My dad was driving a 93 ford ranger with about the same HP (also a 2.3l 4 cylinder) up until 2018 in Arizona with no air conditioning. That was almost 18 summers i spent riding in that truck with no AC lol and we moved here from California in it too. We still have it in our garage and I'm trying to talk him into getting it fixed up (its been sitting for nearly 6 years so its obviously gonna need some work. It needed some work before then even) rather than getting rid of it because it had always been a very reliable vehicle. The Ford Rangers were such great trucks. They need to make a comeback like the Ford Broncos did IMHO.
Pound for pound, that generation of ranger was the toughest truck on the planet. You couldnt kill them. I had two of them, one was totalled in a major accident when I got t-boned, the other was stolen and burnt. I really miss those trucks.
Wow, I really thought it something else was going to happen this time… Ideas: 1. Rebuild engine and do performance upgrades (turn it into a sleeper) - Turbocharger (as someone else mentioned) or Supercharger 2. Do a road trip for fun to see what happens (and get MPG ratings?)
I had a Ford Taurus I bought for $500 with 200,000 mi on it. Spent $1,000 on it and traded it in 350,000 for a 2012 Challenger RT and got $500 for it. Good car.
Autovlog Great Video I think it's awesome that you put a 150 Shot of Nitrous in your 1994 Ford Ranger and I knew it wouldn't blow up because it's so reliable and I can't wait to see what your next plan is
Clean it up and give it to Sydney as her first vehicle. She should learn how to drive a manual anyways. Better yet, teach her how to drive a manual, that might blow it up. Lol
Those little 4 cyl rangers would run forever . I had the main pulley literally come off and the truck made it 20 miles to my mechanic . Run hot but made it , got a new pulley and ran perfectly fine again
The sad part is you never considered to give that truck some TLC,is been true hell end back and still runs,i would put that thing on the road ,engine overhal ,new paint, new wheels aso and you will have a fenomenal truck and you get to make a lot of content
I had a 97 ranger . That truck could not be stopped. It ran dry , no oil , didn't know how long but never made weird noises . I finally checked one day and the dipstick wasn't wet . Odometer was exempt. Didn't know the true mileage. It just ran and ran . The engine far outlasted the body .
I have a 94 Ranger 4.0. The thermostat failed and I drove it 80 miles wirhout coolant. It was in the evening. I made it home. New thermostat and coolant good to go. I put 180K miles on it since then.
You now need to test towing capability. With frame rust, it will likely pull apart, but that would be fun to see. Get a cheap trailer, add 1000 pounds at a time, and go. Even hit some nitrous while towing. Just make sure you do it somewhere that it can be left in pieces, because im sure the county wont be happy if on a well traveled road.
Just found yer channel, seems fun.. Ive just acquired a 06 ranger...not my fave, but i got one...i think with the 150 shot youd get past that max out feeling with bigger injectors...or, just a teed off line to add manually when "under the influence"Ive played with small super chargers and more fuel while under boost is the key for them, and timing, but theranger has a knock sensor so maybe just more fuel. im your newest subscriber. thanks!!
on the 150 shot, your motor is running too lean. That's why it's just sputtering when you are saying it's maxing it out. that's where it's just running too lean
Bottle pressure might have been too low without a bottle heater. A 150 shot should have really made that thing scream. Also, I'd be curious to see what it would do setup right, fresh fuel pump/in tank sock/inline fuel filter, colder copper plugs, new wires/cap/rotor/coil, bottle heater, window switch (3k-5.5K RPM) and premium fuel, and an actual WOT activation switch rather than the button on the shifter.
Those 80-90’s Ranger were tough little trucks. Weren’t fast or powerful but they ran forever. I had several of them and they just kept going and going. Tough little engines and trucks. I’m sure it’s still slow asf even with the 150 shot lol 😂
160,000 miles??? For a 94'?? That's awesome!! I got a freaking 2011 Tundra with slightly over 300,000 miles.🤦♂️ 17 years younger with double the miles. Insane!
1994 not 1894. Its got fuel injection not a carb. That 2.3 weak spot is the timing belt and nylon gears. If you replace them before failure, you got the proverbial bullet proof engine. Transmission is a different story. Add turbos, add bigger injectors,
50 shot seemed like it was doing pretty good hundred shot probably would’ve been maxed out because when you hit it with 150 it seems like it almost bogs like it’s too much fuel but cool video!
This is why I'm a ford guy through and through. never had a ford crap out on me. Only way I've lost a ford was being crushed by a tree. Gonna miss that 95 explorer, It was a piece of shit but it ran like a champ, everything that was wrong with it was comfort items not anything essential to running. It was my first car and I dont think i changed the oil on it one time (cause I was never really taught about that) but it lasted me a good few years with a lot of driving before a tree took its life over night. Also eventually, maybe for 1 mil you should do a subscriber giveaway of this truck lmao
what engine does that have? I know Rangers in the 90's came with the 3.0 Vulcan v6 which was also in the Taurus's. Those things you could not kill. The auto transmissions, just look at them wrong and they'd die.....but the engines...nearly indestructible.
Nastyness Oxide requires that everything be right and can be very unforgiving if it ain't. It's not a simple "bolt-on" at that level and you're lucky it didn't all "go boom".
@AutoVlog - Another awesome video! What happens when you add nitrous to a very low/small horsepower vehicle? Wow! Suggestion... is it possible to remove the rev limiter? Yea! Hahahahaha! O:-)
They just don't make 'em like they used to! Interesting video idea though, Mike. So, the tally is now, Ford - 8, Mike - 0. Keep trying Mike. Sure makes for fun content!
Seems like it was running way rich or lean on the spay.Get a pressure gauge for the bottle and a heater nitrous will hurt performance if not set up perfect bottle pressure should be 950 to 1100 when in use if not in that range will run too rich or lean witch will have poor results and 150hp is alot for that stock fuel pump to support also may want to have a smaller plug gap to prevent spark blowout.
It's not exactly hitting it's rev limiter. While the truck is old, it's not old enough to not have computer related things with it, especially the engine. I think what's happening is the truck is sensing that it is receiving too much power from the nos, and as a result it cuts power long before hitting the limiter despite what your asking for it to do.
The computer can't sense "too much power", it's just not getting enough fuel to make the power he's asking of it. Nitrous adds oxygen to the engine and that allows it to burn more fuel, but if you don't supply more fuel with that much nitrous, it will run way too lean. Nitrous itself won't burn, it's not flammable.
@@Cosminox54 It's 100% true, that's easily verifiable by looking up an MSDS sheet for nitrous oxide. The whole point of nitrous is to add more oxygen to the cylinders to support burning more fuel, but to make more power, additional fuel still has to be added either through separate injectors (a wet system) or through the stock injectors, which would require a tuned programmable ECU with a nitrous input so it knows when the system is active and can hold the injectors open longer. Of course either method would require a large enough fuel pump and lines to supply enough fuel, which he probably doesn't have.
Wanna blow it up with nitrous? There's a bigger chance if you dump nitrous in it for about 10 seconds before you start it. Properly wired in, the system would usually be wired through an oil pressure switch so it can't run with the engine off, but it doesn't look like yours was wired this way. Give it a "shot."
150...??? That was like little fire extinguishers directly to the spark!!!🤣Nice one though! I suggest to give it a try with vodka and 50 instead of 150,what do you think...?
BIG Turbo! That's what you should add to the engine.
True the turbo version was as fast as a 5.0
Whipple supercharger
Or put a 5.0 engine from a mustang
Ja, turbo. 🤣
@@chrism869thats boring
'The brakes went out. They were fixed....kinda' LOL! That's classic Mike right there!!!
Sell everything and keep the ranger, *ranger is eternal*

Some people: Ford = found on road dead
Danger Ranger: Nahhhhh
F*cked On Race Day
Found On Road Driving
Real saying is fix or repair daily 😂
Ford though
F*cked over rebuilt dodge lol
And the old mike is back. Great video, hoping to see more coming.

right! i was thinking that too. him going on a road trip and see the mpg after the hell it’s been through 😂
You dont need engine rebbuild. just add a turbo and go nuts
The most reliable vehicle you have ever owned...keep it and cherish it 😊

Built Ford tough, thats for sure. Btw was that a 150hp Dry shot???? If so you need to add more fuel somehow, it'll make tons more power.
I was thinking the same thing. It sounds like it's bogging badly from going so lean as soon as he hits the nitrous.
Autovlog Great Video I think it's awesome that you put a 150 Shot of Nitrous in your 1994 Ford Ranger and I knew it wouldn't blow up because it's so reliable and I can't wait to see what your next plan is
