Il Makiage matches you and let’s you try before you buy for two weeks. I will tell you it’s affordable- EVERYONE should have their concealer- no settling, pilling, super coverage. There’s nothing I have ever found like it. And I’ve tried them all. It’s only online, but they are excellent at matching.

I use my glow screen, with my Loreal true match NUDE, mixed together on the back of my hand, then dot on, and pounce and bounce with my blender sponge, and a very light dusting of Cover Girl ageless blurring pressed powder. I'm 59+

@@tammywade3649you shouldn’t mix your sunscreen with anything else. You will get less and uneven protection and affect its ability to work the way it’s supposed to. You also most likely are using nowhere near enough sunscreen which should be around 1/4 teaspoon for your face to get the stated protection, give or take depending on the size of your face. Apply your sunscreen first, let it set, and if you need to dilute your foundation do it with something else.

I absolutely LOVE this channel! As a “mature” but young 68 year old, I’m always looking for makeup tips. I have the things you mentioned that make mature skin look older - age spots, dry patches and some redness. I already use the L’Oreal foundation but will be going to Sephora to get some of the other products you mentioned including the Supergoop sunscreen. Thanks for always looking out for us older ladies!

Funny. I just went to Sephora a couple weeks ago, to use up some points etc and ended up getting a small tube of Supergoop. I have used it in the past, but I think it was a sample or something. It was fantastic but full size was expensive so I decided against it. I've come around to realising it's worth the expense. I've also got the L'Oreal serum foundation, and I use the primer that goes with it; it's really nice! One thing I haven't tried is the Estee Lauder foundation, but so many people seem to swear by it, that I think I'll need to give it a try....!!!

@@johannaholmgren8088 I bought the Estée Lauder foundation (I currently wear the L’Oreal foundation that Gabi recommends). I wore the Estée Lauder yesterday and omg, it is the best! I applied it around 9 yesterday morning and wore it for over 12 hours and it still looked fantastic on my skin! No settling in lines, no oxidation, etc. I understand now why every one loves it!

Gabi, I totally agree with you, there is absolutely nothing the matter with trying to look nice. I feel so much better when I go somewhere and look nice. So many people just don't care how they look when they leave the house these days. Well quite frankly I never wanted to do something everyone else is doing, I am 68 yrs. old and I still like being noticed because I am making an EFFORT on my appearance. I may not feel that way in the future, but for right now I still do and I am going to keep watching your videos for these excellent tips. Thank you for being here.

A natural beauty co-worker said to me, " you know how your husband tells you every morning how beautiful you are?" I commented that my husband rarely tells me I'm beautiful. I believe making a little effort in our appearance and taking good care of ourselves (not necessarily a full face of makeup every day) is also a form of respect to other people. It also depends on the occasion, for example if I only have to go grab some groceries I will not spend as much time getting ready as if I had to go out for dinner, but still I try to avoid looking frumpy, sometimes it really does not take much. For a job interview, even on zoom, I like to put on a little makeup and look at least presentable and professional. It just means that you care enough. This obviously does not apply to people who have legitimate reasons to be unable to groom themselves (depression, disabilities or any other difficult circumstances) but most people are just lazy.

    • @johannaholmgren8088
      @johannaholmgren8088 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm 66 and of course our era was all about making an effort and not looking frumpy. We wouldn't be caught dead going out in public with hair curlers, slippers, and PJs. Proper undergarments were expected. I mean, we had hygiene classes in high school about how to dress, take care of our nails, do our hair, etc etc. These days, who knows what's being taught? It was considered self-respect and respect for the senses of others, who have to look at us. I mean, if someone wants to look like a schlub, that's their lookout, but then they shouldn't expect any respect!!

Hi, Gabi - I recently have been watching your videos. I enjoyed this format very much. I think what mature women mean by “trying too hard” is we don’t want to look like we are trying to look like someone half our age with makeup, clothes, hair; we want to enhance our look while feeling a best version of our maturing self. There’s confidence and beauty in that. ❤

Love this series and wish I had seen it before investing in the Dior Forever Matte foundation that other TH-camrs swore was great for mature skin and prevented creasing! Grrrr. The Cool Rosy shade actually has a yellow undertone, neither cool nor rosy! Your comment was brilliant … I keep running into friends (early 70s) who have grown out long, stringy hair, quit coloring it, and dress like little gray mice. It’s almost like they are trying to be invisible. Meanwhile, I have blonde hair with highlights and lowlights and gravitate towards Fuschia pinks, teal blues, etc. with white jeans for summer. I have thought “am I trying to hard”, then think “Nah, I love what I’m wearing”! I also love the incredibly gorgeous eyes on your client! Wow!! Can you recreate that look for us?

Hello! You are awesome, thank you for your advice. To answer your question, I’m 57 and have friends who are definitely “trying too hard”, what this means to me is that they are trying to go back in time and try to be 25 again rather than accept their beauty at their age and let it shine. They do makeup that is silly, terrribly long lashes, glitter, too much eye liner that ultimately backfires and makes them look desperate. Your advice is what they need. some how they believe if they repeat what worked at 25 it’ll succeed. Their role models are not skin appropriate. Trying to hard means not accepting the fact of your age- and bringing out the best but rather, trying to copy teenagers to look like them. thank soooo much for your tips!

Gabi, I really appreciate all your tips on mature skin makeup (and application) and the explanations behind them. I would love for you to continue the series!
One thing that I would personally find helpful is a video on all the different makeup brushes to use for the various applications. There are SO many shapes and textures out there and with varying associated costs. I honestly get overwhelmed trying to figure out which types I need and for what purpose. I also feel like there surely must be a particular brand or two that are reasonably priced that would work just as well as the higher priced ones. I just don’t know which that would be. So, a video on this would be very helpful ❤

Hmmm. Trying too hard…as a 68 year old woman, this phrase implies I could appear to be unaccepting of my age and am driven to look young. Nothing to do with effort really. We all want to be accepted and feel relevant EXACTLY as we are. Trying too hard also means (to me) the fear of not getting it right (looking overdone) and being judged for it. Unfortunately there’s still a lot of ageism out there. I applaud you Gabi for helping us navigate the complicated makeup and hair space. 🙏🏻 I don’t want to look young, I want to look my own, personal best now and as I continue the adventure.

Jame is such a beautiful and incredibly innovative woman. I love ItCosmetics. I have the CC Cream in my makeup kit too. The only thing about it that I don't love is how wet it is. It works fantastically well on very dry skin but if you have combination to oily skin, it can be a bit too wet after a few hours on the skin (in my opinion).

But ask any dermatologist, sunscreen are less effective when they are mix in the same tube, with cream. It's better to apply them separately. "LaRoche Posay" is the best one and is not greasy for the face (when you are in the city). If you are at the sea, they are offering a tinted formula for your face. Now, the best method is: you apply your serum first, your day cream and then, your sunscreen.

I have textured skin and the glow products high light those areas which I dislike. So I agree with you regarding lines. I would probably just use a satin product only in spots that I don’t have lines or texture. But those areas need to Matte for me.

I TRY everyday I go to work. And usually ONE of my days off. 😉
It's puzzling to me how others cannot try whatsoever. But that's "their thing". I would never go to work without makeup. I love the ritual, I love the skin prep, I love the subtle change of colors and shades I choose, I love the dynamic makeup can bring.
It makes me feel confident and pretty. For me. No one else.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
As a youthful looking 57 year old I am thankful all my years of sun loving did not create too much damage. Luckily, I was keen enough to start taking care of my skin as a very young person. It is second nature.
Funny about the mention of matte being an age adder. I use Benefit Porefessionals primer and Dior Forever Matte (1CR, cool rosy) and it looks flawless. Dewy (shiny) anything looks weird. Like, greasy. Even if I swap out into Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue foundation stick it's too greasy looking. Even with a light dusting of e.l.f. high definition powder in my t-zone. The greasy look and feel of dewy formulas just attract environmental dirt it seems. On days I wear dewy makeup I cannot wait to wash my face off.
I have grabbed many a sample at Sephora to try. Hands down Dior Forever Matte looks and performs the best. *I have normal to dry skin mostly, t-zone can act up now & again
I seriously do miss the days of powder foundation though. My go-tos were MAC (Studio Fix), Perse (mineral pressed), and Neutrogena (mineral loose, and pressed).
So quick, easy and flawlessly great looking!

Glad I found your channel! I'm 63 and have been experimenting with skincare and makeup lately trying to find what works best for me at this age. I like a more natural looking makeup and prefer to still be able to see my skin while hiding the sun damage I inflicted upon myself growing up in the 70's. I am currently using Colorscience and wondering what you think of this brand. The dermatologist recommended it for the sunscreen, I'm asking in regards to makeup.

Hi Gabi, I'm 58 and I was a licensed cosmetologist at 21. I have been fascinated by the art of color and shape through makeup and hair design since I was 10. I still do my makeup every day and try new things. I have occasionally said, "I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard." I don't mean that I have a problem looking like I'm TRYING to 'look nice', I mean that I don't want to look like an old lady pretending to be too young. I am proud of my years and want to claim them while still looking 'youthful' (vibrant and active), but I don't want to look rediculous or completely immature.

Hi Gabi!!! First, I have to say “You’re AMAZING!!” I love all the subjects you discuss and have tired. I also respect your reviews. You got me on the sunscreen Supergoop, Glow Screen. I do use a foundation practically everyday. ( Nars light reflecting, and Clinique (Even Better makeup evens and corrects). Both are nice. The Estée Lauder I did have but the color was a bit too warm… so I pitch it!!!! Ugh 😑…. Noe I’m not sure what color it was and also not sure what color to re order. I remember that it was a beautiful finish to it, but as I said looked kinda orange. I always wanted to be a hairdresser, but my dad said, “No, you’re going to college.” I missed out on my dream but I’m all about “Taking care of my hair and makeup.” To me, there’s no such thing as trying to hard. You have to take the time out to look as good as you can. (My opinion) If others judge, (they have…😂) you can’t let it bother you. I go on at 56 years of age changing my makeup as my skin changed too. I’m happy to say I enjoy ALL of your videos…. I’m a huge makeup and hair junkie… so I’ll tell ya I just bought that Tymo hairdryer you had mentioned. Ha ha!!! It’s really sweet as it’s light weight compared to my Elchim 3900 healthy ionic in pink. 🩷😁

at age 68 I still have areas of very oily skin on my face. The T-zone most especially. I use a modifying primer along with a matte foundation. Otherwise I look like an oil slick. There are many other ways to give your skin a glow, that don’t include using a glowy primer or a glowy foundation! Everyone’s skin is unique and different to them.

  • @kellyross4801

Sunscreen is NOT needed unless* you are in direct sunlight for more than 20 minutes daily. If you are inside ALL day, not by a window, it is unnecessary. I have finally found a sunscreen that doesn't break me out, the first ever, from Japan. 👍
I realize that many mature women have drier skin. But there are a few of us (Risa!) with oily skin. I don't want, need, or like, glowy moisturizing anything. There's a very fine line between "dewy" and "oil slick". 😂
I have a lot of trouble finding advice for my mature, textured, oily, sensitive skin. 😬
Effort is not a bad thing. Overdoing it, sticking with a dated look, not trying better products, can be a bad thing. EL DW is fabulous!!! For a drugstore full coverage option I like the Cover Girl Extreme Outlast with the orange/pink cap. 🎉
Thanks for all you do, Gabi❤

Great reminder that Trying is not a bad thing. I think this is linked because we're supposed to naturally look like we're 25 according to... everything... to be considered beautiful (considered at all really). Great reminder to unlearn. Now please go tell society that we're here and we're beautiful over 50 (60, 70, 80)! Meanwhile we'll be living it with help from your tips!💜 PS I admit I like slightly mattifying sunscreens. Anything like glow screen accentuates every pore, texture and wrinkle I have. I can add the glow I want through bronzer, blush, glow product. Then I don't have to add as much powder to combat the glow over all my "issues".

It's NOT Effort = Negative; "Trying too hard" (at least for me, crowding 70 years old) is the new way to say "mutton dressed as lamb." Too much makeup, makeup that is over-the-top for the occasion (a full glam beat for a casual bridge club meeting, for instance, instead of the opening performance of the symphony) makes an older woman look desperate. As though she is franticly clinging to fashions - including hair and makeup - that are too young for her. "Trying too hard" to deflect and distract, with inappropriate and (frequently) unflattering makeup. A lot of us - me included - lose confidence not only in our looks but in our artistry and skill. Techniques carefully honed over years suddenly stop working as well, or worse, look absolutely terrible. My color pallet has changed pretty significantly. I am a dark brunette (never went grey) but I've faded. My brows are the same color they always were but because they've thinned out, don't look as dark on the face. But restoring them to a youthful color is too harsh and not right, either. Textures that I used to love (subtle shimmer) suddenly highlight every tiny wrinkle and flaw. My vision is fading and I'm terrified of making myself look like a clown. On top of all that, trusted products don't work any more and I don't have the budget to experiment endlessly. Older women are invisible to cosmetic companies. It's enough to discourage anyone! I'm not trying to be 30 years old anymore. I just want to be the best version of myself that I can be, and that's becoming increasingly difficult. So, "Not trying too hard" doesn't mean that I'm afraid of making the effort; it means I'm afraid of appearing in public in one of my many failed experiments!

    • @GlamGirlGabi

Linda thank you for leaving me with such an insightful comment. I haven't experienced this yet, obviously, but I have seen many women in my life struggle with the changes that come from aging and having to adapt to those changes. I guess what "gets to me" about that comment is the undertone that maturity means invisibility. When I go into a wedding and I start styling the mother or the grandmother, they always say "not too much dear. I am not the star here". I understand the sentiment but I don't agree. You ARE the star. As a mother or a grandmother, you created people, raised them and now are sending them into the world as a full functioning adult. You are AS MUCH the star as the bride and you don't have to be invisible because you are 60, 70, 80 or 90. In Eastern cultures, we celebrate aging and in Western culture we try to shun it. It makes me sad that as women age, we feel like we can't shine as brightly as we did when we were 25 when in fact, we are shining much brighter on the inside. I think it's incredible when a mature woman walks into the room with her high heels on, a beautiful outfit, a face full of well executed makeup and a killer blowout. SHINE as brightly as you want to shine.

And yes 🙌🏼 as other say, more affordable products will be better, I’ve just had to spend for the Estée Lauder foundation and made the choice only to use for special occasions and because it’s for my skin. Skin products are a must for me, I’ve noticed the difference on wrinkles and supple looking, I received a Christmas gift from my daughter 2 years ago working at a Spa- Med salon and saw so much difference on my skin that I’ve never experienced before , it’s from the brand Skinceuticals triple lipid restore, expensive product but beautiful results and last me a year and a half, just use it at night a pea size, also being careful at first just to use it once every 2 or 3 days until skin get use to it because skin can get irritated for the retinol .
But I can say loved how my skin started looking after 3-4 weeks , so supple and diminished wrinkles around my eyes, forehead and neck .

A comment below stated," I think what mature women mean by “trying too hard” is we don’t want to look like we are trying to look like someone half our age with makeup, clothes, hair; we want to enhance our look while feeling a best version of our maturing self. " That is what I mean when I think of the statement, "trying too hard". It's not a negative comment about putting any effort into ones appearance. It's about looking youthful at the age you currently are and not trying to be what you aren't. That to me shows confidence and not insecurity.
