    The Ultimate Mercedes Benz W126 Review Part 1 - The Vanilla 560SEL Review, Walkaround, Tour, and Test Drive
    This one we have in part 1 of the video is a prime example of a 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SEL in long wheelbase, with a lot of options available on it. Stay tuned for part 2 to see two other armoured 560SELs, as well as an armoured 260SE.
    Make a child draw a car, and they draw a W123 Mercedes Benz E Class. Make a child draw the same car, but with larger pencils and crayons, and they end up drawing the simple, but elegant W126 Mercedes Benz S Class.
    First released in 1979, and sold until 1991 the W126 Mercedes Benz S Class was the longest produced Mercedes Benz S Class, and for good reason. If it a'int broke, don't fix it. (as well as the R&D time needed to develop the next generation legendary W140 Mercedes Benz S Class.) It featured safety features, and creature comforts that we may take for granted nowadays, but was surely an engineering marvel for its time such as ABS, traction control, front and rear crumple zones, seatbelt pre-tensioners, driver and passenger side airbag (for later models), as well as electrically operated front and rear seats plus electrically operated head restrains which are not even standard in most cars today.
    The W126 came in multiple forms: short wheelbase W126, long wheelbase V126, as well a a coupe version C126. It also came with multiple engine options ranging from the inline 6 engines such as the carbureted 280S M110 with 154hp, the M103 260SE, 300SE/300SEL with 169hp and 190hp respectively, all the way to the big V8 M116 based 420SE/420SEL, M117 500SE/500SEL, and 560SE/560SEL with as much as 300hp.

    I'm envious that your country gets the armoured version and also the 560s! Great review there Kyle!!
    The aftermarket hood lining does radiate heat but in reverse it reflects the heat back onto the engine and well, for the 560 I guess it should be much hotter than the other displacements... Love the rare green on green version which is literally extinct in today's world! Looking forward to part 2 of the armoured review.

    Another great review. Waiting for part 2. That car would be nice to use in a highway casual cruise. I noticed after watching old car reviews that older cars have better ground clearance, which I prefer. Getting scratches below is not something I like experiencing.

    • @KyleLiongCars
      @KyleLiongCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! I think the reason older cars have better ground clearance is that they were yet to use ridiculously large rims that looks off if the body is too high. They could easily make do before with thicker tires.
      Not all old cars are high though. If you saw my review on the SL280 R129, it is really low. Lower than even modern coupes.

    Talking about kids drawing cars, Kyle, I was a kid in the 1980s. There were plenty of W126s around the streets of Hong Kong where I grew up, and it was my dream car at the time. I've lost count of how many W126s I drew. Back then, I thought I was pretty good at drawing cars. Now, I don't know where all my drawings went. I still dream that one day I would own an S-class. I just haven't decided which series I want.

      Glad I was able to rekindle your childhood in a way. Having owned a couple of old Mercs, I would highly suggest you go for the slightly less electronic ones if it’s your first time. A W126 or W123 would do well

      @BomberFletch31 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KyleLiongCars Wow, thanks for the quick reply on an 8 month old video! For me personally, the W123 isn't for me. It's between the W116, V116, W126, V126 and V140 (I think the140 series onwards only really look proportionally correct with the long wheelbase).

    • @KyleLiongCars
      @KyleLiongCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BomberFletch31 Yep the W140s looked off. V140s are great! Have you tried driving the 300D W123s? I made a video on an extremely pristine one despite having high mileage. They have a different magic with them haha! Never thought I'd love one till I drove one.

    • @BomberFletch31
      @BomberFletch31 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KyleLiongCars I watched that video. But to me, the W123s aren't special. I haven't driven one, but even its styling doesn't draw me in to one, let alone seeing how basic some of these are. I associate Mercedes-Benz with luxury, and the W123 is more utilitarian than luxury.
      Aesthetically, I like the W116 a lot better, even though it's an older design. But again, I am probably biased, because my first experience with Mercedes-Benz was riding in the back seat of a W116 280S as a kid. Do you have any plans of testing a W116 at some point in the future?
