@BigDBobo Not nearly as much depth in the crafting, narrative choices, character progression, or playstyle compared to elder scrolls. Great games, but they're very linear & you play as a defined character. They're more open world story games than rpgs. It's not comparable in terms of role playing.

Also I find it interesting how Delvin will say from the beginning of the quest line that he thinks the guild is cursed. "Something out there is piss drunk mad at us. I don't know who or what it is, but it's beyond just you and me." Is specifically what he says and the rest of the guild all thinks he's crazy for saying that. To answer your question as to why people are mad at Ulfric for the duel, it's because magic isn't allowed in them. Though the shouts can be seen as a bit of a grey area here, since it is an old Nord art.
@@Tragienie also another note is that Torygg was probably in his early 20's when Ulfric challenged him, Ulfric was a veteran of the great war and definitely didn't need to use the thuum to beat Torygg, he did it just to show that he could. iirc some of the npc's also say that Torygg looked up to Ulfric, he probably thought that Ulfric would make a show of defeating him but not actually kill him. Ulfric killed Torygg because he wanted to do something divisive that couldn't be ignored and would make people take sides.

I drove.... I drove my wagon, with three followers, and a DOG and the most aggressive horse you ever wanted to meet. I drove from RIFTEN, all the way to White Run, restocked and supplied there at my HOUSE. Packed up and headed to Irkngthand. Took a route right near Fellglow Keep. Wiped that out, and fulfilled a Librarians Quest from the Mages Guild Librarian in the process. Irkngthand is next. Gotta break camp climb over the ridge. Pretty sure there is a Dragon Lair up there and a Dragon Lord in a Chest and a WORD Wall. Fun times today are coming.
Seeing you carry around 2 pairs of heavy boots and 2 pairs of heavy gauntlets while dropping loot for weight is hilarious. They really should specify it’s a pair and ya don’t need two of’em. xD
All the years I've done that mission in Vanilla Skyrim original, those guards just mangled me. I could stealth and shoot all the guards but that Cpt kicked me down the road every time. My tactic was then to get breathingroom and RUN. I could DO that. Then I could stealth my way out of Markarth to complete the quest. I think "escaping" was actually a quest "objective". Nicely done.

For anyone who watches this later, or doesn't understand the Civil War: Stormcloaks are not inherently racist, and that is not why they are fighting. Their kingdom has been bled dry by the Empire, and they served the Empire only to get handed over to the Thalmor. The Empire has a history of abandoning its allies. Hammerfell is another country they left hanging. The White Gold Concordant was the truce that the Dominion and Empire agreed to, but the the Thalmor abuse this by spurning the Nords of Skyim to civil war. This was what the Thalmor wanted. They immediately outlawed Talos, which is the primary Nord god. They capture and torture Skyrim's citizens and without any input or assistance from the Empire, or the Jarls that support the Empire. They basically feel abandoned and have been betrayed numerous times. Ulfric, in particular was badly used, falsely promised to be allowed to worship Talos again if he helped win back Markarth from the Forsworn, and then imprisoned after he did because he wanted to worship Talos! He personally has been tortured by the Thalmor after fighting for years to defend the Empire. He is done with feeling like Skyrim is being used by an Empire who doesn't have Skyrim's back, and he is not entirely wrong. And that is why most of his army follows him. There are racists on BOTH sides; the Dark Elves, for example, enslaved the Argonians. It's not "Nords only like Nords" and that is not the reason they are fighting to free Skyrim from the Empire. It's more like they feel that "Nords can only trust Nords because everyone else has used and abused us". There are a couple of blatantly racist NPCs in Windhelm, and unfortunately, it seems like most people assume that is all Stormcloaks in their entirety are about.
The beauty of the civil war is that there are good arguments for both sides. But personally I think that a lot of Tullius's quotes that empire supporters use are pure copium and can't really hold up if you think about it for more than 2 seconds. "Now that we defeated Ulfric surely we are easily able to obliterate the Aldmeri Dominion with ease." 😂 If it was that easy why didn't you pull that little manouver while the majority of Nords we're still on your side?
@@simon6157 Well said and I agree! They didn't do it the first time, but they think that handing over yet another allied nation to the Aldmeri will somehow magically do the trick? They could not even stop the civil war without DB's help.
They're actually racist and the excuses for how they're not racist are the same excuses I have heard for people who defend real life racism. There's a lot of inaccurate information here which portrays Ulfric and the stormcloaks as ultimate victims. The empire did not hand over Skyrim or betray them. While the empire is not perfect, it's not some stereotypical "evil empire" like in Star Wars so it's wrong to portray it that way. They're not great but they didn't turn against people for the sake of it either. The White Gold Concordat was signed after the empire was able to recapture the capital city but their forces were exhausted and were unable to continue the fight. The stormcloaks believe in this mythology that the Dominion could've been defeated by going to Summerset Isles and invading it however if you have read the lore you would know this is not true and Summerset Isles has never been conquered for a reason and is very defensive. Even Talos couldn't conquer it and he had to use a giant Mach called Numidian to get them to surrender and the empire doesn't have one because it was destroyed a very long time ago. The empire signed a treaty to save more lives and unfortunately that included giving up southern Hammerfell and obviously redguards weren't happy about it and rejected the treaty and fought on for another five years and kept their land. They made their own treaty of peace and became independent. So it wasn't just them saying they hate Hammerfell and that they're turning on them. It was much more nuanced than that. You are purposefully leaving out the context. Now another thing you are claiming is the Thalmor just began spurning nords towards civil war but you defend Ulfric who wanted war as he started it. The Thalmor took advantage of the tensions Ulfric played a hand in. His actions were unknowingly aiding them. He knew by killing the king that it would mean war so you can't really blame anyone else for starting a war. Ulfric was tortured because he was captured and made into a thalmor informant which you failed to mention. He gives information on the imperial city but to be honest the Thalmor had already taken it by that time. However he was an informant. He stopped being an informant eventually as the Thalmor dossier on him says he has been unresponsive. What the Thalmor say in that dossier is that they want the war to continue and neither side to win because keeping them at war keeps the empire distracted. The Thalmor also say in the dossier that they provide indirect aid to the stormcloaks to keep them in the war. All this information is in the actual game so it's not so one sided as you've made it seem. You also forgot to mention why the Thalmor are capturing and torturing citizens. As this is a very biased defence of Ulfric you make him seem the victim in all this. When you purposely spread misinformation the other has to spend more time on debunking it. So let's put the context into things about what you said about Martkarth. Firstly Ulfric wasn't falsely promised, he was promised by Jarl Hrolfdir the father of Jarl Igmund that he would restore Talos worship in Martkarth (which was against the WGC) in exchange for retaking the city. Ulfric retakes the city and Talos worship is restored. You left out the part where they actually restored Talos worship which is what Ulfric wanted. Why did the empire agree though? The returning legion from the war was denied access to the city until the empire agreed to restore Talos worship. So Ulfric had blackmailed them because he was in the city and wouldn't allow them in until they accepted the worship of Talos which the empire did. However the empire thought they could get away with it and that the Thalmor wouldn't find out and guess what? The Thalmor found out. So the Thalmor saw that the empire wasn't enforcing the ban and decided the update the treaty to where they could now arrest people. This is why the Thalmor is allowed to kidnap and torture people. The empire originally didn't enforce the treaty and it was said that people had their own little shrines of Talos up until the Martkarth incident. But you have chosen to leave this information out to make Ulfric look innocent. Him forcing the empire to restore the worship of Talos is what led to the ban being strictly enforced. As I said the ban was barely enforced before then and people were not getting arrested until the Martkarth incident. From Alvor "It's from that treaty that ended the Great War, remember, when the Emperor was forced by the Thalmor to outlaw Talos worship. We didn't pay much attention to it when I was a boy - everyone still had their little shrine to Talos. But then Ulfric and his "Sons of Skyrim" started agitating about it, and sure enough the Emperor had to crack down. Dragging people off in the middle of the night... one of the main causes of this war, if you ask me." So the empire would arrest Ulfric and his men and he wasn't happy about that. Now the tensions got even bigger but that benefits the Thalmor as they want war to weaken the empire. Next is the downplaying of racism. This bothsidesism thing is a common argument people use when they want to claim something is equal to another. I don't think the empire is great on race, however they're not pushing racism. You can say there's racist views in the empire and that racists exist in all province but when you cheapen it down to that they're all equally racist, that's a complete lie. Stormcloaks want Skyrim to be for the nords and in your own words you say they don't trust any race so in one part you say Ulfric isn't racist but then do the both sides thing which contradicts what you originally said. Next dark elves owning slaves was a morrowind thing and Morrowind is no longer in the empire so that's a poor argument. Morrowind also outlawed slavery during the later 3rd era and Skyrim is set over 200 years later so that doesn't justify racism against elves. There could still be illegal slavery but it's illegal and so blaming an entire race is just flat out wrong. Not every dark elf was a slave owner and the ones in Skyrim are refugees. You missed that part out and tried to justify racism by calling them all slave owners. The argonians are also not allowed in cities and they're they're the ones who were usually enslaved but Ulfric doesn't care for them, so it's not helping your argument that he is not racist. You try to reduce racism to just two guys but the racism is systematic. You obviously are not very familiar with what racism is and haven't read any books on racism by minorities. This is why the arguments I am seeing here are exactly the same as ones made in real life to deny racism that a person like myself faces. I have been told by some people that I have never experienced racism despite experiencing actual racism and seeing it at such a young age so I don't accept people who are willing to make excuses. Whataboutism and bothsidesism are poor arguments. We even see in the game that racism is common and the Thalmor are also racist and want some sort of elven supremacy. Thongvor Silver-Blood literally says he is going to make forsworn his slaves by petitioning Ulfric so he can get them to mine silver. This is if you make Thongvor Jarl of Martkarth by siding with stormcloaks. So the discrimination isn't the same on both sides. Khajiit are discriminated against outside of their homeland and this is known. Stormcloaks have their own brand of racism, Thalmor have their own brand. Empire has its own and isn't anywhere as bad as the other two as the empire prefers to include all in its culture. The religion of the divines is an imperial thing spread to others. This is why bothsidesing a situation makes it seem as they're equal. When you have situations that can be worse. You left out Thalmor racism for some reason. Let's look at 1930's Germany, if someone pointed out it was racist and another said "but Britain is racist too so both are equal" they would be wrong. Germany was far worse, the British empire was also racist, as was french empire, USA, Soviet Union, Fascist Italy, Japan. But they weren't all even in how they treated people. All racism is bad but it's much more on a spectrum. As with Elder Scrolls racism isn't a new thing to the games. However downplaying racism in stormcloaks as if it's just the regular type is very ignorant.
The empire was never perfect and empires can never be perfect because they're well... empires. Empires tend to rule over lands other people live in through conquest. Ulfric wants to be high king and is power hungry and we know this and other characters admit this as well. I am not talking about pro empire characters but his own supporters too. What we also find out in the game is that High King Torygg liked Ulfric and agreed with him on independence but the difference was Torygg wasn't willing to tear Skyrim apart by doing this. Ulfric was jealous and he knew that he had more to gain by challenging him as Torygg not accepting would mean weakness and by accepting he would lose as he couldn't win with someone using a shout. Now to the supporters we see that Eorlund Grey-Mane says that nothing has changed and that both like to tell you what to do but he prefers having a nord telling you what to do. Jarl Laila Law-Giver says "Between you and I, I think his motivations are a bit more slef-serving. He uses this holy war as leverage in order to peruse the throne. If he were to be crowned high king. I'm not so certain it will be the golden age his followers expect." Another supporter Dengeir who has this to say if he becomes Jarl of Falkreath by siding with the stormcloaks. "I know Ulfric Stormcloak's selfish and power-hungry, but he's the devil I know. Does that put it plain enough for you?" The game isn't putting this dialogue in for no reason so to act as if Ulfric is some nice guy or good guy is false unless you are like Jarl Skald who has his head so far up Ulfric's ass. The characters supporting him know he is power hungry and is taking advantage of the treaty to benefit himself. He is making a cult of personality for himself as well as it's all about him. Ulfric is a political player and he knows how to win people over and has charisma by making great speeches. After the civil war he smartly turns down accepting the crown even though he knows he will be king. He says he will wait for the moot to decide but the moot has all his jarls who support him. As in the end of the civil war we see him and Galmar talk. Ulfric: "How'd I do?" Galmar: "Eh, not so bad. Nice touch about the High King." Ulfric: "Thank you, I thought so, too." Galmar: "It's a foregone conclusion, you know." Ulfric: "Oh, I know." So we see he is very aware of the game he is playing. Foregone conclusion as he has already become king. If you ask him if he is called High King he says this "No, not yet. We'll wait for the Moot to name me High King. It'll be better for all that way. But, that doesn't mean I won't start acting like it". I also found it interesting that the Dragonborn can choose to tell him to keep them out of his speech. I questioned why this option would even be there and it's because Bethesda is showing he is not a good guy. Too many of you don't get that. Falk Firebeard is smart enough to understand what Ulfric is up to as asking him why Elisif was spared gives this dialogue. "Because killing her would yield no political advantage. By leaving Elisif alive, Ulfric completes the separation of the Empire and Skyrim. With Ulfric's troops here, Elisif will be forced to support his bid for High King. He secures the position and appears above reproach. What's more, Ulfric's refusal to execute his slain enemy's wife will be portrayed as the ultimate act of compassion. Hmph. It's genius, really." He is also aware that jarls have little choice. "Well... By rights, she had a legitimate claim as High Queen of Skyrim. But now Skyrim is at Ulfric's mercy. The moot will meet and choose Ulfric as High King. With his troops in most of the cities, they have little choice." So the version of Ulfric you gave is not the real Ulfric. You completely whitewashed him and his faction. Just because the empire is not great, doesn't make Ulfric great. Everyone is well aware of the empires flaws. Ulfric was written to be a flawed character. There are many characters in the game who point this out. We do have characters like Skald who worship him and you seem to think the same as Skald from this post. If you look at history there was a country that had a treaty imposed on it after a great war and one leader of a movement used that treaty to claim why the country was betrayed and that they could've won the war if not for traitors. He would gain power and persecute many people years after gaining power. Similar rhetoric is used in Skyrim. Saying it has been handed over is such a lie. As I explained above already that these things with Thalmor dragging people away didn't just happen in a bubble. The empire doesn't want Talos worship banned either. They're biding time for the next war. Many imperials also worship Talos. Funny thing about stormcloak ending is it shows it wasn't just about independence but they want to go to war with the Thalmor. If you have looke day tamriel. Skyrim is so far away so invading Summerset Isles is going to end badly for them. They needed indirect aid from Thalmor to stay in the civil war after all. Another thing is that Nord is not the same thing as stormcloaks as not all nords are stormcloaks. Some still support the empire and many fight for the legion still. We see in the game that not all krds think the same. Some wanted the fighting to end. Another game The Witcher 3 handled racism better. We see this empire who are very cruel and harsh in their punishments compared to the one in elder scrolls but they are more tolerant towards non humans. While northern realms fight for independence they are not very tolerant of non humans and constantly persecute them. We see one town where this dwarf feels better about the nilfgaardians as the northerners treated him badly while they are now upset about living under new laws. The Witcher just had better writing to portray how things were and I haven't seen anyone bothsidesing things for that game.

One interesting thing I realized while playing it again is that you can actually meet Cicero while he is traveling with the Night Mother's coffin, if you don't start the dark brotherhood quest line and go north of Whiterun you'll find him in a farm where you can either help him or send him to jail. Crazy how after sooo many hours and playthroughs this game still has content I've never seen

It actually IS possible to kill Astrid in the shack. Doing so locks you out of the Dark Brotherhood quests, but gives you a unique quest to destroy the Dark Brotherhood.
@@Tragienie Yep, it was my character's reaction in my first playthrough. She was furious about the kidnapping. "You won't leave this room until someone dies", Astrid said. Which means she must have the key, right? I was pleased that the developers had made this a possible outcome.
Nothing will ever give me such conflicting emotions as hearing you read The Lusty Argonian Maid volume-1 in my earbud while my boss was berating me. Took every fiber of my being to not smile or laugh. You almost cost me my job and it would've been 100% worth it. They are robots of a very unique configuration. I haven't see that kind of wheeled undercarriage on any robot anywhere. You DO see on office chairs! It allows these steam powered robots to climb over obstacles, and they can move FAST. They are made of solid Dwemmer Metal. They are HEAVY and can't be blown over with a shout. And they can take a BEATING. Think of it as an A.I. Driven light TANK
I have clocked about 3k hours in Skyrim since 2011, and now at work (a personal assistant for a 15 year old kid with autism) the guy I work with bought the game and is playing it for the first time. I just sit and watch him discover everything as brand new, and it's such a blast.

Tragie I know this video is old and you may have seen this by now but there is a mod called Skyrim Together that's up to 16 players together on Skyrim, it's a little buggy but it continues to get better with time and my friends and I have had a great time with it! There is even a modpack for it if you're looking for something more than the vanilla experience.
dude watching you play through this makes me nostalgic about when I first started playing oblivion (previous TES game before Skyrim) if you can be bothered, look into some lore videos, Camelworks, Fudgemuppet, Shoddycast, Imperial Knowledge - there's a bunch of TES Lore channels, really makes the game and the world (Nirn) feel more alive - it's not for everyone to go balls deep into stuff like that, but if you can be bothered with it I highly recommend, changes the way you see the game.
1:58:21 a similar bug happens in oblivion near Lleyawiin... a dead guard can be seen standing near the guardhouse outside the walls. If you talk to him he says nothing and his eyes are creepy af. idk how this bug came to be though... some semi-colon missing somewhere maybe...

I just LOVE watching you play for hours. Your play style is aggressive warrior but you get sidetracked so much that you've spent a ton of perks on things you don't use much, which makes fighting groups of enemies hard. But the way I enjoy playing as a pure mage would be as fun to watch as watching paint dry! Each to his own.
Fun mechanic of Skyrim: When you hit 100 level on any skill trees you can reset them and make them legendary. What does it mean you ask? Pros of Legendary Skills - No level cap - skills can be reset infinitely - Skill points are refunded upon making a skill legendary - Allows players to focus on a select few skills, rather than all of them Cons of Legendary Skills - Enforces a narrow playstyle without branching away from a handful of skills - Racial bonuses don't apply on reset, and Skill Books that have been read are unusable - Turning Lvl 100 skills back to Lvl 15 can make combat more difficult (e.g. Destruction or a melee skill like One-Handed)
The main issue with the civil war is that according to Nord law and tradition, trial by combat is perfectly legit. Regardless of Ulfric's reasons, his racism, or any other shortcomings, he is legally the High King of Skyrim. The Empire doesn't want to honor that, instead they want someone who will do what they want. Problem: The Empire lost a war with the Aldmeri Dominion (The High Elf Empire). Instead of being overthrown, the Empire made a peace treaty with the Dominion. They would forgo any Talos worship as part of the deal. That's where the Thalmor come in. The Thalmor are like the Inquisition. They kidnap, torture, and murder anyone suspected of Talos worship. The Nords are very big on Talos worship. Ulfric refuses to bow to the whims of the Aldmeri Dominion by proxy of the Empire and allow Thalmor to ravage his homeland and destroy his culture.

i sided with the storm cloaks because of the religious aspect. the empire, because they are puppets of the thalmor dominion, prohibit the worship of talos as the thalmor dont recognize him as a god. so for me despite some nords having prejudice i dont think its fair to tell an entire nation what they can or cant worship. going further you the dragonborn come to learn talos did indeed become a god. that and paired with empire cowardice always made them feel i dont know cheap. theres enough lore that proves most nords dont mind sharing spaces with other peoples.
After you do the Assassin Contract Astrid gives you a summon power(check powers next to shouts section) it's Lucien Lahance from Oblivions Dark brotherhood..the game before Skyrim, he tells you if you have him summoned hunting Cicero that Sithis doesn't want Cicero to die, it's hidden dialog for when you have the Spectral Assassin out and you're hunting Cicero

Yes you can use the ore. But you need the big round looking furnace to do that. That way you can make your own "ingots" from various combinations of ores. Alloys if you will. Like you need IRON ORE plus CORUNDUM ORE to make one steel ingot.

Love this series. Been binge watching the first, what is it, 16+ hours. (You're at Aventus' door as I write this) I do not understand why people care about keeping the Skeleton Key. I don't ever seem to run out of lockpicks and they don't weigh anything. To me, only Master locks are sIightly annoying - sometimes. I definitely prefer the reward from that quest. Have never invested any perks in that skill tree either.

To answer your question as to why people are mad at Ulfric for the duel, it's because magic isn't allowed in them. Though the shouts can be seen as a bit of a grey area here, since it is an old Nord art.

@@Tragienie also another note is that Torygg was probably in his early 20's when Ulfric challenged him, Ulfric was a veteran of the great war and definitely didn't need to use the thuum to beat Torygg, he did it just to show that he could. iirc some of the npc's also say that Torygg looked up to Ulfric, he probably thought that Ulfric would make a show of defeating him but not actually kill him. Ulfric killed Torygg because he wanted to do something divisive that couldn't be ignored and would make people take sides.
That is not true, it's not that magic is forbidden, they are mad because they didn't believe he challenged the king.

I drove my wagon, with three followers, and a DOG and the most aggressive horse you ever wanted to meet. I drove from RIFTEN, all the way to White Run, restocked and supplied there at my HOUSE. Packed up and headed to Irkngthand. Took a route right near Fellglow Keep. Wiped that out, and fulfilled a Librarians Quest from the Mages Guild Librarian in the process. Irkngthand is next.
Gotta break camp climb over the ridge. Pretty sure there is a Dragon Lair up there and a Dragon Lord in a Chest and a WORD Wall. Fun times today are coming.

All the years I've done that mission in Vanilla Skyrim original, those guards just mangled me. I could stealth and shoot all the guards but that Cpt kicked me down the road every time. My tactic was then to get breathingroom and RUN. I could DO that. Then I could stealth my way out of Markarth to complete the quest. I think "escaping" was actually a quest "objective".

For anyone who watches this later, or doesn't understand the Civil War: Stormcloaks are not inherently racist, and that is not why they are fighting. Their kingdom has been bled dry by the Empire, and they served the Empire only to get handed over to the Thalmor. The Empire has a history of abandoning its allies. Hammerfell is another country they left hanging. The White Gold Concordant was the truce that the Dominion and Empire agreed to, but the the Thalmor abuse this by spurning the Nords of Skyim to civil war. This was what the Thalmor wanted. They immediately outlawed Talos, which is the primary Nord god. They capture and torture Skyrim's citizens and without any input or assistance from the Empire, or the Jarls that support the Empire. They basically feel abandoned and have been betrayed numerous times. Ulfric, in particular was badly used, falsely promised to be allowed to worship Talos again if he helped win back Markarth from the Forsworn, and then imprisoned after he did because he wanted to worship Talos! He personally has been tortured by the Thalmor after fighting for years to defend the Empire. He is done with feeling like Skyrim is being used by an Empire who doesn't have Skyrim's back, and he is not entirely wrong. And that is why most of his army follows him. There are racists on BOTH sides; the Dark Elves, for example, enslaved the Argonians. It's not "Nords only like Nords" and that is not the reason they are fighting to free Skyrim from the Empire. It's more like they feel that "Nords can only trust Nords because everyone else has used and abused us". There are a couple of blatantly racist NPCs in Windhelm, and unfortunately, it seems like most people assume that is all Stormcloaks in their entirety are about.
The beauty of the civil war is that there are good arguments for both sides. But personally I think that a lot of Tullius's quotes that empire supporters use are pure copium and can't really hold up if you think about it for more than 2 seconds. "Now that we defeated Ulfric surely we are easily able to obliterate the Aldmeri Dominion with ease." 😂 If it was that easy why didn't you pull that little manouver while the majority of Nords we're still on your side?
@@simon6157 Well said and I agree! They didn't do it the first time, but they think that handing over yet another allied nation to the Aldmeri will somehow magically do the trick? They could not even stop the civil war without DB's help.
They're actually racist and the excuses for how they're not racist are the same excuses I have heard for people who defend real life racism.
There's a lot of inaccurate information here which portrays Ulfric and the stormcloaks as ultimate victims.
The empire did not hand over Skyrim or betray them. While the empire is not perfect, it's not some stereotypical "evil empire" like in Star Wars so it's wrong to portray it that way. They're not great but they didn't turn against people for the sake of it either.
The White Gold Concordat was signed after the empire was able to recapture the capital city but their forces were exhausted and were unable to continue the fight. The stormcloaks believe in this mythology that the Dominion could've been defeated by going to Summerset Isles and invading it however if you have read the lore you would know this is not true and Summerset Isles has never been conquered for a reason and is very defensive. Even Talos couldn't conquer it and he had to use a giant Mach called Numidian to get them to surrender and the empire doesn't have one because it was destroyed a very long time ago. The empire signed a treaty to save more lives and unfortunately that included giving up southern Hammerfell and obviously redguards weren't happy about it and rejected the treaty and fought on for another five years and kept their land. They made their own treaty of peace and became independent.
So it wasn't just them saying they hate Hammerfell and that they're turning on them. It was much more nuanced than that. You are purposefully leaving out the context.
Now another thing you are claiming is the Thalmor just began spurning nords towards civil war but you defend Ulfric who wanted war as he started it. The Thalmor took advantage of the tensions Ulfric played a hand in. His actions were unknowingly aiding them. He knew by killing the king that it would mean war so you can't really blame anyone else for starting a war.
Ulfric was tortured because he was captured and made into a thalmor informant which you failed to mention. He gives information on the imperial city but to be honest the Thalmor had already taken it by that time. However he was an informant. He stopped being an informant eventually as the Thalmor dossier on him says he has been unresponsive. What the Thalmor say in that dossier is that they want the war to continue and neither side to win because keeping them at war keeps the empire distracted. The Thalmor also say in the dossier that they provide indirect aid to the stormcloaks to keep them in the war. All this information is in the actual game so it's not so one sided as you've made it seem.
You also forgot to mention why the Thalmor are capturing and torturing citizens. As this is a very biased defence of Ulfric you make him seem the victim in all this. When you purposely spread misinformation the other has to spend more time on debunking it. So let's put the context into things about what you said about Martkarth. Firstly Ulfric wasn't falsely promised, he was promised by Jarl Hrolfdir the father of Jarl Igmund that he would restore Talos worship in Martkarth (which was against the WGC) in exchange for retaking the city. Ulfric retakes the city and Talos worship is restored. You left out the part where they actually restored Talos worship which is what Ulfric wanted. Why did the empire agree though? The returning legion from the war was denied access to the city until the empire agreed to restore Talos worship. So Ulfric had blackmailed them because he was in the city and wouldn't allow them in until they accepted the worship of Talos which the empire did.
However the empire thought they could get away with it and that the Thalmor wouldn't find out and guess what? The Thalmor found out.
So the Thalmor saw that the empire wasn't enforcing the ban and decided the update the treaty to where they could now arrest people. This is why the Thalmor is allowed to kidnap and torture people. The empire originally didn't enforce the treaty and it was said that people had their own little shrines of Talos up until the Martkarth incident. But you have chosen to leave this information out to make Ulfric look innocent. Him forcing the empire to restore the worship of Talos is what led to the ban being strictly enforced.
As I said the ban was barely enforced before then and people were not getting arrested until the Martkarth incident. From Alvor "It's from that treaty that ended the Great War, remember, when the Emperor was forced by the Thalmor to outlaw Talos worship. We didn't pay much attention to it when I was a boy - everyone still had their little shrine to Talos. But then Ulfric and his "Sons of Skyrim" started agitating about it, and sure enough the Emperor had to crack down. Dragging people off in the middle of the night... one of the main causes of this war, if you ask me."
So the empire would arrest Ulfric and his men and he wasn't happy about that. Now the tensions got even bigger but that benefits the Thalmor as they want war to weaken the empire.
Next is the downplaying of racism. This bothsidesism thing is a common argument people use when they want to claim something is equal to another. I don't think the empire is great on race, however they're not pushing racism. You can say there's racist views in the empire and that racists exist in all province but when you cheapen it down to that they're all equally racist, that's a complete lie. Stormcloaks want Skyrim to be for the nords and in your own words you say they don't trust any race so in one part you say Ulfric isn't racist but then do the both sides thing which contradicts what you originally said. Next dark elves owning slaves was a morrowind thing and Morrowind is no longer in the empire so that's a poor argument. Morrowind also outlawed slavery during the later 3rd era and Skyrim is set over 200 years later so that doesn't justify racism against elves. There could still be illegal slavery but it's illegal and so blaming an entire race is just flat out wrong. Not every dark elf was a slave owner and the ones in Skyrim are refugees. You missed that part out and tried to justify racism by calling them all slave owners. The argonians are also not allowed in cities and they're they're the ones who were usually enslaved but Ulfric doesn't care for them, so it's not helping your argument that he is not racist. You try to reduce racism to just two guys but the racism is systematic. You obviously are not very familiar with what racism is and haven't read any books on racism by minorities.
This is why the arguments I am seeing here are exactly the same as ones made in real life to deny racism that a person like myself faces. I have been told by some people that I have never experienced racism despite experiencing actual racism and seeing it at such a young age so I don't accept people who are willing to make excuses.
Whataboutism and bothsidesism are poor arguments. We even see in the game that racism is common and the Thalmor are also racist and want some sort of elven supremacy. Thongvor Silver-Blood literally says he is going to make forsworn his slaves by petitioning Ulfric so he can get them to mine silver. This is if you make Thongvor Jarl of Martkarth by siding with stormcloaks.
So the discrimination isn't the same on both sides. Khajiit are discriminated against outside of their homeland and this is known. Stormcloaks have their own brand of racism, Thalmor have their own brand. Empire has its own and isn't anywhere as bad as the other two as the empire prefers to include all in its culture. The religion of the divines is an imperial thing spread to others.
This is why bothsidesing a situation makes it seem as they're equal. When you have situations that can be worse.
You left out Thalmor racism for some reason.
Let's look at 1930's Germany, if someone pointed out it was racist and another said "but Britain is racist too so both are equal" they would be wrong. Germany was far worse, the British empire was also racist, as was french empire, USA, Soviet Union, Fascist Italy, Japan. But they weren't all even in how they treated people.
All racism is bad but it's much more on a spectrum. As with Elder Scrolls racism isn't a new thing to the games. However downplaying racism in stormcloaks as if it's just the regular type is very ignorant.
The empire was never perfect and empires can never be perfect because they're well... empires. Empires tend to rule over lands other people live in through conquest.
Ulfric wants to be high king and is power hungry and we know this and other characters admit this as well. I am not talking about pro empire characters but his own supporters too.
What we also find out in the game is that High King Torygg liked Ulfric and agreed with him on independence but the difference was Torygg wasn't willing to tear Skyrim apart by doing this. Ulfric was jealous and he knew that he had more to gain by challenging him as Torygg not accepting would mean weakness and by accepting he would lose as he couldn't win with someone using a shout.
Now to the supporters we see that Eorlund Grey-Mane says that nothing has changed and that both like to tell you what to do but he prefers having a nord telling you what to do.
Jarl Laila Law-Giver says "Between you and I, I think his motivations are a bit more slef-serving. He uses this holy war as leverage in order to peruse the throne. If he were to be crowned high king. I'm not so certain it will be the golden age his followers expect."
Another supporter Dengeir who has this to say if he becomes Jarl of Falkreath by siding with the stormcloaks. "I know Ulfric Stormcloak's selfish and power-hungry, but he's the devil I know. Does that put it plain enough for you?"
The game isn't putting this dialogue in for no reason so to act as if Ulfric is some nice guy or good guy is false unless you are like Jarl Skald who has his head so far up Ulfric's ass.
The characters supporting him know he is power hungry and is taking advantage of the treaty to benefit himself. He is making a cult of personality for himself as well as it's all about him.
Ulfric is a political player and he knows how to win people over and has charisma by making great speeches.
After the civil war he smartly turns down accepting the crown even though he knows he will be king.
He says he will wait for the moot to decide but the moot has all his jarls who support him. As in the end of the civil war we see him and Galmar talk.
Ulfric: "How'd I do?"
Galmar: "Eh, not so bad. Nice touch about the High King."
Ulfric: "Thank you, I thought so, too."
Galmar: "It's a foregone conclusion, you know."
Ulfric: "Oh, I know."

So the version of Ulfric you gave is not the real Ulfric. You completely whitewashed him and his faction. Just because the empire is not great, doesn't make Ulfric great. Everyone is well aware of the empires flaws.
Ulfric was written to be a flawed character. There are many characters in the game who point this out. We do have characters like Skald who worship him and you seem to think the same as Skald from this post.
If you look at history there was a country that had a treaty imposed on it after a great war and one leader of a movement used that treaty to claim why the country was betrayed and that they could've won the war if not for traitors. He would gain power and persecute many people years after gaining power.
Similar rhetoric is used in Skyrim. Saying it has been handed over is such a lie. As I explained above already that these things with Thalmor dragging people away didn't just happen in a bubble. The empire doesn't want Talos worship banned either. They're biding time for the next war. Many imperials also worship Talos.
Funny thing about stormcloak ending is it shows it wasn't just about independence but they want to go to war with the Thalmor. If you have looke day tamriel. Skyrim is so far away so invading Summerset Isles is going to end badly for them. They needed indirect aid from Thalmor to stay in the civil war after all.
Another thing is that Nord is not the same thing as stormcloaks as not all nords are stormcloaks. Some still support the empire and many fight for the legion still. We see in the game that not all krds think the same. Some wanted the fighting to end.
Another game The Witcher 3 handled racism better. We see this empire who are very cruel and harsh in their punishments compared to the one in elder scrolls but they are more tolerant towards non humans. While northern realms fight for independence they are not very tolerant of non humans and constantly persecute them. We see one town where this dwarf feels better about the nilfgaardians as the northerners treated him badly while they are now upset about living under new laws. The Witcher just had better writing to portray how things were and I haven't seen anyone bothsidesing things for that game.

One interesting thing I realized while playing it again is that you can actually meet Cicero while he is traveling with the Night Mother's coffin, if you don't start the dark brotherhood quest line and go north of Whiterun you'll find him in a farm where you can either help him or send him to jail. Crazy how after sooo many hours and playthroughs this game still has content I've never seen

It actually IS possible to kill Astrid in the shack. Doing so locks you out of the Dark Brotherhood quests, but gives you a unique quest to destroy the Dark Brotherhood.

Nothing will ever give me such conflicting emotions as hearing you read The Lusty Argonian Maid volume-1 in my earbud while my boss was berating me. They are robots of a very unique configuration. I haven't see that kind of wheeled undercarriage on any robot anywhere. You DO see on office chairs! It allows these steam powered robots to climb over obstacles, and they can move FAST.
They are made of solid Dwemmer Metal. They are HEAVY and can't be blown over with a shout. And they can take a BEATING. Think of it as an A.I. Driven light TANK
I have clocked about 3k hours in Skyrim since 2011, and now at work (a personal assistant for a 15 year old kid with autism) the guy I work with bought the game and is playing it for the first time. I just sit and watch him discover everything as brand new, and it's such a blast.

Tragie I know this video is old and you may have seen this by now but there is a mod called Skyrim Together that's up to 16 players together on Skyrim, it's a little buggy but it continues to get better with time and my friends and I have had a great time with it! There is even a modpack for it if you're looking for something more than the vanilla experience.
I may wait until it gets even better and better before I attempt it. I got a lot of content to create!
dude watching you play through this makes me nostalgic about when I first started playing oblivion (previous TES game before Skyrim) if you can be bothered, look into some lore videos, Camelworks, Fudgemuppet, Shoddycast, Imperial Knowledge - there's a bunch of TES Lore channels, really makes the game and the world (Nirn) feel more alive - it's not for everyone to go balls deep into stuff like that, but if you can be bothered with it I highly recommend, changes the way you see the game.

I just LOVE watching you play for hours. Your play style is aggressive warrior but you get sidetracked so much that you've spent a ton of perks on things you don't use much, which makes fighting groups of enemies hard. But the way I enjoy playing as a pure mage would be as fun to watch as watching paint dry! Each to his own.
Fun mechanic of Skyrim:
When you hit 100 level on any skill trees you can reset them and make them legendary.
What does it mean you ask?
Pros of Legendary Skills
- No level cap - skills can be reset infinitely
- Skill points are refunded upon making a skill legendary
- Allows players to focus on a select few skills, rather than all of them
Cons of Legendary Skills
- Enforces a narrow playstyle without branching away from a handful of skills
- Racial bonuses don't apply on reset, and Skill Books that have been read are unusable
- Turning Lvl 100 skills back to Lvl 15 can make combat more difficult (e.g. Destruction or a melee skill like One-Handed)
I'd never want to reset 1 handed 😭
The main issue with the civil war is that according to Nord law and tradition, trial by combat is perfectly legit. Regardless of Ulfric's reasons, his racism, or any other shortcomings, he is legally the High King of Skyrim. The Empire doesn't want to honor that, instead they want someone who will do what they want.
Problem: The Empire lost a war with the Aldmeri Dominion (The High Elf Empire). Instead of being overthrown, the Empire made a peace treaty with the Dominion. They would forgo any Talos worship as part of the deal. That's where the Thalmor come in. The Thalmor are like the Inquisition. They kidnap, torture, and murder anyone suspected of Talos worship. The Nords are very big on Talos worship. Ulfric refuses to bow to the whims of the Aldmeri Dominion by proxy of the Empire and allow Thalmor to ravage his homeland and destroy his culture.
Yeah I was iffy as to why he's being treated like that just because he went and learned ancient magic

60k hours? Lol. No, you don't. That is the equivalent of playing the game for 7 years straight without sleeping, eating, or doing anything besides playing the game. There are lists that keep track of that shit and the number of people with that many hours can be counted on one hand, with missing fingers.
That is why it has difficulty levels. ALSO. SKyrim is designed so that if something is too tough you back out and make your critter stronger.

i sided with the storm cloaks because of the religious aspect. the empire, because they are puppets of the thalmor dominion, prohibit the worship of talos as the thalmor dont recognize him as a god. so for me despite some nords having prejudice i dont think its fair to tell an entire nation what they can or cant worship. going further you the dragonborn come to learn talos did indeed become a god. that and paired with empire cowardice always made them feel i dont know cheap. theres enough lore that proves most nords dont mind sharing spaces with other peoples.

After you do the Assassin Contract Astrid gives you a summon power(check powers next to shouts section) it's Lucien Lahance from Oblivions Dark brotherhood..the game before Skyrim, he tells you if you have him summoned hunting Cicero that Sithis doesn't want Cicero to die, it's hidden dialog for when you have the Spectral Assassin out and you're hunting Cicero

Yes you can use the ore. But you need the big round looking furnace to do that. That way you can make your own "ingots" from various combinations of ores. Alloys if you will. Like you need IRON ORE plus CORUNDUM ORE to make one steel ingot.

I do not understand why people care about keeping the Skeleton Key. I don't ever seem to run out of lockpicks and they don't weigh anything. To me, only Master locks are sIightly annoying - sometimes. I definitely prefer the reward from that quest. Have never invested any perks in that skill tree either.
Yeah it made lock picking boring for me honestly but this is why it's very important to play how YOU want to play 🥰
