I cry every time when Melchior rises and sings, "You watch me, just watch me". what a beautiful way to portray someone choosing to live on, instead of ending his life, after his world has been destroyed.
@@Allison_Slayze was on the floor crying because he found out the girl he “loved” passed away while pregnant with their baby (she died from a botched abortion her mother forced her to get). There are many reasons why Spring Awakening is an important show but in my opinion, the most important reason is to show the dangers of sheltering your children and to show change. The show is told purely from the perspective of the children, this allows other teens to see themselves in these characters and also allows parents to see things from their children’s pov. lastly, the sex scenes. One possible purpose for these scenes is to explore whether ideas about sex arise naturally in human beings or are taught by outside forces. Another possibility is that Wedekind uses children rather than adults because adults may have an easier time seeing their own flaws and mistakes when they are represented in youthful forms. It’s also to raise questions and provoke thoughts about how we as a society choose to bring up the topic with our children. Melchiors parents are more okay with him learning about it. He has a good understanding of it, why we do it and the consequences of it. Wendla’s mother isn’t okay with her daughter knowing and this is the major reason for Wendla’s pregnancy and eventual death. There are many bootlegs of the show here on youtube if you want to watch it (though you should probably wait a few more years considering you’re very young). if you want to find out more about the theme, the point, and just why the show exists in general there are many sources online talking about it and there’s even a documentary from last year that covers that and also shows clips from the reunion concert in 2021. Hope this helps ☺️

The Moritz here isn’t the Moritz on the recording. John Gallagher Jr left the show before Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele did. I believe it’s Blake Bashoff performing as Moritz here.
If you watch any other performance of this song, when Jonathan grabs their hands he just pulls lightly. Here, you can see him PULL his friends toward him, and clutch them TIGHT. I feel like That was him pulling the ACTORS toward him, and singing those lyrics to THEM and to the whole cast; he was going to remember Spring Awakening for the rest of his life. This comment is late af but John Gallagher Jr said the act 1 hair was a result of him teasing and hairspraying his hair to hell and back to make it as messy as possible and for act 2 the hairstylist for the show came in and worked their magic to make it as extreme as possible
The way Johnathan squeezes his eyes shut for just a second and has a death grip on their hands during, "I won't let them stray from my heart" as if he's trying to commit the moment and the line and its meaning to him to memory is heartbreaking

I always tear up at this part...I've read the script (original and the musical) and it put me in tears in the middle of the lounge at my dorm. This musical is the only musical to ever make me cry and I'm proud to admit that.
This song brings me to tears every time I hear it, but it has me sobbing every time I see it. It's so hard to watch because it breaks my heart. Jon and Lea performing together always gives me chills.
Found out on tumblr that you can sing this song to the tune of On My Own from Les Mis and it would still sound good. (With some modifications, of course. But not much)
You can barely hear it, because Blake is so much quieter than Jonathan and Lea, but my absolute favorite part of this song is when Moritz says "You are not alone." Especially when you consider the original ending from the 2001 workshop, where Moritz is trying to convince Melchior to end his own life so that he doesn't have to be alone anymore.
Will the people who own the rights to the high-quality footage of this sell the DVDs, for goodness' sake? I've watched the musical eight times already in 240 quality. I NEED the damned DVD. Yes, the ones with Lea and Jon. I guess I'll watch the movie, but I want the DVD of this cast.

@marjoleintje1993 She was 14 years old when they offered her the part. She was in the cast for the workshops, off-broadway, and broadway. I think she ended her time with Spring Awakening when she was 22.

The way Lea sings "the shadows falling" at around 1:53 is what heaven must sound like
I got sick of Lea Michele's voice watching glee, but watching this it's undeniable that she's an extraordinary performer.

Maybe she got sick of the voice-editing they did on her voice. I did.
Jon has such incredible expressions, this is the moment that makes me cry yet its one of my favourite songs

Lucy Bee pretty sure it’s a wig
God Is A Hamster It’s not jgj has said that it’s teased upwards
It’d take super glue to get mine to look like that
When Lea Michele shows up you fucking stop what you are doing and listen.

This always brings me to tears--I actually saw them on Broadway. I sat on stage. It was beautiful
Rvilla360 met them multiple times with pictures taken with them - our group had seen them 11 times and they knew us after #3. AWESOME people!
My heart aches!!! THE best musical of modern times.
Honestly

Lea's voice is
low-key just cried in the middle of class
3:34 damn he knows this guy is filming
lovelion2001 lol
BYE
lovelion2001 Is not the first time I’ve seen him look at the cameras at the audience, he always knows he’s being filmed 🤭
Lol. That really scared me for a second.
WHY. WHY DID MORITZ AND WENDLA HAVE TO DIE?!? why, it hurts so bad...
I like when Melchior starts singing he places his hand where Moritz had it. It really shows that he feels his presence
Lea Michele's part when she first entered here was...
Im speechless.
The soundtrack doesn't do this song justice. At 1:55, I wish they had the just the drums and Jonathan's voice on the track. It's much more moving.
Jonathan Groff is literally perfect in this scene! He is SUCH a good actor!
Lea is ridiculously talented, her singing looks so effortless in this yet she sings in perfectly! Such a good performance from the 3 of them:)
I'M CRYING VERY HARD DON'T MIND ME
Moritz ghost looks out of it. I dunno if he did this on purpose to match his suicide or he just did it. I kinda liked it though
They both have dead eyes. it's on purpose
even through the not great quality audio recording here, lea michele's voice is magical
groff puts his entire body into this song and it's entrancing
Found out on tumblr that you can sing this song to the tune of On My Own from Les Mis and it would still sound good. (With some modifications, of course. But not much)
HOLY SHIT I JUST LOOKED AT THE LYRICS FOR BOTH AND I NEVER FUCKIN REALIZED HOW SIMILAR THEY ARE?? THANK YOU?

Without them, the world grows dark around you
And nothing is the same until you know that they have found you

Still your heart says their shadows bring the starlight
And everything you've ever been is still there in the dark night

Still you know they fill your heart and mind

When you say there's a way through this

They call you, as if you knew their longing
They whistle through the lonely wind, the long blue shadows falling

What's That Line?
All alone, but still I hear their yearning
Through the dark, the moon, alone there, burning
The stars, too, they tell of spring returning
And summer with another wind that no one yet has known
Though you know there's so much more to find
Another dream, another love you'll hold
Still you know to trust your own true mind
On your way, you are not alone
They call me, through all things
Nights falling, but somehow on I go
You watch me, just watch me
I'm calling, through longing
When the northern wind blows
The sorrows, your heart's known
I believe
We're still home, we're still home
Now they'll walk on my arm through the distant night
And I won't let them stray from my heart
Through the wind, through the dark, through the winter light
I will read all their dreams to the stars
I'll walk now with them
I'll call on their names
And I'll see their thoughts are known
Not gone, not gone
They walk with my heart, (not gone)
And I'll never let them go, (not gone)
I'll never let them go, (not gone)
I'll never let them go
You watch me, just watch me
I'm calling

Jon Groff couldnt be more perfect
