Yeah I’m shocked at all the red flag producers I have learned about from health mentors in the breed and how many people are breeding them. I almost wonder if it is too late to stop it and now we just have to wait for the gene identification?
@@Dogdayshomestead I think if people owned up to the potential of their dog producing epileptic puppies, they would pull them from their breeding program and it could get better. I do however think that a lot of breeders are in denial, and also because there isn't a clear test for it yet so they continue to breed them because they can't really "prove" it at this point.

I take my hat off to you and your program because I know that A LOT of so called REPUTABLE BREEDERS would have kept going with the same stock and dealt with the consequences later. I don't think that you were in over head like that 1 commenter said. I think that you were brave enough to start somewhere like every breeder before you did. Thank you so much for the comment. These help me to keep going. We all start at the bottom somewhere along the lines. I never had animal loving parents or family mentors to teach me like many others so I’m really starting from the beginning but have always loved animals. I’ve gained respect from many in the breed community that I look up to and I would rather be honest. In the meantime I’m getting lots of great content out in the CCAA newsletter and learning so much!!! With a little more confidence hopefully the comments will not bother me at all.
I commend you on your decision. I have been researching this breed as a potential target protection dog in a few years and I am SHOCKED at the level of deception and health issues involved with the Cane Corso. Definitely the worst for breed transparency i know of.
@@Dogdayshomestead I have several years to research my choice so perhaps the situation will improve by then. I very much respect what you and some others are bringing to light on the breed so no fault of your own. Oh yeah it took a long time to catch my breath from this one. My heart aches for my pup owners but they are amazing. Going to raw and they still love their dog, fingers crossed the diet switch does the trick so they can enjoy their boy. He honestly is such a good temperament too so it really sucks.
Thank you for sharing.( Living in europe)Unfortainly we have already seen this. Male dogs are more likely to become epileptic than female ones, and this is directly the result of male hormones.
Oh boy, first I honestly hope that puppy is okay as well as all the puppies. You're doing the right thing though, things happen there is always a good side to everything sometimes it just takes time to find that good thing.
Don’t count it as the worst luck. I would consider it a blessing. That litter didn’t happen and as hard as it is, issues will probably stop here. The other breeders that look successful will deal with large numbers of epilepsy in the pups they sell and probably much worse
You are exactly right, and some breeder who know fine well.. will go on like nothing has happened and nothing is wrong and will even argue that it is not in our breed.
I am so sorry, seizures are so devastating. I am praying one day we can find out more on what dogs are carriers. Welcome to the corso family, a crazy passionate and political community but everyone loves the breed!
I just watched your video. There is another dog named Dante, the owner is,Michelle. She posts a lot of videos on TH-cam. She,bought Dante, from World Wide also. Obviously,World wide is breeding with epilepsy in her lines..Maybe this can help you get some answers
Your welcome... Her name is Michelle Brazil and she shares several videos tAlking about Dante and dealing with Epilepsy. He has been very sick and on a lot of medication . I just wAnted to share since Dante is 2 years old also and since you both purchased from Worldwide cane corso , they both might be from the same litter. Hopefully this can help..
Mine are not actually from worldwide. Mine are from local breeders here in Georgia. Yeah I only know of the Raw diet video and living with epilepsy video from Michelle but if there are more definitely let me know. Always good to learn from each other.
Sorry about the epilepsy. 🙁 Must have been an excruciating decision but perhaps it's best given the welfare of the dogs. 😊 I struggled with IBD inflammatory bowel disease with my GSD and they don't know if it's genetic or not. Per the breeder, he was the only one in the litter that had it. So who knows? It's very difficult. I also chose not to breed him even though he's healthy now and off all meds. Took me 3 years though to get him that way. 🤷
Hi Sarah it's awful news but don't make such drastic decisions do more research. The corso line needs to be researched more and just because your male and female produced this problem does not mean that you breed your female to another male and you will have the same issue. I believe these old lines way back have some type of red flag in some Gen. First speak to some very old breaders who have very good knowledge with the Italian lines and the American lines. I'm sure that like many other dog breeds lines must be studied so you know which ones not to mix so you don't have this problem. Don't jump the gun by spaying your dogs get the whole picture, don't let your emotions take control. Take care and I love your honesty.
I did talk to the people in the breed and they saw flags on both sides. They said I could find another stud for Phoenix but the one I was planning on using could create it again as he too had a flag or two. So I spayed Phoenix as she is already 4 and I am very picky on finding a stud. I have not spayed Chevy yet but my plan is to start over with some co-owns as there is so much to learn and not a lot is shared. You really need an experienced mentor or two in this breed. The most interesting thing is my lines had mostly old American but still produced. So interesting pedigrees to look at.
@@Dogdayshomestead So sorry again Sarah I too am new to the breed and have been learning as much possible about the lines, but I have run into lines that breeders have had pups w the issue and have breed out to other lines to clean their lines. this breed is very complicated since the data is not all there and im sure many secretes kept. I think this is a good thing. You were in way over your head. I commend you for the effort. You lacked the experience and understanding of the breed as well as dog behaviour in general. Thankfully you didn't breed anymore unhealthy dogs. Very clear Logan had terrible movement to begin with
