- NBA 2K25 reviewed by Nico Vergara on PlayStation 5, also available on Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The more things change, the more they stay the same, and that’s never been more true than with NBA 2K25. Although the core gameplay feels familiar (and it most likely always will), a handful of improvements such as Go-To Moves, Rhythm Shooting, and Shot Timing Profiles also make it more novel and challenging. I love that the Heart of a Dynasty storyline and the return of Streetball highlight a renewed focus on single-player experiences that, I hope, mean things will be even better next year. Don’t get me wrong; microtransactions are still as pervasive and frustrating as ever. But spending money doesn’t always feel as necessary this time, especially in MyTeam, thanks to the return of the Auction House. So, although NBA 2K25 isn’t on the level of Michael Jordan’s splashy return in 1995, it can at least compare to his late-career stint with the Washington Wizards; you know what you’re getting at this point, but it still has a few tricks up its sleeves that longtime fans like me can be pleasantly surprised by even as we grumble about long-standing issues. - เกม

Sports games should be released every two years with roster updates in between to give devs time to tap into the hardware and focus on improving gameplay.

There was a video of i believe the creator of the iphone 5 talking about how every year a new product comes out with tiny little tweaks in it to rise the price while comparing it to hand bags. How over 10,000 years handbags can still cost thousands of dollars because of little tweaks in quality. It’s sick how video game companies are adopting this business mindset
The old NBA 2K was great.
It was purely focused on gameplay and graphical improvements only.
Now it's microtransactions, microtransactions, microtransactions.
But, as long as there are fools who buy this game every year, we can't expect any fundamental improvement.

Oh yeah, the VMU went hard. I had the see-thru blue one and a few of the stock versions.
Also had a couple of the no screen 800 Blocks one because my friend and I would download "risqué" pictures using the built in 56K modem/web browser disc and set them as custom graffiti slots in Jet Set Radio (any downloaded .jpg file would recognize the image) and bomb Tokyo-to with our scandalous NSFW posters.

The sound of his voice is fine, but he has a lot of weird pauses that are also too long, and he talks weirdly slow.
Games like 2K and Madden should just be free downloadable updates until EA and 2K can figure out the direction for the next game and actually come up with something that’s new and great. But luckily for them, Madden and 2K’s fanbase are not very smart so they’re gonna complain every year just to end up buying it every year and put more money in these companies pockets while they continually deliver the same boring product each year lol 🤦♂️

@@typicalsloth2716 Baseball is the only sports game that you really can't do much from a gameplay perspective. But Football, Basketball, Soccer and Hockey can make improvements to capture their respective sport in video game form.
Maybe the tech isn't there yet but part of it is that developers/publishers aren't going all out by taking minor steps while at the same time taking steps backward.

@@BUPMY1if we're being honest 2K (in basketball and Wrestling) has locked down real life Animations, graphics and presentation and somehow improve on them year to year. When you make massive jumps for console generation, the overhauls will come but in between there likely isn't much they can do to make it look/feel/play any better than it is now.
2K players will continue to do their parts to support these MTX practices, so can't blame the devs for taking them to the cleaner every year.

Spending $70+ every year for the same game is awful. Wait every 2 to 3 years. Even if they change the previous games to make them harder to enjoy, it’s still NOT worth it to keep spending money.
Lies... This game is the same and the new shooting meter is ass. All 3 of them. These sports games need to be switched up badly. All of them! 2K9 and 2K11 still hold the test of time. Go play those instead!
Back when the games were just about basketball, they were way better and still hold up today.
Nostalgia is helluva drug.. the gameplay in 11 is dated as hell and feel clunky compared to modern games. 2k19 was a decent iteration as well.
Let's be real, there's very little devs can do right now drastically change the game without adding various game modes that most likely won't get any traction. They have a formula and it works, it's a solid basketball game that is the closest we have to simulation. For all its flaws and most of those are micro transactions... it's one of the best sports games to have a yearly release cycle.

I honestly feel like suing 2K. What 2k24 was compared to 23 was a joke, bro. I really want my money back. They need to add return policies for digital games. Now they are bringing back the auction house? after robbing us? Forcing you to buy things that came with the game in 2k23? MY MYTEAMS was amazing in 2k23 because you can skill your way to the items, auction with players and more. 2k24 was a downgrade and focused on making you pay and the biggest waste of my hard earned money ever. Will not support this company anymore.

We're constantly getting 7 quality games. No major issues, fun if it's the kind of game you like, not great, not genre defining, not a classic.

As a PC user, I'm getting my money's worth in this game given that last year's game was the PS4 version while this year is the PS5 version. There isn't the fatigue for MyNBA Eras for PC players since we never got the mode until this year and the graphical leap for PC is worthwhile. If you don't play online and you like basketball, this is a great game. If you play online and you like basketball, this is an exploitative game with server issues and microtransactions that make a $70 purchase still unplayable in MyCareer or MyTeam. If you don't like basketball, this game won't make you like it. This game is a 6 at best for Xbox and PlayStation gamers since it's way too similar to NBA 2k25 and a 7 for the PC since servers are a disaster imo.
It finnaly looks like real people playing basketball. Animation is so much better. In my opinion this is most important in sport games.
NGL, I feel like the Devs actually got it right this time. I agree with the "playing offline" comments. It would be nice to have the ability to choose Game Commentators and Team Coaches in Play Now mode.

Every year they get closer to mirroring the realism of the NBA which, unfortunately, makes the game more boring as the real NBA is a.snooze fest.
Couldn't pass this up at the price of $27.99. I want to make this very clear. This is the first NBA xbox game I have purchased and it was because of TWO players, Female CC22 and Male Wemby of the San Antonio Spurs. Just wanted to make sure people know I have no interest in athletes named James, Reece, Wilson, Carrington etc. I do also enjoy todays true GOATS The nuggets Jovic and the Warriors Steph Curry

Nba 2k25 (Next Gen) is more improved than nba 2k24 (next gen) but the game is still not yet worth or something else. Need challenge for Nba 2K to make modern 2k games really good.
2k just needs to clean house and hire people who actually know what they're doing , never thought the day would come when Madden would beat 2k. Even CFP 25 is better than 2k😅

2k is a dope offline experience, I mean, even online play now isn’t bad, same w myteam. It’s once u hop on Rec and play w randoms, u start to hate the game. Next thing ya know you’re deleting it and never playing it again. Either start punishing people that ruin the immersive gameplay or you’re going to lose a lot of actual fans of the 2k games. Despite a few bugs, 2k14 game engine is the best and with especially it's brilliant lighting. Sad that they moved on from it so quick. If they truly want to make a comeback, refer to that and improve with the new game engine.
