jay, I think there might be a misunderstanding: Being flagged as a "Pattern Day Trader" is NOT a good thing because it limits your ability to trade.
Maybe you are thinking about electing "Mark-to-Market" status as a trader, which gives you preferred tax treatment?
I just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing.
