    Denis Berkats - is very coherent and eloquent even at 5km altitude.

    What supplies the power for the facility? It would be an excellent site for using solar power with such clear skies.

    When did Brady actually got at ALMA ? It seems these videos about it trickled down slowly for years now... (not complaining, more amazed by the scheduling)

    I want to go there some day. will it be open for turists?

      +Benjamin P , yes it's open to tourists now. see : www.almaobservatory.org/en/visits/public-visits

      +Denis Barkats however you're unlikely to get up to the plateau by the looks of it!?

      +DeepSkyVideos you may not visit the antennas :(

      +Denis Barkats Superb job of presentation despite the altitude, Denis. It seems you're very good at it. More videos with you would be welcome.
      Brady, dust off your passport (if it gathers dust). Really dig into this ALMA. After all, it "is the largest and most expensive ground-based astronomical project, costing between US$1.4 and 1.5 billion." (I am surprised there is nothing more costly). It used to be a 3-way race, but I've decided DeepSkyVideos is my favourite of your channels.

      Thanks, i meant visiting the plateau but then again, i don't think i could handle 5k meters of height with no training.

    How do they get the data back from the remote antennas?

  • @chillsahoy2640

    O! (8th element on the periodic table).
    If they built a telescope at the very top of Everest, to look at a cricket match on Mars, that'd combine some of Brady's favourite things!

    The Atacama desert is such an alien place. I'd love to see it in person, but last time I was up in the mountains I got altitude sickness (and I was only at 1200m), so I'm not sure I'd be able to manage 5000m...

    • @ImAzraa
      @ImAzraa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ben Rowe 1200? Dude!
      We in Chile are usually *hard as nails* about altitude, but 1.2 shouldn't really be an issue for anyone. Maybe check your lungs or blood saturation capacity? I'm no expert, but that seems like grounds for serious doubt about a medical issue.

    • @ButzPunk
      @ButzPunk 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ImAzraa Thanks for your concern, but I'm 99% sure there's no underlying medical problem. I've had medical checkups before and after that which showed no problems.
      It was very minor at that altitude: just a headache, very mild nausea and a bit of fatigue. Bear in mind, I've lived my entire life pretty much at sea level, so while it might not sound like a high altitude to you, my body wasn't at all prepared for it.

      1.21 GigaWatts if they are looking back to the future ofcourse. Do you have any idea how much energy 1 MW is?

    why not build an observatory on the moon? it would be good practice for settling mars....if no one wants to stay on the moon make the telescope controllable from earth...

    The cameraman needs to concentrate on the subject, not the egotist that's yattering away.

      He's passionate about the subject, has an interest in Brady's videos and is explaining the subject. What about him exactly is egotistical ?
