Whether or not this is a first time or second or third time being disassembled and reassembled, it is an excellent video for those who are up to the challenge of replacing a battery, etc.
My only concern is that the outer glass screen cover breaks very easily, and I would caution anyone doing this to be absolutely sure you heat the seal around the glass to thoroughly soften it, while at the same time protecting the LCD Display, prior to prying it off.
This video shows the types of household tools that may come in handy when attempting to remove the glass by cutting the seal along the edges of the glass, much like an iPhone and an iPad.
I love seeing these "how to" videos! It's very interesting to see what's inside and how it all links together!!
    Great Video Mr. Pham!!!!

Nice observation about the outer glass screen cover. How hot did you need to get it before the seal softens? I'm going to use a heat gun with a nozzle, but don't want to cook the ipod in the process. :)

@@vk2ig I was playing around with a very old iPod that was in very very bad shape, didn’t work, and I did manage to get the screen worked mostly loose with a good amount of heat, but as I was trying to pry it off, like the guy does in the video, it just kinda shattered into pieces and that was that!
Just be super careful because I have no idea where to get replacements and the one I was messing around with his garbage anyways it was burned out so I thought I would explore a little bit.

Take care, In my opinion, this is not a "first time disasembly". Glue seems to come too easily in every places. And, as some have already point, the battery is glued into the body and need to be unglued before slidding the internals from the body.
Plus, he has lost the spring that goes into the black plastic piece under the click wheel, so did not put it back. Not to mention the screws that have been left away too,
Aniway, this is a nice video showing (almost) all the steps/things to do to dissable/reassemble the 5gen nano.

You're right. I just did this, and there is adhesive in several areas that has to be removed.

Hello, what is the function of that spring ?, and what to do in case of losing it?

I really like your video because I'm an electrician and I just needed the basic steps to disassemble my old ipod that I really wanted to get working again. Whats missing here is your taking one apart for the third or fourth time. No glue in your way. Getting off the glass on the front and the camera cover takes a small amount of heat and alot of patience. I will say agan alot of patience to not break anything. You have to get a razor blade between the nano and the glass and give just enough pressure until the glue lets go. The camera cover is easier than the front. Another tip is there is some glue holding the battery to the housing so before trying to slide everything out you need to use something like a razor blade and push it down from the top of the nano to separate the battery from the housing. Be VERY CAREFUL you dont puncture the battery as it could combust and cause a fire. This is just some things I found taking apart my ipod. Im not an expert .

Very helpful. This video gave me what the other lack - the reassembly of the parts! Thank you.

Advise: I learned you can insert a piece of plastic of some kind between the housing and the battery to release the glue holding the two together. The glue isn’t solidified, so the plastic usually slides OVER the glue when you carefully force it in, allowing the internals to slide out easier.

should have read this before i started taking mine apart. I was able to do everything without breaking anything until the end where the damn glue inside caused me to rip the switch cable, now i got to order a new one :l

@@Demonanimator Yea, it was a bust. The part came in today and I was able to finish fixing it and it works!! A little worse for wear but the important thing is that everything functions as it should. :)

I am only an electrician but I play around with electronics on my off time. It was very hard for me to get between the ipod and the glass with a razor. I used a heat gun to heat it up a little bit and it pulled up enough for me to get the glass off.

I have the nano completely disassembled and am waiting for the new battery

  • @sirnigelthornberry2922

The battery has adhesive on it that needs dealing with in order to actually slide the internals out. I feel this iPod has been disassembled before to make this video look less unprofessional. That's fine, practice makes perfect, but that's a crucial step that got overlooked in this video.
    Edit: th-cam.com/video/HRuV5DrnG8M/w-d-xo.html
Fast forward to 3:00 of that video to get what I mean. Don't actually click on the 3:00 as it'll only take you to the third minute of this video.
