@@rajeshkakadia8605 Yeah the guy who used to live in a storage unit bought an apartment lol. Youre hilarious. Also you buy a condo, you rent an apartment.
you all prolly dont give a shit but does any of you know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the login password. I would love any help you can give me.
I think this is awesome, screw all the haters. In all honesty , the dude really didnt wreck anything, or put all that many holes in the wall, the entire set up can be taken down in a few hours with little damage to walls, all u would have to do is cover the holes and add a fresh coat of paint and it would be as good as new.
CoLew Exactly. Usually the people who put a lot of work into the living space, are the easiest to deal with. I used to own multiple rentals, but it became too much of a hassle. Even with a property manager, etc. Not for me!
Are u not allowed to make reversible changes to your flat or apartment in US or Canada? In Germany your landlord can't tell u to not do this kind of stuff. If it's not a permanent build or endanger the overall safety of the building u can do that.
I don't think so. Sure, there are a couple of holes here and there but nothing that can't be easily fixed. Most of the construction is on the wood. Now if it was the other way around that would be a problem!
Even though I have three of the electronic one, I found best is neodymium magnet as sheetrock screws don’t penetrate below the outer paper surface. To prevent hold rotation, maybe a little silicone caulk on the backside to add friction - let it dry for reuse later. Most of the time Phillips head screws are fine, just predrilled and use an impact driver. Nice wall, hope the landlord don’t mind.
Nice video. thanks. 2 quick tips for finding studs if you have baseboards and no stud finders: remove the baseboard and hammer some small nails in every 1.5 inches until you find it. The holes will be hidden by the baseboard once you nail it back. The other tip is via electrical outlets. They are always mounted next to a stud, so you can unscrew the cover and figure out on which side it's located. Then measure 16 inches for the next one.
@kimpierre7977 spackle, sand, texture, paint. You don't think this guy's knows how to clean up after himself? If the landlord sees that they might spaz though.
We didn't ask the Land lord when we built ours, He lives next door. When he popped round to see what all the fuss was about he asked could his grandchildren come and climb : )
If only half of the people commenting would work as hard as this man we would be set, im sure if he has this much work ethic he is not homeless. Watching a video to hate on it is ridiculous, if your not interested move on
Way to get after it stud!!! I'm super impressed with your drive. I'm building my own home wall as we speak so i can really appreciate all the hard work and patience that goes into this kind of project. GREAT JOB!
While one part of me can't wait to build something similar, the other part just calculated the price equals three years of subscription to my bouldering gym.. Soo I guess not. Great job tho !
I just finished my own climbing wall:D if you are still looking for holds, you may want to ask at a nearby climbing gym for old holds - they often sell them really cheap or you may even get them free
just letting everyone and you know, in order to be safe from oganic fumes, you will need a charcoal filter mask (not the one used in the video). That one is for particles only and organic fumes will mostly be composed of gases instead of particles
The quickest way to find a stud is to look at an outlet. There will be a stud on one side of the outlet. Once you find the stud use a tape measure and extend it making sure that a 16 inch number is on that stud.
Another method to get smells out of mattresses is an ozone generator. You can get one from Amazon for $70. This is what hotels use to get cigarette smoke out of rooms, & for getting smoke damage smell out of a house after a fire. I bought and used one for a car bought from a heavy smoker. It works great. They need to be used in a closed room/space. You set a timer, let it do its thing, then you have to let the space air out before returning. You don't want to breathe this stuff in the levels it takes to get smells out of fabric. Read manufacturers directions.
Sick! Thanks for sharing! My husband and I are getting ready to buy a house and I will be building one in our garage or basement. I can't wait to be able to train even when we have a baby and I can't wait for my kids to have fun on our creation!
You can get an annual membership to a rock climbing gym for a lot less money. That has the added benefit of more variety and the chance to meet cool people. I applaud your efforts but it seems like too much effort and not enough payoff.
It isn't that easy for everyone. I'm thankful this is up. My husband and I are getting ready to start a family and being a mom makes getting to the gym tough (assuming we have one available). I'm looking forward to building a wall in my garage or basement in the home we are getting ready to buy! It will make it easy for me to continue to train with a baby and make a great place for my kids to grow and learn.
Great build! I love the angles - you've got a little bit of everything to keep your wall interesting for a long time. As far as set screws go, it's only a minor inconvenience if your holds don't come with pre-drilled holes for screw placement. Often the simplest approach to prevent a hold from spinning is to just wedge a secondary hold (usually just a foot chip) against the primary hold along the axis of rotation. This will lessen the need for set screws in general, which will keep your wall free of unnecessary screw holes.
Definitely over engineered, but better over than under. I think $2000 is testimony to the build quality also. Love the video, loads of detail, time lapse was done well and voice over was great.....two quick questions - 1. Do you own your own place? and 2. Are your neighbours still friendly?....Anyways....legend!
MaryNAdam I do. Being a landlord and having to repair the damage comes out of our pocket. The tenants usually don't cover it. Requiring the land lord to raise prices for future tenants. So when you ask who cares. Renters paying higher prices and landlords should care.
Great! I'm planning on builing one but in my country it's very unlikely i could find those holds. Any idea on how i could make them with easy access materials? Thanks a lot for sharing!
Seems like he is on top of it. I assume he talked to the necessary person before taking on a construction of this size. Great video! But also RIP landlord.
Haha, "Robson" head screws, huh bud? Do you know how to get bourbon stains out of ka-hakey pants? I hear that's a popular question on the assistant park supervisor exam! Might want to stock up on some jal-apeno chips too! I think i hear the winds of shit blowing... In the end it's all just water under the fridge anyway
Very nice project, but to pitty that you didnt use the space at the side of the biggest wall. You could have placed a pole and attach a cheat of plywood there for extra routes
For the fall zone, is there an affordable and safe alternative to laying out multiple crashpads? My wall will be indoors (garage) so have space to store away right next to it. Thanks for the help!
Word of advice, never rent anything to this guy lol
busa89 lmaooo “you said I could drill holes if I patched them after”

A landlords nightmare this guy is
This can all easily be reversible, with minimal work to patch up any holes. I own multiple rentals, trust me. This guy is the least of your concerns.

Some lease contracts will have a clause about not screwing or nailing things through the drywall. At the very least you may lose your deposit
I think you deserve more praise for this clearly rad build. It's a thing of beauty.
This has to be one of the most thorough how-to videos on TH-cam! Thanks for sharing.
If you built this in 2021 I would have reason to believe you are a millionaire
did you ask the landlord before this build just curious on how he took it lol

iirc he didn't say anything about doing this to save money. imo, he's probably more comfortable working out at home alone than at a gym around others.
thanks a lot, I appreciate that you detailed the process thoroughly
Rare earth magnet is THE BEST way to find studs in a drywalled wall. Works very well in lath/plaster as well. Studfinders are for the birds.
A lot of work ! Congratulations man, you did it by yourself, Very good design !

How did you do that without the landlord not kicking you out
