    13 albums in most bands keep repeating themselves, Opeth keeps reinventing themselves. Still sounds like Opeth, yet something new at the same time. Just brilliant!

    Aw shit, this popped up on my feed and the official Opeth channel song didn't , and I'm not even angry, this is my favorite prog rock reaction channel. Love the reaction ! Can't wait for the new Opeth and new Tool!
    Edit: Holy shit! That song was awesome! I love the new Opeth, as a big progressive fan, I couldn't love this more. I like the old Opeth but not the biggest fan of growls but don't mind them with Opeth but the new Opeth is defiantly my jam! Really good!

    9:49 That's why I really like your channel, Jim. You understand Opeth. Opeth is about great music. They will never be stuck in any specific heavy music genre. Opeth is Opeth. Whatever they do is always special and unique. That's why I love them. We need more fearless bands like Opeth.

    • @BayouMaccabee
      @BayouMaccabee 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @MartinaHorvat-g3g I like it a lot. One of my favorites of all new 2024 releases (of the 2024 releases I've listened to so far).
      How about you?

    • @MartinaHorvat-g3g
      @MartinaHorvat-g3g 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@BayouMaccabee Although I know about Opeth since their beginning, I avoided them because of their growl singing. It was only 3 years ago that my daughter played Ghost of Perdition and I thought it wasn't so bad, but I had no idea what a rabbit hole it would lead me down. In Cauda Venenum was the album that made me truly appreciate them, even the older albums. , because it was interesting to hear how they develop. I just digested all their albums during those three years and The Last Will and Testament came as a great reward for me. I liked it from the first, but only after a few listening (as Mikael himself says) I felt even more than expected, I can't describe it. I simply admire that talent. For me, it really is the album of the year, and even more than that, because I listen to a lot of music, I've heard competitive albums and there are good ones, but only Opeth sounds original and incredibly creative to me, even when I compare them with themselves in their past albums. That's what I appreciate most about them, their albums are made to last.

    • @BayouMaccabee
      @BayouMaccabee 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@MartinaHorvat-g3g Well said. Similarly for me, I didn't really like the growl vocals that much either at first, but Opeth was THE band who opened my mind up to it, so I have moved on to appreciate other bands with growl. Opeth is my #1 album for the year too. Another amazing 2024 album from a "growling" metal band is the new one from Blood Incantation - "Abolute Elsewhere", which is also a Top 5 album for me from 2024. Put those two albums along with: Guenna - "Peak of Jin'Arrah", Anciients - "Beyond the Reach of the Sun", and Jupiter Fungus - "Garden Electric"; and it rounds out my personal Top 5 metal albums of the year.

    • @MartinaHorvat-g3g
      @MartinaHorvat-g3g 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @BayouMaccabee
      Yes, Absolute Elsewhere is a sonically very effective album and I immediately put it on my list of albums, but as I said, there is not much originality, after 2-3 listens I had no need to listen to it anymore. The same thing with Beyond the Reach of the Sun. I don't think they are bad albums, just compared to TLWAT I think they are overrated. I like the album Iotunn - Kinship a bit more - also nothing particularly new but somehow it affects me more. I haven't heard the others you mentioned and I look forward to listening to them.

    After a year I STILL love this love this song. It's so eclectic with widely different styles mixed perfectly, from almost modern operatic stuff through metal, then on to bluesy acoustics on to rock, all within a progressive envelope. And Mikael reached a new level with his voice and singing technique.

    this channel has become a nice place for me to find new prog / rock bands i might like or old bands i used to like and forgot about. I also want to "give back" and contribute to the effort by suggesting interesting songs. Ive been trying to get u to listen to APC for awhile now with no success. so just for sake of variety , how do you feel about Alice in chains? i find them to be a corner stone in alt-rock with great songs like Rooster / Man in a box etc. if u r not familiar with them reacting to one of those songs could be a great addition to your channel.

    I'm liking these 2 new songs, this is the best of Opeth I've heard since Watershed. Anyways, I've already posted this once before but check out "Symphony X - The Odyssey" for an epic journey or "Symphony X - Paradise Lost" for one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. Also if you haven't check out some Winger, or Kip Winger's solo stuff which is fantastic. "How far Will we go" or "Endless circles" from his solo stuff, and maybe "Always Within Me" or for some harder stuff "Blind Revolution Mad" or "Junkyard dog (Tears on Stone)"...

    I'm even newer to the ever evolving wonder band that is Opeth than you sir....just getting into my 6 the album of theirs....Damnation....and it took about I'd say the first 10 seconds of that album for me to fall in love with it.. Damnation shoes alot of life to the Floyd but again it feels new and epic.....so far so flipping great after 6 albums....and I totally agree with your comments particularly about how they seem to have evolved and matured. They do kind of borrow alot from Rainbow/D Purple yes but like I've said on my reviews...they are also something new and special to the evolution of rock/prog/metal....along with Ghost and Nightwish they are the living future of great original and inspiring epic music. I hope a Brit band can join in the Nordic renaissance one day....Radiohead are great and could stake a worthy claim with new directions in near future but they need to bravely evolve again like they did with OK and kid a.... Anyway great comments!!
