The Leveller kind of reminds me of a both Terentateks and Ysalamiri. It also sounds like some out of Steven King's books (e.g. the true form of the clown in It) or some Lovecraftian monster since its presence can't be fully perceived, it causes intense fear which can kill its victim and Cavan Scott is a horror fan.
Im really interested in what they have in store for us. I hope they come up with something great that scares the Jedi. Loving the high republic so far its such a shame more people giving it a chance. There is some great stories building here. I thought the samething when I read how master Greatstrom was turned into that Star wars Rebels scene. Can't wait to find out if it's connected.
Aaaahhhh yes, when Lovecraft meets Star Wars... Is just pure... Art! And we have seen plenty of examples of lovecraftian horror in Star Wars lately: The Screaming Citadel, the first arc of the new Star Wars comic run (that former apprentice talks to Luke describing the Force as a nearly Cosmic Horror being, and then the inquisitor ghost forever in flames), the new Darth Vader comic run (that whole arc about Mustafar and Exogol was straight up Lovecraftian!), and many more examples are around... This makes me very excited to what we might see in the future!
Yes! I had the same exact thoughts! I hadn't been that traumatized by fictional characters since infinity war. It took me days to get over both endings
@@daniloa.ferreira8918 they certainly leave quite the impression, haha. At least the avengers had a happy ending for the most part. The high republic characters on the other hand... I'll feel lucky if any of them come out of it alive at this point
What do the Jedi fear? FEAR !! Someone who can draw out a Jedi's deepest, darkest, most terrifying, debilitating fear that all sentient being have, and have is used against you...mental and physically. And you can't call on the Force for help because it's someone using your connection to the Force to attack you.
I’m imagining the Great Levelor as a being that “eats” the Force. It has teeth and eyes, according to the description of its attack on Bell. It’s interesting that Loden became dust and Bell didn’t. Loden was debilitated during his torture directed by Marchion Ro. I wonder if something was done to him during that time that made him susceptible to becoming dust. I will also be watching for future descriptions of Bell’s “recovery” from the attack. Poor Bell! He had so much happen to him. I hope he comes out of it OK. Elzar’s vision at the end of LotJ contains clues about how the GL will affect the Order as a whole. Who knows? Maybe Yoda is on the way to the rescue, when he hitched a ride with Elder Tromark to the Kharvashark Ruins.
As long as its not circling down to be this eras Sith I am happy with whatever comes up for them. Cause Sith ”has been gone for a Millenia” so they can not be in the shadows of whatever threatning the Jedi in any given time. Johan.
Something that the high republic keeps surprising me with is how graphic it can be sometimes. They don’t do it super often but when they do it sure is shocking like I wasn’t expecting Bell to literally be impaled by a star ship hook within the first handful of chapters of the rising storm and I definitely wasn’t ready for the after math that this leveler thing did
A quick question for those that may know. Are the Drengir dealt with now? With Reath and Cohmac seemingly containing the main one in the comics, does that mean we won’t see them again?
If the High Republic were to reintroduce and do justice to Abeloth as either the leveler or its creator. I would start the series immediately. It always seemed strange to me their is canonically a son, daughter and father in the mortis gods, but no mother.
You missed the whole point of that arc then. It's a mirror of the saga, there is no mother because Padme died, and only three states of the Force exist.
The Leveler seems to be a sort of space Gorgon Medusa that turns Jedi and Sith into stone (in other words it petrifies them). I can't think of anything else to call it. 🤔
Bell is my second favorite character so far, I really hope he lives! Even if he loses his connection to the Force (a concept I think would be cool to explore) and has to rethink his life and existence...
So people think its bad without reading it lol I saw many people constantly hate it I was in a confusion about it Now thanks dude even Eckhart said it good
The High Republic is the best thing that happened to Star Wars in years! Also are Drengir gonna be done with by the end of Phase 1?! I assume Marchion is gonna be the big threat along with the Nihil but whats next! The Leveler seems unbeatable!
Thanks for the context. When I finished rising storm my reaction was that's it? What was everyone freaking out about? Finally a direct answer. Clearly I missed some things.
So I just Finished The Rising Storm and WHAT THE HELL IS THE LEVELLER AND WHAT DID IT DO TO LODEN ?????? Come on him and Bell had only reunited, Did the leveller steal his Midichlorines ?????? I don't know but The Rising Storm was so good. Better go and read out of the shadows next 😃😃😃😃
I recently finished The Rising Storm and I had a blast. Was I upset about the fate of Lodan? Yes, absolutely. But I still enjoyed the story and I can’t wait to see more.
If I may elaborate on this according to legends during this time period the reigning Sith master at the time opened a “hole in the force” which allowed the Jedi order to experience the full power of the dark side since the fall of darth bane. I hope these high republic authors will keep this in mind and draw upon that precept.
It makes me wonder if “Levelers” are related to Abaloth? How would the Son or the Daughter of the Celestials be able to contain or destroy these things? I have been a expanded universe of Star Wars and horror movies since I was a child. If Disney ever does anything with the license of Star Wars. How many people would go see a R rated Star Wars movie with the Blackwing Virus? Seen in both the books Red Harvest and Death Troopers? I would, (as long as Lucas stays far far away from it). Still, if there was no way to avoid his hands on things. Seeing Jar Jar Binks infected with that virus would be hilarious.
Cutting off a Jedi from the force is devastating to them. To quote Darth Traya, "Yes, and what are they without the Force? Take the greatest Jedi Knight, strip away the Force, and what remains? They rely on it, depend on it, more than they know. Watch as one tries to hold a blaster, as they try to hold a lightsaber, and you will see nothing more than a woman - or a man. A child."'
I'm glad that it seems that people have enjoyed this book, but man did I have a whole different experience with it. I haven't read race to crashpoint tower yet but so far a Test of Courage has been the only high republic book that's hooked me. All the constant perspective hopping of the other books has made everything feel so disjointed and incohesive, and I never really end up caring about any one character because we never spend enough time with their story before jumping to a completely different story. I was really hopeful for out of the shadows because Imri and Vernestra are such awesome characters but so far the same disparate style of story telling has fallen flat, for me at least. Which is a shame because I LOVE that star wars is doing the High Republic, I just wished I enjoyed reading the books more.
Do you think this leveler is related to darth malgus and what he might be upto in legacy of the sith, I know swtor isnt technically cannon but it seems like the path he is going down to break his chains he wants to break the force this being being the result of that possibly
Well we know the High republic Era of the jedi ends with the TV series, Acolyte. But what I wanna know is who destroys Starlight beacon.. why do the Jedi abandon Elphrona, Jeduh? And Ashla How many of them are killed in this Era to make them pull in. What happens to make Yoda the only grand Master, and why is the order restructured into what it becomes.
Maybe there are others who feed upon the Force. Something in the unknown regions, something that could create an echo across the galaxy. In it the death of the Force. Or maybe i like kotor 2 too much
Hey can someone (preferably Alex) tell me why in Out of the Shadows no one is talking about what happened to Bell and Loden and what Stellan saw?? pls answer me
Could the Leveler (in pieces?) still be in play in some form in the films? Could Palpatine have been using it to manipulate the Separatists, or even some on Naboo, to manipulate folks into a trade dispute? Could he have used it on Anakin to make him obsessively afraid of losing Shmi or Padme? Could it have been on Dagobah in the cave? Was it on Ahch-to in the vaginal cave or on the Death Star remains where Rey seeks the Wayfinder? Clone Wars, Rebels, and Resistance also had quasi-mystical moments where fear seemed to be weaponized. Seems like Fear (dark) vs Hope (light) is the essence of the Star WARS, so weaponized fear is exactly what “Jedi fear the most” and could’ve been the sort of thing that ultimately undid the Jedi and slowed their return and rise. Or maybe it’s historical existence is simply what inspires Sidious to use fear in his effort to finally get the Sith’s revenge? Either way, I really appreciate the High Republic’s use of this literal bogeyman weapon.
One you should remember what Master Yoda said about fear it leads to hate it leads to separating which are passed to the dark side too the high Republic is trash you know it and I know it it's chock full of identity top politics characters that have no business being in Star wars in the first place and a giant rock that's a navigator I just want you to click your little head and think about that for a minute high Republic is Catherine's Kennedy middle finger to true fans stop promoting her crap stop pushing her crap push real Star wars
Bruh. Can't let people have fun. Representation isn't a bad thing. Not just straight white people watch star wars. Star wars is for everyone. Children, adults, men, women, gay people, straight people. It's not just for one person. The prequels were political. The OT was political. If you don't like it, don't read it. Have fun not having fun.
That Malachor connection from Rebels is really interesting, I think you're onto something.
I'm loving the High Republic so far! It's just nice to get something brand new.

@@shamsham1229 Rising Storm so far but I've heard good things about Out of the Shadows. Tempest Runner was also good.
The same thing that scares everyone... Tentacle Monsters!

@@TheWhills The twilight apprentice episode when you see all the sith and jedi are dusf.

This whole initiative has been so great. It's becoming my favorite part of Star Wars. I love the fresh takes and fascinating characters.
It's also similar to what happened to the zeffo on dathomir, in fallen order. If you walked into the petrified zeffo, they fell to dust
Congrats you two on second and third place at Dragon Con!

I think it's going to be revealed that the Jedi are actually scared of themselves. That's why they become so restrictive
Here's what'd scare The Jedi;
The Tyranids making their way to the Star Wars Galaxy
It'd be pretty cool to see someone use the Litany Against Fear against it.
A quick question for those that may know. Are the Drengir dealt with now? With Reath and Cohmac seemingly containing the main one in the comics, does that mean we won’t see them again?
I'm betting that the great progenitor will be released in the next book Fallen Star or perhaps later on in the comic series
I'm sure we will. They can't casually leave the progenitor in stasis on Starlight and have it not bite them in the butt later on

I think each story has talked about their fears
What if the leveler is a space station that is capable of destroying planets
What scares a jedi? Not having the force anymore. Take the greatest Jedi Knight, take away their ability in force and what do you have left.
